Airforce Major Jill Metzger, stationed at Manas Air Base, was shopping in a Kyrgyzstan mall with friends when she disappeared.
From CNN:
(CNN) — A U.S. Air Force officer is missing after a trip to a shopping mall in Kyrgyzstan, a U.S. military statement said Wednesday.
Maj. Jill Metzger, with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing, was last seen shopping at the Zum Shopping Center with others from the Manas Air Base when she disappeared on Tuesday, the statement said.
“Major Metzger was last seen wearing a green sweater and blue jeans,” the statement said.
“She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is in excellent athletic condition.”
Military Web sites describe Metzger as a top-flight marathoner.
Both the Kyrgyz police and the US military are searching for her:
BISHKEK, September 6, 2006 (RFE/RL) — Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry and National Security Service say they have launched a joint operation to locate the U.S. air servicewoman who disappeared on September 5 in Bishkek.
The woman, who has been identified as Major Jill Metzger, is working at the U.S. Manas military air base, near Bishkek.
Manas air base public affairs officer Ann Carpenter told RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service that Metzger disappeared while shopping at Bishkek’s main department store (TsUM) with other U.S. base members.
“The [U.S.] 376th Air Expeditionary Wing base officials are working with the U.S. Embassy and local officials to locate the servicemember as soon as possible,” Carpenter added.
The U.S. Embassy in Bishkek has issued pictures of a blonde woman as part of the search operation.
Let’s hope she’s found quickly.
Update: Maj. Metzger was supposed to return home on Thursday and went to the mall to buy souvenirs for her family.
Update II: We’re thrilled that everyone here is having a great time commenting, but since we’re approaching 1400 comments, we would love it if everyone could continue the thread here.

Wow. I am confused. I stopped by to look for any updates on “Where is Jill Metzger” and all I saw were posts about “Deb G, Deb G, Deb G”. I minimized my browser (which is really easy to do, some of you should try it) and did a quick search on Google looking for anything that might reference: “Deb G went missing in Kyrgyzstan” or “Jill Metzger legally changes her name to Deb G”. Guess what? Nothing! I am sure you can understand why this is perplexing to me as the SUBJECT OF THIS BLOG IS “WHERE IS JILL METZGER”. Anyone wanting to obsess about Deb G should create your own blog! If you don’t want to read Deb’s posts, skip over them. The blogging concept is not rocket science. Whew. I need a glass o’ wine.
BTW–>Valleygurl: your pitiful attempt at trying to be clever was lost with your tragically limited understanding of the “valley girl” dialect. Dull people shouldn’t try to be witty.
Yup, I’m with Happy.
It’s almost sundown, so I gotta go.
I’ll look forward to some pithy posts by Monday, y’all!
Holy flipping flyrods! To the fans of DEB G.: you are making real idiots out of yourselves! Jealousy is OBVIOUS here girls. DEB G. is apparently and realistically the most intelligent women on this blog (happy is right with her though) and I see nothing in her posts which warrant the attacks she gets. However, I ADMIRE her for staying in here with obvious folks who are on the same level – you guys are really lame. You attack Deb at any level you can, however, stand up for Jill Metzger….duh duh and more duh……I also see that Deb G. does not really care what any of you say against her. Must be tough living in your rotten little worlds and heads to be so insecure that you post against a blogger…..The ONLY people on the blog looking really STUPID, DESPERATE AND PATHETIC are the ones blogging against her. Get over it folks, you will never be like her, don’t have the class she has nor the intelligence – you just don’t get it…..and valley gurl – what a terrible attempt at insulting someone – get a grip or a brain.
Happy and Maj. F: I’m with you! I enjoy Deb G.’s posts. She is not even here to blog back to these shitheads right now. JEALOUSY is written all over the idiots posting to her. She offers some awesome theories and I usually just lurk, but she is right on. Bunch of hypocrites – don’t say this or that about Jill, but do say this or that about Deb. JEALOUS, and they have nothing to offer here.
Deb G. ROCKS! Nuff’ said.
I usually lurk too, but all you MOFO’s posting shit to her, get a life and some class, maybe even some intelligence. Deb knows what the pathetic Jill Metzger has done to our country, to our military and to our civilian population. This whore lied to EVERYONE. Deb G. has the integrity to see it and the courage to write it.
Happy: Beer for you babe, you rock too!!
Any of you idiot shit for brains have a clue as to what might have happened to poor little Jill Metzger???????
Has there been any new news on Jill’s situation?
Quiet in here.
Over and outta here! Check back latta
As long as this board stays active/alive, any new news should spread rather quickly. Don’t know a soul who isn’t aware of what’s happened or curious as to when or if any official statements are going to be made. Needless to say it’s been an embarrassing skid mark on all of us. Stay the course and your eyes/ears open to anything new. Good on y’all.
Hi all…I am back!
I think the only potential update we could possibly get today/this weekend is whether or not Jill and hubby go on their honeymoorn. Think it was scheduled for Sep. 24th.
Any of you brilliant theorists still at work? Got any more articles from foreign papers to fill in the meat.
I have a feeling this board won’t ever be staisfied with this case. What is she goes on the honeymoon? Will that convince anyone, or is it just a coverup?
I say forge ahead. Don’t wait for the truth. Make that shit up and parade it around like the gospel. Well done lost souls.
Sick thought we got rid of you. The ho ain’t goin on her honeymoon cause you can’t have sex for 2 wks after an abortion.
Way to go on putting down foreign press! You are almost as good for our International Diplomacy as that slut metzger.
Trying to track down the earliest report of JM’s disapearance — this is what I found (filled 18 hours after she went missing):
Soldier of the US Army missing in Kyrgyzstan
06.09.2006 11:01 msk — 24.kg news agency
A girl, citizen of the US assigned to the Manas AF Base, is missing in Kyrgyzstan. Her name is not revealed “for reasons of security”, insiders say.
The girl disappeared from the Central Department Store in Bishkek on September 5. She was seen entering it at about 4 p.m. US Embassy officials claim that she disappeared at some point between 4.15 and 5.15 p.m.
“A girl of the Manas US AF Base personnel is missing. She wandered from a group of other servicemen shopping at the Central Department Store and hasn’t been seen anymore,” Manas US AF Base press center had local media outlets report.
The command of the 376th Air Wing pooled efforts with the US Embassy and local authorities to find the missing girl. Whoever possesses any information on her whereabouts is kindly asked to call the US Embassy (551-241, extension 4516) or Manas US AF Base (785-139).
The Interior Ministry, National Security Service, and Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of Bishkek are on a lookout for the missing US citizen.
Anybody want to make a call or two and see what news the embassy or base are willing to give?
06.09.2006 11:01 msk – That’s a Moscow time, lurker. Try to be more intelligent than that.
So that’ll be
06.09.2006 1:01 pm Bishkek time. Then, we are talking about 20-21 hours time lag here, not 18 hours. Add an additional time that Kyrgyz police was kept in dark by US airbase. It took a while for Kyrgyz police to convince US airbase to submit a case about missing woman. Without those official papers Kyrgyz police could not start search&rescue operation by Kyrgyz Law. It took another day or so to convince US side. So, missing Jill Metzger search operation was significantly delayed by US airbase. And to those who are crying foul about Kyrgyz Police covering their asses – WTF is that? Remember that Jill Metzger was found and rescued by Kyrgyz Police, put that into your records.
Soooo, all that made me suspicious. About the abortion thingie: I wasn’t the one who first theorized on this. Credit goes to Mr. Wizbang Poster aka Been there and Deb G. And I do not think that their instincts are failing them.
You know what, I’ll call in to NTS TV station, when I’ll be visiting Kyrgyzstan, buy off from them the tape with Issyk Ata Clinic Abortion Statement, translate that into English, and will be selling those records like Hot Cakes over the Internet. Yeehaw!!!
And to those with “I have known Jill for a long time. And she never farted once” agenda,
I would tell:
“This happens even to bishop.”
“You even made an entry in Wikipedia, citing a Theodore’s World discussion board and your own rumor! You obviously have an agenda, and are using unscrupulous methods to accomplish it.”
I am not affiliated with Wikipedia, but I would love to learn how to make an entries there.
As far as I know, those entries were made by someone from Canada.
Postings in Theodore’s World discussion board are mine.
‘Cause I believe in freedom of speech.
OK, msk… so I might be off by 2 hours. Close enough I think — I was just trying to get an approximate timeline (she went missing between 4 & 5pm and the story got out around noon the next day). There was also a report posted that same day (the 6th) that a press conference was held, which is apparently when her name first “got out”. I won’t argue the delays before “those official papers” allowed the police search to start (I don’t have confirming data yet). No reason to doubt Krygyz police getting there first when she was found, although one report said she was found “stumbling around in the street after a tip” whereas another had her at the home where she had knocked.
I have reason to doubt your supposed ignorance of wikipedia, but I would fight for your right to say/post what you want.
What’s the word at Moody? Surely someone in the greater Valdosta area has either seen her or knows if she went to Jamaca-mon.
Oh come on, “Deb G”…give it a rest. Go back and read your posts and see if the word “asinine” doesn’t come to mind. All the little games you play with your different posting names is pathetic…not to mention you write like a 7th grader. You’re incredibly dishonest and deceptive, which I obviously don’t need to tell you because you already know that. But do you know how transparent you are? I doubt it. Like you, I’m not buying Jill Metzger’s story, but I don’t think it’s necessary to be an immature jerk about it.
Hey Dorothy, I think we can all settle this like adults Mrs. Poopy-pants.
Dorothy: Shame you are an incredibly ignorant and JEALOUS person for writing what you just did not to mention pretty darn DUMB. Not that I have ANY reason to explain anything to you, but to prove your ignoramous: Let’s see here, I left from work yesterday somewhere right around 2:30, met with some friends, drove to Wilmington (no computer access in vehicle, sorry and not desperate enough to take my laptop with me), had a GREAT dinner, got up early to go diving (saw the German submarine off the coast of NC – are you familiar with it Dorothy, no did not think so – and even a few barracudas and some other goodies (took us a while though to get going as our original charter cancelled our trip due to weather and underwater currents), and low and behold just got home and came on here to see any new theories or news and I come on here to find YOU posting to me – IMAGINE THAT. So, for your little tiny record, I have not posted under any of the above names from yesterday except well, Deb G. so it is with great pleasure that I can say you just made a FOOL out of yourself for ASSUMING, SPECULATING, THEORIZING without ANY known facts that I am posting under any different name and for another part of your record, I actually email a few of the girls and even some of the guys now who have come into this room and we think you are a complete idiot. Hard to believe that there are people who come on her and lurk here who like me isn’t it?????? well, seeing how NOONE has any reason not to because I am only here to learn anything about an AF Officer who lied to her country and have some fun, unlike YOU who comes in here due to your insane jealousy, need for control and lack of self esteem/confidence and need to bash while sitting behind a computer because you suffer from some inside form of “not liking yourself”, and for your other tiny little record, only 7th graders (and in between there) write nasty posts regarding a blogger – kind of like giggling and wanting to beat up on the smarter kids in grade school – remember that Dorothy?? Thought so, because you are right back there…LOL pathetic little mind you have. Only transparent people on here are the ones who believe Jill Metzger did NOTHING wrong (and the ones who post against bloggers). I don’t have to ask you anymore why you would post against a blogger and bash someone because I know the answer “HATE AND JEALOUSY” LOLOLOL now, DOROTHY, go back to the Wizard of Oz and find toto, the little puppy needs his wicked mommy…
Buster: LMAO
The whole issue of attacking posters is getting a little old. If any of these people were shedding any new nuggets of info contrary to those posted here it’s one thing; but these goobs just don’t seem to have anything better to do. There have to be people out there that know something, just wish someone would talk. No worries Deb, there are plenty of people here who’ve got your 6 covered.
Buster: Thanks, no worries here. I have to laugh though, these “goobs” (I like that word) are now going to think I am posting as you (Buster) too. LOLOL – yup getting old…I keep coming back here looking for any answers. I am certainl this is ticking off many military folks and taxpaying civilians too. A huge announcement of a kidnapped AF Officer and now nothing, no explanation. I can’t help but wonder if the AF truly did not know anything and are piecing it together….hopefully, soon enough, we will be told something – even if they cover for a possible abortion theory, at least say SOMETHING…
I doubt this is simple inquiry that can be fast tracked. I doubt the Air Force will make any news release until October at the earliest.
The way I figure is 30-45 for inquiry into all the facts and truths and another 20 days minimium for all the lawyers to scrub to ensure all the ‘i’s are dotted and ‘t’s are crossed in any press release.
Hi all,
Some more clues from following web site:
http://www.tazar.kg/news.php?i=1830
***********
Translation:
During additional checks of security camera records, there was a man, approx. 35 years old, with baldish looking hair, standing near Jill Metzger. The same man was waiting for Jill Metzger, around 16:23pm local time, near escalator on the ground floor. He was also standing near Jill Metzger, when she went buying lipstick.
Detectives of Kyrgyz police are not making any statements about that, but are hinting at some interesting everyday life situation, that will be kept confident.
***********
Not really much. Oh, and, for Lurker, who is reconstructing timeline of events:
http://www.24.kg/community/2006/09/08/6657.html
“При проведении оперативно-розыскных мероприятий стало известно, что Джил Мецгер, зайдя в ЦУМ в 16.15 вместе с сослуживицей, сержантом Браунс и поднявшись на второй этаж, разошлись в разные стороны универмага в 16.18. Это подтверждает изъятая у службы безопасности ЦУМа видеозапись.”
After some reconstruction of events, it became known, that Jill Metzger entered TSUM shopping mall around 16.15 (4.15pm Bishkek time) with sergeant Browns, and after going to the first floor, they were separated around 16.18 (4.18pm Bishkek time) This is confirmed by checking security camera records.
“That’s why I don’t believe you. I think you are lying and have made up that rumor, which you are spreading with single-minded determination and zeal. You even made an entry in Wikipedia, citing a Theodore’s World discussion board and your own rumor! You obviously have an agenda, and are using unscrupulous methods to accomplish it.
Though you have successfully had some people on this blog believe your rumor – it doesn’t wash. The most rudimentary examination of your claims show them to be unfounded and unproven. There has been NO MENTION in any online Kyrgyz media – NONE – of such a rumor.
Maybe this is how they do things in Kyrgyz, where the dumb and uneducated (like some on this blog) are made easily malleable by rumor-mongering. The peasants believe you, Kuba – aren’t you the smart one?
Kuba, quit playing seedy games with the life and reputation of a woman you’ve never met.
And that goes for the rest of you, too. It’s sad and pathetic.
BTW, lurker, you are 100% correct about a few highly creative posters on this board – just don’t blow their cover, eh? 😉 Idiots abound, as you’ve plainly seen.
Posted by: another lurker”
And my answer is:
Someone cross posted stuff in the Wikipedia, made it look like that was done by me, and, took it out after short while, hoping to compromise me. Interesting situation.
“Maybe this is how they do things in Kyrgyz”
I do not know, looks like I am on the right track, and someone is, well, obsessed with covering up the lies Jill made.
There is a saying – “The night is at the darkest just before the dawn”.
Deb G–
I’ve heard that wreck is a tough dive, lots of currents. True? Also, what was the water temp like? If you want, feel free to contact off the board, I’d love to hear about it.
I’ve gotta admit I’m a wuss diver. I like my water at no less than 85 degrees. Mostly head WAY south. Grenada has some pristine sites, especially at the north end of the island.
Hmm, wonder if Jill and Josh are going diving on their honeymoon?
Actually, I’m wondering if they are GOING on their honeymoon. Someone must know if she/they are still hanging around Valdosta or have gone off to drink Red Stripe and listen to Ziggy.
Have not heard anything about the honeymoon. I wonder if the media will catch it if they do leave. Had a blogger who talked about driving by her parents house and perhaps stopping in to chat with Mom and Dad LOL – now that’s persistence and courage! Golfed this a.m. with soome folks to include a lady and man who are both LTC’s in the AF at Pope. They seem to know quite a bit about quite a bit and they stated that they believe the Air Force is doing a thorough investigation of the TRUE FACTS surrounding this case – thorough to make sure they have this story straight. They do not think Command at Moody will cover anything, unless, an abortion comes in to play as that would be similar to not relaying someone had cancer or a terminal illness or a tumor, etc..(did not think about that) and that is a privacy issue at that point. However, they did think something would be said in regards to NO ABDUCTION TAKING PLACE.
Shrink: The dive did have lots of currents, but not so bad. The weather caused cancellations on several charters due to those currents so, on average, I don’t think the currents might be so bad ALL THE TIME. Temp was 78 degrees and the U-352 is down at approximately 115′ and visibility was near 80% (a good thing). It is one of the dives most would like to see, however, yes, you are correct, I have heard there are many fatalities and accidents there. I did not go in at any point, did not see any point to go in and the outside is pretty much rusted away, but the history of this sub and the sinking by a Coast Guard cutter is worth the trip. We were told 17 men died and some were taken as POWs back to Charleston, SC. I was certified in Rockport, MA in the month of October (COLD) so 78 degrees is OK for me! I usually go to Harbour Island, Bahamas as some friends have a home there – GORGEOUS DIVING if you ever want to go to a great serene location (look up “Valentine’s Dive Shop”), but several smaller sharks at the tip going out of the Harbour. Never have seen them be aggressive, but have heard larger ones occasionally come in.
Oy! MA in OCTOBER???
I live in a warm state, so I’m not much into the cold any longer. A disgrace to my New England upbringing!
Done the Bahamas. They are close by. Love the out islands. I never go into a wreck unless I can see more than one way out. Love the adventure, but I’m cautious.
Glad to hear the rumor on the street is that the AF will do “the right thing” re an investigation.
Nothing wrong with making sure all the facts are in, and it’s all the whole truth and nothing but.
No one wants to see her hung if it was something beyond her control (ie, some sort of criminal activity, mugging gone bad, abduction for ransome and they said, “Whoops, shouldn’t have grabbed this touristieve”–not that I think it was) or if it was all some sort of misunderstanding.
However, IF there’s something else going on and she put herself in the situation, I don’t want to see her get the “resignation” option when an enlisted kid would get nailed. Not right, and it doesn’t reflect well on the officer corps of any service.
As the wife, daughter and grand-daughter of officers, it was always my understanding that they were supposed to set the example, not get away with things because of a superior position in the pecking order.
“…They do not think Command at Moody will cover anything…” Meaning full and complete disclosure at all other than unexpected treatment of a medical condition. Nope—the Air Force often only discloses in an official press release what it can’t avoid releasing into public domain. No more, no less. It doesn’t matter whether accident, wrong-doing, or anything else. The more complete release into public domain will most probably require a news agency filing of a Freedom of Information act request.
Presuming no abduction taking place and the Air Force disclosing accurately and completely the circumstances, situations and events of what happened and why. The personal accountability for wrong-doing should most certainly be determined by a convened courts-martial regardless of any mitigation factor of loss of mental capacity or mental responsibility. Since this is a time of war (Global War on Terrorism) it is perhaps fortunate for the Major that she was not deployed into a Theater of War, Theater of Operations, Joint Special Operations Area, or combat zone as this allows avoidance of a Courts-Martial considering the imposing of maximum “in time of war” punishment where AWOL, missing movement, and other offenses may result in punishable by death conviction.
Possible punitive Articles that may be appropriate if worse case presumptions are correct:
Article 86-Absent without Leave—absents himself/herself or remains absent from his/her unit, organization, or place of duty at which he or she is required to be at the time prescribed. Includes also Absence from unit, organization, or place of duty at which he or she was required to be at. Requires that the absence was without authority from anyone competent to giver him or her leave and the absence was for a certain period of time.
Article 92-Failure to obey order or regulation—violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation. (basically a dereliction in duties).
Article 107-False Official Statements. Any attempt to deceive, signs any false record, return, regulation, order, or other false official statement knowing it to be false, or makes any false statement knowing it to be false with the intent to deceive.
Article 133-Conduct unbecoming an Officer and Gentleman (applies to both gender)—action or behavior in an official capacity which, in dishonoring disgracing the person as an officer, seriously compromises the officer’s character as a gentleman, or action or behavior in an unofficial or private capacity which, in disgracing the officer personally, seriously compromises the persons standing as an officer. It concerns lack of moral character.
Article 134-General Article—catch all such as: neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces and conduct brining discredit upon the armed forces.
Article 134-Adultry
This situation became public in Jun 2006. Basically nothing about news about until after the conclusion of each courts-martial.
Captain pleads to sex charge–Found guilty of obstruction
Same courts-martial as published in AF Times.
September 25, 2006
Captain given 60 days in Patrick sex case
Verdict allows honorable discharge
A captain at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., will serve time in jail for his role in a complex sex scandal, but he avoided a bad-conduct discharge.
Capt. Philip A. Sting, former operations officer for Patrick’s 45th Security Forces Squadron, was sentenced Sept. 13 to 60 days confinement, forfeiture of $2,250 a month for three months and a reprimand.
Sting pleaded guilty Sept. 12 to having sex with a female noncommissioned officer and committing indecent acts. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of obstructing justice but was convicted of trying to get the female NCO to cover up evidence of their tryst.
Sting faced up to 12 years in prison and dismissal from the Air Force, but prosecutors had asked only for the dismissal.
Instead, military judge Col. Stephen Woody issued a sentence that will likely end Sting’s career but will allow him to separate honorably.
Sting is the third airman and only officer to face a court-martial for involvement with Staff Sgt. Mary Laurenzi, an Air Force reservist who was serving extended active duty with the squadron.
Laurenzi testified in the July trial of then-Senior Master Sgt. Michael F. Sydney that her relationship with Sydney became sexual within days of reporting to the unit in October 2004.
Laurenzi testified in both Sydney’s and Sting’s trials under a grant of immunity from prosecution. She said she believed that Sydney could have had her active-duty orders canceled if she did not have sex with him.
But she also admitted to being a willing participant in their relationship, including having sexual relations with two other individuals, Sting and a chief master sergeant who was an Inspector General inspector, at Sydney’s direction.
Sting testified that shortly after he returned from deployment in Iraq in late 2004, Sydney took him out for what he thought would be lunch. Instead, they ended up at Laurenzi’s apartment, where Sydney directed her to perform oral sex on Sting.
Sting claimed he was under severe emotional stress after the deployment and that Sydney, his operations NCO, seemed to be the only one who understood him.
Sting said even before the sexual incident Dec. 16, 2004, that Sydney had been pressuring him to have sex with Laurenzi as a release.
He said, “This will help you with your issues. Your country owes you this,” Sting said.
An Air Force psychologist testified that Sting has been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his combat experiences in Iraq. The sentencing phase of the trial also included a reading of glowing reviews of Sting’s combat service from his superiors there and a tearful plea from his mother to the judge to allow her son to continue his service to his country.
”I just want you to show mercy to my son. Please allow him to continue in the military,” Olga Sting pleaded with Woody.
Sting’s sentence reflects those given to others in the case.
In July, Sydney, a 23-year veteran was sentenced to a reprimand, reduction to E-4, forfeiture of $1,145 a month for six months and six months’ confinement. Sydney was convicted on a variety of sexual charges, including pandering by arranging for Laurenzi to have sex with other men.
Former Chief Master Sgt. Troy D. Parker, a friend of Sydney’s who in 2005 was the lead security forces inspector for Space Command, pleaded guilty in May to dereliction of duty and wrongfully engaging in sexual acts with Laurenzi in May 2005, when he was at Patrick to perform an inspection.
Parker was reduced to senior master sergeant and sentenced to 45 days’ hard labor without confinement, forfeiture of $1,000 a month for three months and a reprimand.
I usually lurk but finally have decided to chime in. To all the “anti-Deb G.” folks out there-get a more firm grip on reality. If you have such low self esteem and lack of confidence and in your ability to post on this board, perhaps you should not be partaking in the discussion. Deb G. and the other women on this board offer articulate, intelligent and engaging theories about Major Metzger’s disappearance. It is not a competition here but a place for people to engage in banter, theorizing and meaningful debate.
***Graphic Discussion About Abortion Theory Below***
On the other hand, I have to say that I have professional experience in the abortion arena. I certainly think this is a plausible theory. From my experience, regardless of a woman’s profession, commissioned officer, physician, or welfare recipient, when she finds herself with an unintended pregnancy, she may find herself not thinking clearly and panicked if she feels she needs to hide the abortion. She may have done whatever she felt necessary to get to the clinic, thinking she would only be gone for a short period of time. But as stated previously, due to complications was detained.
With an abortion there are a number of complications. The perforated uterus mentioned earlier, hemorrhage, an allergic reaction to medications given during the procedure, commonly versed and fentanyl but who knows what is used there, retained products of conception which if not removed can cause sepsis and other more rare complications depending on the use of ultrasound equipment prior to the abortion procedure. The blood following the procedure can be quite heavy at times. Much unlike any period a woman has had. Not to be graphic, but may explain the blood on her feet.
With HIPPA privacy laws in the United States I can’t imagine that the AF will or could ever state that she was absent due to a medical reason like terminating a pregnancy. Like Deb G. said earlier, it would be the equivalent of stating that someone had cancer…or went to have their Chlamydia treated. Obviously something you don’t want the world to know. But, something we, as the public who prayed in her time of need but then feel duped by the seeming lies feel we have a right to know. Surely there must be some compromise.
Thanks for the entertaining times, you guys are a hoot.
I ran across this old news from the Rocky Mtn News on-line:
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_4980313,00.html
It may have already posted here, but I hadn’t seen it. It has a wedding photo of the happy pair and some odd info: Jill wanted to wear her dress blues to her own wedding but Josh said she had to wear a white dress. Also says that Josh stated she looked “swollen and bruised” after her recovery.
Hmmm. Very interesting.

Then, there was a bad omen then for poor Josh. Sort of Heaven’s warning.
***
Maj. Jill Metzger, 33, and Capt. Joshua Mayo, 26, on their wedding day this year.
***
This one makes me ponder about unusual age difference. Not very much ordinary couple, I’d say.
Found this on the following web site:
http://www.militarycorruption.com/metzger.htm
TIGHT-LIPPED, EVEN TO FAMILY MEMBERS
Metzger’s new husband, Capt. Joshua Mayo, told the Denver POST his wife had spoken to him in a brief call once she was “freed.” Below is a portion of the reported conversation:
(MAYO) – “Are you hurt?”
(METZGER) – “I’ve been told not to discuss that.”
(MAYO) – “Well, what happened then? Are you injured or anything?”
(METZGER) “I’m fine. Because there’s an investigation, I’m not supposed to discuss it.”
Hmmmmmmm!
Metzger’s father-in-law, Kelly Mayo, added more fuel to speculative fires when he told the Associated Press that Air Force OSI (Office of Special Investigations) agents told him on the telephone that Maj. Metger’s hair had been “cut off” and she had been “badly beaten.”
MilitaryCorruption.com asked a photo analysis expert to study pix of Metzger being reunited with family members in the United States. He stated that, under magnification, the image shows the young woman to be “unbruised around the face” and “possibly wearing a heavy, brown wig.” In earlier Air Force photographs taken a couple months ago, Metzger’s hair was short and rather thin. It was blonde then, brown now. Why such a thick mane, unless it’s a fake?
Kuba: Interesting article. I have no idea what your agenda is nor do I care to try and “figure it out”, however, I give you credit for your persistence in what you believe in here – that an AF Officer has lied and you obviously have a passion to get the truth. You also realize how wrong this is, and I actually look forward to the information you find and provide here – thank you.
Julie: Welcome to the ranks of being another intelligent blogger in this blog area. Enjoyed reading your info. (thanks for covering my back) 🙂
Just wondering if anyone had heard about this prior to now?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060924/ap_on_re_us/diver_deaths
I am in no way comparing this to the Major Jill situation. Interested as a diver (albeit one who doesn’t “do” cold), period.
The Coasties are supposed to be really good at this kind of stuff. Johca, any of you SOC types, ideas/comments?
Hi everyone. I don’t have lots of time to post this morning, but wanted to throw something out here. Does anyone know when in 2003 the couple started dating? If my instincts are correct, Jill was never loyal to Josh from the beginning. If they started dating between January – June 2003 she started off the relationship cheating on him. How do I know this? Because the emails I received gave me specific dates about when she and my ex started hooking up. Funny, she was so proud of giving me every fact/dates/details about her relationship with my ex…now I am glad she did : )
Happy, what are you waiting for?
POST THE E-MAILS
Shrink: WOW! I was just reading this article this a.m., but did not even think of bringing it up on here. I have no idea about what happened out there, however, I can offer this (oh boy, more theories) being a New England diver and have friends who have diving skills in ice water diving (I don’t). I have heard of stories where a condition called “after dive” occures from a diver in thermal shock or hypothermia being HANDLED IMPROPERLY which can cause dangerous rhythyms of the heart and then a severe drop in body temp leading to death. When I read the article, this is what I thought about as BOTH divers died AFTER they were brought on board and obviously “handled” and moved around. The fact they claim it is “mysterious” led me to believe they might be covering for possible “fault” on the handling of two severely hypotermic divers. Ice diving is extremely dangerous and any part of thier suits which may have had even a tiny tear/hole or improper gear can cause severe hypotermia, loss of consciousness, organ failure and death WTIHIN MINUTES. I know there are MANY dangers to ice diving, free flows, bubbles, the list goes on for the dangers here so who knows, but the above it what came to my mind given they say it is a mystery (can’t help but feel an autopsy would have shown what happened(. Well, more theories and speculations, but that is MY two cents….
Happy: Your information could be VERY valuable to Moody personnel. I can imagine they are piecing together Jill’s past right about now, and her personnel life will come into play. If you have emails and proof of her “doings” perhaps you should contact someone at Moody. Kudos to you girl for KEEPING ALL THAT!! I don’t care what anyone says, at this point, HER PERSONAL LIFE IS GAME GIVEN THE SILENCE in the fact it may have something to do with the reasons as to why she did what she just did – whatever it is she just did….
Shrink: Hypothermia and thermal shock in ice water happens almost immediately with improper gear or tears or any type of opening. This is why they took all the gear off the boat immeidately to inspect them all I am sure for these reasons.
Happy: POST THE EMAILS….. 🙂 Heck, she will not tell us the truth, she has lied to the entire world essentially and offers no explanation – none. Betrayal to so many for making them believe she was kidnapped, people saying vigiles, praying, TONS of taxpayer and military money being spent on trying to find her, post the emails if you feel like it.
VR: Dang it you beat me to it 🙂 … I also found and was going to post the Rock Mnt article, along with this one
http://www.ndsmcobserver.com/media/storage/paper660/news/2006/09/13/News/Missing.Soldier.Wife.Of.Nd.Grad.Found-2269112.shtml
where Mayo calls a Notre Dame classmate (girlfriend?) during the start of the “ordeal” and after she was found.
Happy: enough with the tease — lets see them!
O.K., I guess I can’t consider myself a lurker any more, since I’ve started posting almost every day now.
Shrink & Deb G.: we are cluttering up this thread with VERY off topic stuff, but here goes… Talking it over with fellow divers here at work, we concur that the ultimate cause of death might have been improper handling, but the original cause of distress (obvious within the first 10 minutes of the dive) is most likely equipment failure or a “bad fill” — I tend to believe the later especially since both divers were affected similarly (both needing CPR). Thought you’d like to read the last of the XO’s weekly reports: http://www.uscg.mil/pacarea/healy/deployments/AWS06/XO/AUG%2021/21%20AUG%2006%20Update.htm
There is a link issue so my post on the dive accident needs approval. However many possibilitis such as iced regulator, contaminated air in tanks, to other equipment issues. Hopefully my post will get rapid approval. 🙂
ijosha: Excellent info. provided! Nothing like coming straight from the “source”. I agree with the improper handling being the final cause. You would think a bad fill would never happen in this situation. Yes, off topic, but just another mystery many (at least I am) interested in. They were both outstanding military personnel and divers and so young, very sad.
Johca: Contaminated air tanks could be a possibility (not sure the Coast Guard would let that happen though). I just highly doubt that their regulators would ice though. The Coast Guard would most likely have the proper regulators for icing and ice diving and probably equipped with a 2nd stage free flow control valve if that did happen, but they make special regulators for ice diving and I would think they would have that. Oh boy, another mystery! I took this out of a local newspaper where one of the divers died and the parents agreed with the statement believing it could be true: “Speculation has mounted as to what occured in the waters that claimed the young guardsman’s life. Conflicting media reports have labeled the dive as routine and intended to familiarize the divers with the arctic waters, while others have said the ship got stuck on a block of ice, so Duque and Hill were sent to inspect the ship’s rudder.”
Well, this is keeping us busy until we find more info. on Jill Metzger. Does anyone know if she went on her honeymoon?

I certainly don’t feel like writing it again. However, Diver’s have died on pretty tame shallow water divers in sight of team mates who saw no sign of distress and cause after all was examined was nothing more than best guess.
I can’t discount contaminated air as type of compressor (electric/gas/diesel) and air sample maintenance records are not disclosed and if source was a cascade nothing is saying somebody did not put the wrong bottle into the system (unlikely but possible). Icing is typically the first stage and one of the more common causes is dehumidifier on the compressor did not remove moisture and thus water vapor is source air being the problem as air is converted from 2000 PSIG in tank to typically 110 PSIG in the first stage of the diving regulator. There is also possibility approved cold water regulator was not used.
Don’t know a thing about diving, but I do know about “improper handling” with hypothermic patients. I worked in Colorado where we occasionally saw the results of ski/snowboard accidents who lay outside all night. One guy went head-first into a tree well on his snowboard and wasn’t found till next day. When they found him he was sort of alive with a heart rate of 2 beats per minute! The rescue crews put him on a sled and then into an ambulance, at which point he went into ventricular fibrillation. He was taken to a hospital, warmed, but they couldn’t get a regular heart rhythm re-established and he died. YES, you can throw someone into fatal arrhythmias if you jiggle them around when they’re profoundly hypothermic. (It doesn’t cause a further drop in body temp, though, their body temp is already very low.) But it’s sort of a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t kind of situation. You HAVE to MOVE them and start rewarming them, which often precipitates the cardiac arrhythmias. So if these two died after the fact, it’s not likely because anyone screwed up with their handling or evacuation. I’m sure the CG is more aware than any group of the dangers of hypothermia and cardiac arrhythmias. If they had to haul them up by rope, fling them on the deck, get them into a helicopter, etc, then they necessarily had to jiggle them around. No other way to get them out of the situation. And if they went into ventricular fibrillation during these maneuvers, there wasn’t much anyone could do to get them out of it.
Johca: I wonder if they will ever share the real findings. The fact they are not saying WHY leads many to believe they are hiding something. Sound familiar? I hear ya on the icing, but I just have a hard time believing these two trained Coast Guard divers, on a Coast Guard vessel, with other personnel around would go into that dive without the approved regulators. There are some hi-tech regulators out there made specifically for ice diving with safety features, even some with anti-freeze on them! 🙂 However, if the crew/Captain DID make them go down to chip away some ice blocks, perhaps those regulators were NOT approved because it might not actually have been just a training dive (as they said), hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I do know one thing for sure – no ice diving for me!!! New England was COLD enough.
VR: Sad part is: Noone out there WANTED these two to die and they had the safety ropes on them. Just a very sad situation for someone to point blame to. The female diver was highly trained, heck they both were. Just sad and all in a 10 minute time period, which led me to think hypothermia because it happened in the beginning. I have NO idea, just an unfortunate accident…..I like theorizing with you folks though…challenging stuff – I’m hooked on checking this blog site!

Stranger things have happened-and this is not a guess, presumption, or assumption.
