Airforce Major Jill Metzger, stationed at Manas Air Base, was shopping in a Kyrgyzstan mall with friends when she disappeared.

(CNN) — A U.S. Air Force officer is missing after a trip to a shopping mall in Kyrgyzstan, a U.S. military statement said Wednesday.
Maj. Jill Metzger, with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing, was last seen shopping at the Zum Shopping Center with others from the Manas Air Base when she disappeared on Tuesday, the statement said.
“Major Metzger was last seen wearing a green sweater and blue jeans,” the statement said.
“She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is in excellent athletic condition.”
Military Web sites describe Metzger as a top-flight marathoner.
Both the Kyrgyz police and the US military are searching for her:
BISHKEK, September 6, 2006 (RFE/RL) — Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry and National Security Service say they have launched a joint operation to locate the U.S. air servicewoman who disappeared on September 5 in Bishkek.
The woman, who has been identified as Major Jill Metzger, is working at the U.S. Manas military air base, near Bishkek.
Manas air base public affairs officer Ann Carpenter told RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service that Metzger disappeared while shopping at Bishkek’s main department store (TsUM) with other U.S. base members.
“The [U.S.] 376th Air Expeditionary Wing base officials are working with the U.S. Embassy and local officials to locate the servicemember as soon as possible,” Carpenter added.
The U.S. Embassy in Bishkek has issued pictures of a blonde woman as part of the search operation.
Let’s hope she’s found quickly.
Update: Maj. Metzger was supposed to return home on Thursday and went to the mall to buy souvenirs for her family.

Still no word coming out on the down-low/scuttle-butt. Tried tapping into a few resources and the only common thread is the Russian boyfriend theory. Donât really know if that really fits into this but itâs the only word Iâm getting from anyone other than this board. Another interesting tidbit is that our law enforcement types, not security forces (formerly known as security police/ the AFâs Army), werenât allowed much time to debrief her either. Itâs looking like the State Department jumped in ASAP to sanitize the situation. If this has already been addressed forgive me. This thread has gotten so long that itâs hard to get through all of it in one sitting. As was mentioned earlier, the truth is in the details. There have been enough character witnesses, or at least claimants, to attest to a pattern of behavior. If you canât believe what you read on the Internet, what can you believe? Someone linked to my post regarding this topic to this thread and I have looked over much of what has been said here and wanted to add my two cents, not that anyone cares, however.
I do want to add I am happy she was found alive and that I do not know Jill and therefore have no motives for wanting to trash her reputation, but let’s be honest here. She has been propelled into the international spotlight whether intentionally or not, and is therefore free game for the public scrutiny, esp. considering the facts we have been given. Until she or someone else in authority gives a satisfactory explanation, people are going to talk and you cannot blame them for doing so.
So here are my thoughts:
Regarding bride kidnapping. I lived in Kyrgyzstan for over a year and am very familiar with the custom. I even attended the “wedding” which resulted in this practice and it actually ended up being a happy marriage although not all of them are. As one poster (I believe “Andy”) said, Jill is not the ideal candidate for this tradition. As Andy correctly said, she cannot provide what Kyrgyz traditionalists want: a good daughter-in-law, good housekeeping according to Kyrgyz tradition and of course Kyrygz babies.
Also, the practice of bride kidnapping mostly happens in rural areas. As was also mentioned earlier, it is almost comical to think someone would try this in downtown Bishkek.
I am surprised those who are military personnel commenting on this thread have said nothing about the kind of training you must receive in regards to crisis situations. I am not in the military so I have no idea what sort of training they give you, but I would hope you are taught how to properly react in such a situation and I would be very surprised if you are told to willingly get into a strange vehicle without putting up a fight, faking a seizure or doing something to attract attention to your situation.
Even civilians in self-defense classes are told how to stave off kidnappers, rapists, etc. and none of those tactics include willining allowing perps to control where you go, what you do, etc. So I am surprised Jill went wherever she did so willingly. Given her position in the USAF, if that is indeed what she did, she surely does not deserve her leadership position.
As was also mentioned, there is mall security at the Tsum. If there was indeed a “bomb” in Jill’s pocket, it’s not like there were not people who couldn’t help her. She had lots of resources at her disposal.
In regards to the possibility of a language barrier on the behalf of the local police, this also is very unlikely and it shows what little faith people have in the US military and how it looks after its staff. I would be VERY surprised if the US AF allowed Jill to be interviewed by local cops without the presence of a bi-lingual US Military representative at her side. Likewise, I would be shocked if Jill agreed to such an arrangement in the first place. I know I never would have.
If this is indeed what had happened, I suppose the USAF is not as top-notch as I thought it was and does not care for the well-being of its staff.
Whatever it is that happened, it would be in the best interest of the USAF to come clean on details for several reasons:
1) To help other military staff avoid situations like this and to help them take precautions;
2) To settle issues with the host country of Kyrygzstan being that Kyrgyz nationals have been blamed for committing a crime;
3) To bring to justice any wrong-doers (whether it be Jill for faking this event or the kidnappers for abducting her and most importantly
4) To clear the now tarnished name and reputation of the US Air Force which has come under heavy fire for not answering questions that U.S. taxpayers and Kyrgyz nationals deserve to know.

Major Jill Metzger is a United States Air Force officer and is assigned to the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing that has been deployed since June 2006 to Manas Air Base in the former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan to support operations in Afghanistan.
On September 4, 2006, after shopping in a mall in Bishkek to buy souvenirs for her family, she failed to return to Manas Air Base and was listed as missing.
Four days later, a telephoned tip led police to discover Jill Metzger walking in a disoriented manner near a police station with her hair cut and dyed. It is unclear if she had been abducted or if she had been held against her will; however, Metzger claimed that she had been kidnapped by 3 men and a woman who had held her against her will for the past four days. There are additional reports (Russian News Agency RIA Novosti, Washington Post, MSNBC) that someone placed an object on her person with “bomb” written on the object.
The USAF released a statement to the local press. The US military statement did not give details of her reappearance, although Metzger’s superior, Colonel Joel “Scott” Reese, praised “the cooperation between the base and local civil and police authorities during the investigation.”
“Her condition will be determined by a team of medical professionals. The investigation concerning her disappearance is continuing,” the statement said.
According to several discussion groups (see http://www.theodoresworld.net) and several others accessed by typing the keywords Jill and Metzger and pregnant and Kyrgyz TV, Kyrgyz television reported several days ago that Metzger was pregnant and wished to conceal this condition from her husband who lives abroad and with whom the child was not conceived. The TV station reported her going to the Issyk Ata district clinic in Kant to obtain an abortion. Verification independent of Kyrgyz TV reports is unlikely as the US government has hushed up the matter and US media find it unprofitable to soil photogenic women serving their countries with reports that might put in question their womanly honor.

Sooo, The Major…
…goes a missing. Major Jill Metzger went shopping in Kyrgyzstan and suddenly disappeard. Of course foulplay was immediately suspected. It had to be a kidnapping. Lots of people looking for her. Bands of young men in that country go out looking for young women to marry, and swoosh them up against their will to do so. Seems to be a likely scenario. No ransom note found, so it must be a drive-by ass grab. Officials are stymied. How could this be. Hmmm, she was going home to her loving husband in two weeks. Well, guess what, she showed up on the side of the road tonight, with a shaved head. You get where I’m going here? But DAMN, you gotta shave your head to tell your husband you don’t want his dick anymore? Just asking…

I did as lurker suggested and googled your name. Not surprisingly, you are commenting on dozens of web sites about Jill Metzger. You are on a widespread – albeit amateur – campaign of disinformation. Always, you cut and paste the same rumor about “someone in Kyrgyz” saying Metzger was pregnant. Yet nowhere – in all your dozens upon dozens of blog posts – have you cited a source, or attributed that claim. And the reason you can’t/won’t cite a source is because you made it up.
That’s why I don’t believe you. I think you are lying and have made up that rumor, which you are spreading with single-minded determination and zeal. You even made an entry in Wikipedia, citing a Theodore’s World discussion board and your own rumor! You obviously have an agenda, and are using unscrupulous methods to accomplish it.
Though you have successfully had some people on this blog believe your rumor – it doesn’t wash. The most rudimentary examination of your claims show them to be unfounded and unproven. There has been NO MENTION in any online Kyrgyz media – NONE – of such a rumor.

ROFLMFAO! I find it amazing that folks come in here in regards to what Kuba is posting. Who really cares what he posts or what you post for that matter. Have ya ever heard of Free Speach? I have to admit, I did NOT go to any posts or links which Kuba posted – mostly because I don’t care and am really just having some fun in here with theories, however, YOU FOLKS DID GO TO HIS POSTS AND LINKS LOLOLOL and followed his instructions – kind of like the note Jill Metzger found!! Well, took you guys a while to figure he might be a fraud (I offer no truth of facts on that one), just like it will take a while to piece together what really happened to Jill Metzger.
Such a sorry lack of self worth, confidence and little little people who come into a blog and name call (i.e. idiots, morons, etc…). How hypocritical to act like children and name call and accuse and bash characters and speculate on anyone’s character yet STAND BEHIND A MILITARY OFFICER WHO HAS OBVIOIUSLY LIED AND OFFERS NO EXPLANATION. Frankly, I laugh when I read the tiny insults because you folks are the ones making fools of yourselves for even remotely believing or standing behind this Officer who had lied to the world basically…LOL, can you get any more stupid really???? I guess all you folks believe all the Priest molesting kids too? Yes, thought so, how could such an honorable profession and position as a Priest, noble of noble, God honoring, commit such a crime – no real proof, just hearsay from a child (and Jill Metzger is NO child)..LOLOL I have some swamp land to sell ya too…….

We are pretty sure you are reading this. Its ok honey, you don’t need to keep making up stories or attacking bloggers. Also, please know that we all have a theory that we like more than others. Some think you went with friends, some believe that you had an abortion and others that you just lost it. Sweetheart, you really have a long day ahead of you if you plan to hit every American, every blog site and every News channel trying to convince them of your innocence. Instead of doing that, please use you valuable time and energy on convincing the investigators assigned to your case.

If I had the time I could find other examples of commissioned officer who love puppies but had flaws of character that finally caught up to them. Thier OERs most certainly said the best-of-the best although those writing the OERs knew otherwise.

Today, in an unexpected announcement, the Secretary of State, Candy Rice Crispy, declared that the recent incident involving Major Jill Metzger was a planned event. In cooperation with the Kyrgyzstan government, US Military, and American Embassy in Bishkek, the staged incident was part of a âfind the flawâ movement in democratic societies.
Under the acronym: STUPID, or Strategic Theory Undermining People In Democracy, the test was supposed to assess the vulnerabilities and shortfalls in communications across a multi-lingual platform. This STUPID test involved a former USSR country, which is now the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. The official language in Kyrgyzstan is Russian, however 97.348438% of the inhabitants speak the native Krygyz language. STUPID, in conjunction with the Idiosyncratic Details In Obscuring Truths (IDIOTs) project, was to play upon a ârealâ event as it occurred, and its impact on worldwide dissemination of the story.
Ms. Rice further indicated that âSTUPID/IDIOTs test is still ongoing, and has in fact picked up momentum. The number of official government participants is estimated to be in the thousands. Unofficial STUPID/IDIOTs participating are at present too high to be counted.â Itâs unclear if Ms. Rice meant too âhighâ, or too HIGH.
She also added that Major Metzger was recovering from her âtraumaticâ experience, noting further that Major Metzgerâs spontaneous âadditionsâ (ie, stopping for haircut and dye job, trance inducing notes, bombs, etc) to the project agenda may skew the overall results.

A friend at work showed me this blog and gave me a link to the Major Metzger story. I want to say I am angry that the Air Force has not come forward and declared this crazy girl a liar already. I mean are you people for real. If this was an Army private his @ss would be hung out to dry by now. I have a nephew in Iraq and if he is willing to lose his life fighting for freedom I think the least he deserves is knowing he will never have to report to some crazy girl that runs away and comes up with wild tales to tell. I read some of the stories here about Jill was my friend and blah blah blah but I didn’t read any stories about Jill was my boss and she was a really good one. Or I reported to Major Metzger and she was a fair leader so treat her fairly. That makes me think that she was never such a good boss usually the troops are the ones to know the best. I am sure some of you officers will come in here and insult my statement and I don’t care I don’t want my nephew saluting you either!

Just a Comment: I commend your ability to stand up to what this AF Officer has done. I come from a long family of enlisted Army and some Officers (I will not even tell you what I am). I have a respect for enlisted Army who play by the rules, even more of a respect for Officers WHO CAN AND WILL have the guts and courage to KNOW this fellow Officer has done wrong – in more ways than just “lying” to the military, government and anyone in her path. This is deeper than that. An Officer who would stand by her and commit to saying she has done nothing wrong is merely cowardly brown-nosing and stands with no guts, glory or INTEGRITY….
Just a Comment: Your nephew, I am almost sure, is in good hands. Most Officers truly CARE about their soldiers, most even more than themselves and would put their lives on the line for them. I have seen it many many times….you are justified with what you write….
