Airforce Major Jill Metzger, stationed at Manas Air Base, was shopping in a Kyrgyzstan mall with friends when she disappeared.

(CNN) — A U.S. Air Force officer is missing after a trip to a shopping mall in Kyrgyzstan, a U.S. military statement said Wednesday.
Maj. Jill Metzger, with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing, was last seen shopping at the Zum Shopping Center with others from the Manas Air Base when she disappeared on Tuesday, the statement said.
“Major Metzger was last seen wearing a green sweater and blue jeans,” the statement said.
“She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is in excellent athletic condition.”
Military Web sites describe Metzger as a top-flight marathoner.
Both the Kyrgyz police and the US military are searching for her:
BISHKEK, September 6, 2006 (RFE/RL) — Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry and National Security Service say they have launched a joint operation to locate the U.S. air servicewoman who disappeared on September 5 in Bishkek.
The woman, who has been identified as Major Jill Metzger, is working at the U.S. Manas military air base, near Bishkek.
Manas air base public affairs officer Ann Carpenter told RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service that Metzger disappeared while shopping at Bishkek’s main department store (TsUM) with other U.S. base members.
“The [U.S.] 376th Air Expeditionary Wing base officials are working with the U.S. Embassy and local officials to locate the servicemember as soon as possible,” Carpenter added.
The U.S. Embassy in Bishkek has issued pictures of a blonde woman as part of the search operation.
Let’s hope she’s found quickly.
Update: Maj. Metzger was supposed to return home on Thursday and went to the mall to buy souvenirs for her family.

Wow…I come back from after work margarita’s to see if we had any more philosophical banter from sickening that I could ponder tonight in the hopes of making me a more ethical blogger. Imagine my delight (alcohol induced, but still) when I read the post from our new friend, Cpt. Wizbang! How eloquently and respectfully you defended our little blog community to sickenings harsh accusations. Thank you, sir….(taking a bow)
This truly is an obsession and I will admit in the beginning it was mere karmic appreciation and personal pleasure on my part. However, now I find myself enjoying reading everyone’s theories based upon their own professional, military and personal experiences related to this case. A lot like reading a VERY long mystery in which we really do not care about the main character. Lets face it, we wouldn’t be going around and around if any of Jill’s statements or the occurrences of her disappearance seemed at all legitimate. Human nature…the same natural curiosity that makes me buy an US WEEKLY every week to find any intimate detail of Tom and Katie or Nicole Richie’s anorexia. We love celebrities, especially when they mess up – and self-made celebrities are a special treat! However, due to our experiences that MAKE us obsessed in this case (most military), we know what impact Jill’s actions could have on our Armed Forces and International affairs. Therefore, Sickening, we are a bit passionate and might take offense to people taking offense to our obsession. Was that clear, or should I not post after margarita night again? Okay – need to pay attention to the boy. I will catch you all tomorrow (during my lunch break – civilian computer).

Everyone else: I have to admit, I came onto this blog out of curiosity. Ended up staying because I started to enjoy the folks on here and the witty banter and speculations. Strange, a fellow judge tonight was questioned by a coach regarding a scoring call – well, I chanted in and defended the judge with some comments of my own and stating I witnessed her same call. Well, I had not witnessed it. The other judge looked at me when the coach left and said “thanks for covering my back”. Would you believe I thought of our Wizbanger site!!! So, thanks for covering MY back guys/gals in my absence….Gosh, I need you folks at Bragg….

CPT WizBANG has made his point well. I think we’ve thoroughly plumbed the depths of depravity with our theories and it’s getting tiresome.
Let’s step back a minute and look at our puzzle. What do we know FOR CERTAIN?
1. MAJ Metzger went shopping with a group from the base, separated from them, and disappeared for a few days. (We know this because the AF confirmed it.)
2. MAJ Metzger reappeared with some trauma on her body, and with her hair dyed and cut. (We can see evidence of bruising and a hair cut on her welcome home photo.)
3. MAJ Metzger was interviewed by the Kyrgyrz police. She was then taken back by the USAF to the base, stabilized, and was quickly sent out to Landstuhl.
4. She stayed at Landstuhl a few days. She released a brief statement asking for privacy for mental and physical healing.
5. She returned to Moody AFB. The Air Force is not calling her disappearance an abduction in its press releases.
That’s IT. Everything else we’ve heard is suspect. We are building our depravity puzzle around the biggest, juiciest, most tantalizing piece: The Bomb-in-Pocket Story. Consider, for a moment, just for fun, that The Story never happened. It was a misunderstanding on the part of the Kyrgyz police, or it was made up by the Kyrgyz press, whatever. MAJ Metzger never said it or never intended it. What now? If that big piece is gone, everything falls apart. There’s no reason to suspect she was hiding anything, doing something “bad”. If there’s no Story, there’s every reason to believe something bad really did happen to her, and she may have been doing something as innocent as walking outside the shopping mall for fresh air. (Yes, yes, she “separated from the group” but big deal.)
What do we know about Jill Metzger? We have heard stories about her “reputation”. I think Happy’s story is probably true, it sounds like it, but we all know there is ALWAYS another side to those kinds of situations. We conclude, though, from other comments also that she slept around some when she was single and drank alcohol. I didn’t hear anyone say she slept with a married man or broke up a marriage. I didn’t hear anyone say she showed up at work drunk or had a string of DUIs.
No one on this board has EVER said anything bad about her abilities as an AF officer. In fact, before they got scared of posting, people at the beginning said she is a “model officer”. She got herself promoted to Major, so she must have something going for her in the professional realm. Her dad is an AF officer too, and glowed with pride in the interview when asked what was special about Jill. “Well, she’s Air Force!” he said. We are left with the impression that she was a good officer from a very pro-AF family, she took her job seriously and did it well. We know that she’s a great marathoner, “she can run 26 miles in 3 hours”, so we credit her with amazing stamina and determination.
We can make some of the depravity theories fit the puzzle, but only if we pound them in around The Story. And then stepping back, the puzzle just doesn’t look right. For example, in the abortion theory we’d have to postulate too many odd things about MAJ Metzger to make it fit: 1.)she got pregnant when she didn’t want to be 2.) she decided to abort in a foreign country with sub-US medical facilities 3.) she intentionally went AWOL to do it 4.) she lied to cover herself. That’s 4 seemingly out-of-character suppositions. Too many.
I still don’t have the faintest clue what happened. One of the depraved stories may turn out to be true. But I think we should step back and consider what we know to be factual, and it isn’t much. Think over what we know WITHOUT the influence of The Bomb Story, and it looks very different.
But Cloack & Dagger games cannot be dissmissed. What if, Jill’s case was a red herring to cover up alltogether different story, just to avert an attention?
These kind of things did happen in the past in Kyrgyzstan.
Few years back, US spy Edmond Pope was arrested in Kyrgyzstan by Russian FSB for trying to get details on new Russian secret lightining fast SKVAL (sqall) torpedos. Those torpedos are tested in Kyrgyzstan. (Kyrgyztan used to be traditional torpedo manufacturer for Soviet Military Complex during Soviet Times, these military ties with Russia seem to be reviving again for the first time since the break-up of the USSR. Russians are interested in investing to former Soviet Military plants in Kyrgyzstan. Some of the factories already started functioning.)

The Pope case centers on the Squall, a fearsome weapon that has fascinated
western military officials for years. It screams
through the water at up to 300 mph, five times the speed of other torpedoes.
One Russian submarine designer, resorting to
braggadocio in an essay, compared a Squall attack to “the lightning stab of
a dagger.”
Unique in maritime history, the 27-foot-long torpedo can go so fast because
at top speed its oddly shaped nose creates a
vapor bubble around its entire length. Water does not touch its metal skin,
so drag is dramatically reduced.
Hoping to reverse-engineer the torpedo to learn how to defend against it,
the Pentagon and its allies have tried for years to
lay hands on the Squall. Some British arms experts were deported from Russia
several years ago after asking questions
about it.
At his trial, Pope’s lawyers hammered on the point that one version, the
Squall-E, has been described in books and
magazines, and has even been marketed at defense expositions. But despite
attempts by various governments to buy it, only
one deal is known to have been consummated: China bought as many as 40
Squalls in the mid-1990s.

And there were other unsuccessful attempts to lay a hand on that Russian torpedo in Kyrgyzstan by US intelligence. I’d imagine that now Russian FSB and Kyrgyz SNB at high alert with Jill’s case.

Противолодочный комплекс ВА-111 “Шквал” с ракетой М-5, разработанный в НИИ-24 (в настоящее время ГНПО “Регион”), был принят на вооружение ВМФ СССР в 1977 году. В начале 90-х годов по договоренности президентов СССР и США о предотвращении вооруженных инцидентов на море все “Шквалы” были сняты с советских многоцелевых подлодок и складированы в арсеналах. В конце 90-х годов на базе “Шквала” создана противолодочная скоростная подводная ракета с эффективной дальностью 7 км и маршевой скоростью до 100 м в секунду. Также разработан экспортный вариант, получивший название “Шквал-Е”.
Дэвид Робертсон привлек внимание российской контрразведки в конце прошлого года, когда американцы, проводившие боевые действия в Афганистане, перебросили часть войск в Киргизию. Там на одной из бывших военных баз СССР в составе группы аэродромного обеспечения и был замечен агент Робертсон.
По словам представителей ФСБ, он вступил в контакт с офицером в чине подполковника (его имя не разглашается), работавшим в испытательном центре вооружений ВМФ Минобороны РФ, расположенном на озере Иссык-Куль. На акватории этого озера и проводились испытания “Шквала”.
Контакты продолжились в Москве, куда вскоре был откомандирован старший офицер. Здесь с ним стала работать 3-й секретарь консульского отдела посольства США, также сотрудница ЦРУ, Юнджи Кенсинджер. По словам чекистов, американка тщательно оберегала своего агента, используя для контактов с ним тайники и зашифрованные почтовые отправления. Представители ФСБ утверждают, что на офицера шпионы воздействовали и с помощью психотропных препаратов, причем перебарщивали с дозировкой.
В ФСБ говорят, что офицер сам рассказал контрразведке о своих контактах с американцами. И заговор был раскрыт на самой ранней стадии. Предъявлять какие-либо претензии госпоже Кенсинджер, обладающей дипломатическим иммунитетом, контрразведчики не стали. 8 апреля она вылетела на родину, хотя до окончания ее командировки оставалось еще достаточно много времени. Господину Робертсону, который находится в Киргизии, также удалось избежать проблем с ФСБ.
Подробности этого дела в ФСБ рассказывать вчера не стали, отметив лишь, что вмешательство контрразведки предотвратило “нанесение серьезного ущерба безопасности России”. Посольство США от комментариев вообще отказалось.
Это уже вторая попытка американских спецслужб получить доступ к секретам “Шквала”. Год назад за это был осужден на 20 лет, а потом помилован агент ЦРУ Эдмонд Поуп. Другой фигурант того дела, профессор МГТУ имени Баумана Анатолий Бабкин, ждет суда.
Адвокат господина Бабкина Андрей Андрусенко, узнав от корреспондента Ъ о новом шпионском скандале, связанном со “Шквалом”, только удивился: “Какая это гостайна, если ГНПО “Регион” официально предлагает свое изделие к продаже?”

Journalist’s videocamera was smashed by US military personnell with them shouting “No press!!!” Very weird stuff begins from here…
Lies, lies and another bunch of lies. As English proverb says “Devil is hidden in details.” And all the Western media crying foul about terrorists in Kyrgyzstan… Robbing necklaces, and stealing brides, shaving hairs off in the broad daylight…

An active duty Air Force Major consider to be the best of the best with 12 years of active duty service has an unauthorized absence that cause intense and extensive search for action and activities within hours of her disappearance.
The Major is located three days later in unexplained situation of alteration of physical appearance, having signs of trauma, and less than fully coherent mental state.
She is flown out of Kyrgyzstan within hours of being found and initial press reports provide a tale of abduction, escape, and evasion that if true was of such heroic accomplishment the Major would deserve significant heroism recognition. However, many military members find the tale of abduction and escape unreasonable and ridiculous.
Ten days later the Air Force has provided no official new release confirming or denying the tale other than tale is questionable and an inquiry is being conducted.
A practice of absolute and complete absence of official and unofficial news release is implemented in a manner very seldom seen in any scandal, wrong doing, or event in recent military history.
The Air Force has yet to confirm or deny the Major was duped, coerced, or forced to cooperate in being abducted.
The Air Force has yet to confirm or deny the Major was a participant in her abduction or acted alone.
The Air Force has yet to confirm or deny her hair was dyed and shaved.
The Air Force has yet to confirm or deny if she was drugged when found.
The Air Force has yet to confirm or deny blood on her feet.
I agree with Chinese proverb—“As Chinese proverb says “It is not important what has been told, it is important what has not been told.” Or more to the point, non-disclosure can become deceit when others are due correct information and the not providing it is a deliberate plan to fool others into thinking one way rather than another.
Regarding any claim of being an espionage agent for the getting of and transport of a torpedo, I don’t care how much sex she had, that torpedo was too big of a “BOB” for her to handle.
All the usual aerovac considerations would fly out the window in this case because of the publicity it had generated or would be expected to generate. Her quick evacuation is the result of the Manas Wing Commander getting on the phone and saying “I want this Major on a plane to Landstuhl. NOW.” Plane appears, paperwork happens after the fact. I doubt JRMO even got involved at the beginning.
“Medevac” is a term the Army uses.
“Aerovac” is AF language.
(They mean basically the same thing. Usually the Army is “medevac-ing” by chopper to a tent hospital, from which the USAF then “aerovacs” to the big theater hospital.)

Wiz, I usually agree with you but there are a few points to clarify here. JRMO owns nothing, they can’t divert anything…that authority belongs to the TACC (at least when you are talking about T-tails). Yes, it is very possible and likely that Jill was whisked away with or without injury due to the political environment that was developing over there… it might have been done under to provision of airevac. I don’t want to discuss the details too deeply (this isn’t an appropriate forum to discuss operations in detail) but there is regular C-17 flow to Germany from Man-ass. Most of our airevacs are NOT airevac missions but rather, opportune evacuations. AE crews are in theater and remember… she didn’t go direct. She went to Bagram for a day first. In this case, the wing commander sure as hell has some pull to get her out… especially if we’ve got resources going that way already. If her health was really bad, she could have gone direct. She was whisked out (I believe) because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Was hoping to come on this morning and find some type of new detail – NOTHING. Dang. Given all we have speculated and what we do have from the initial military rep. relaying abduction (I find it hard to believe they would say that if something was being covered and I also feel that ANYTHING covert of sensitive would not have left ANY story at all from Maj Metzger – none, she would have been advised to say NOTHING), so, I will have to keep my little abortion theory going. Blood on feet, yes can happen following abortion along with mental confusion from drugs they give you before, during and after and it would be reason for a large scale story on her part to protect her career, marriage and character. NO, I don’t know if any of what “they” claim to say Jill said is true, but I am only theorizing here, piecing a puzzle. I also feel that if she had a perforated uterus, they would whisk her away immediately for medical attention as well as want her out of the country to avoid questioning by Kryg and embassy officials. A protection they most likely would honor to her given her rank, years of service, etc….When Jessica Lynch was rescued they took her away immediately as well. Perhaps the AF sincerely knew nothing and was only following Jill’s words that she was kidnapped and they wanted to get her out of the area for her own protection and the protection of the AF…..
Regardless, I look forward to more theories…..
Here is why I am pulling for the abortion theory and wanted to share this:
Media QUOTED family who found her, the family she knocked on the door of. They specifically stated: “SHE HAD BLOOD ON HER FEET” and they thought it was strange that she had blood on her feet. Now, I have thought about this – if someone had cut their feet from walking or running, normally, you would hear someone say “Her feet were bloody” or “Her feet were bloody and scrapped up or scratched up” Those two statements:
Her feet were bloody and
She had blood on her feet
mean two different things to me. The first would show being cut up from running, the second could very well be from bleeding (vaginally) due to a botched abortion and blood dripping onto her feet “ON HER FEET”…..the statement by those folks when I first heard it made me think blood had dripped onto her feet, on top of, but not on the bottom of…..I also could not help but think that if she had escaped from somewhere, she would have gone to the first house in the area for help and not had to run or walk a far distance causing bloody feet. I myself (and there must be others in here) have walked some long distances in a beach setting or on the boarder of that setting (on concrete) without ever having them become bloody….Again, I know this could all be hearsay, however, these people were quoted and the I feel there is a difference between blood on feet and her feet were bloody……ok, I could be strecthing and we don’t even know if that quote is true, but there is not much to go by….and the AF and Jill are not talking, which to me, shows something terrible was done – an abortion is something terrible and most certainly would be covered due to many many reasons….
I’m sure that for the family having Jill show up at the house would have been a shocking event. It’s possible that they didn’t necessarily “see” blood on her feet at the time, but did see that she tracked blood through their house when she came inside. That would be an easy thing to pickup after the fact.
Also, if she was wearing clothes to big it’s possible that she was wearing pants that would have most likely covered the “tops” of her feet near the ankle were vaginal bleeding would be most evident. It likely wouldn’t be down by her toes.
Also, let’s remember the people in the farmhouse WERE SPEAKING RUSSIAN. Whatever they said was translated. Blood on feet, blood on bottoms of feet, feet scraped up would all come out about the same depending on the translator. If she had enough vaginal bleeding to get blood on her feet, she was bleeding like STINK and her clothes would have been soaked. Seems like they would have mentioned blood on clothes.
OIG & VR: Not sure if you two are guys or gals, however, you don’t have to bleed like stink and have soaked clothes to have blood on your feet. Ok, without getting overly graphic, women who have heavy periods and have clothes on can sometimes DRIP blood onto their feet, even with pads on if they slide – just the way it is. You don’t have to bleed heavy onto clothes and be soaked. How do we know blood was on her toes???? How do we know she had pants on? Perhaps a large burka type of dress or covering. Even with pants on though, you can still drip blood onto your feet if bleeding heavy vaginally without soaking your clothes. Just what can happen…..Believe me, the stories I could tell of women dripping from just monthly periods nevermind an abortion gone bad (which would create more heavier bleeding)….
All I can say is: When I first heard the first reports that she was found and that couple said “there was blood on her feet” and then hearing the bomb in pocket, note info. – and not believing ANY of that part – my VERY FIRST thought was “this girl’s had an abortion and is desperately trying to make it look like a kidnapping”……
Sorry to say and this is the reaon I immediately thought abortion: Had a friend many years ago who had an abortion, three of us went. It was terrible and I still think of it today. We drove all the way to New York into a seedy type of building to have this done. They gave her valium – that was it – before the procedure. Then, a shot after to prevent infection and some pills to take on the way home. I sat in the backseat with her on the way home. She was bleeding pretty badly, she had sweatpants on. She had blood dripping down her leg, most likely from being dazed from the valium and the pad was not sitting appropriately. Her clothes were NOT soaked, at all. She was completely dazed and disoriented and in PAIN. It was a Friday morning and we told our parents we were going to the beach for the day. Well, we had to call them and say we were staying the weekend and kept her in a hotel room for yes, 3 days, before she felt well enough to face her parents again! They had given her pills (antibiotics) and a nausea medication. So, I was not going to relay this story, but that is why I thought of abortion. Nothing was botched, but an abortion, from my experience here, does not just take an in and out and you are done. A few days is needed to recover even under normal circumstances. And they told her not to do any physical activity for one week….
For the record: They also told her to bring a change of clothing, comfortable and baggy.
Lastly: The girl I am telling you about was our Class President. She was a cheerleader, popular, intelligent, very well respected family, very GOOD girl with a serious boyfriend. We all were the “good girls”. We drove all the way to NY because she did NOT need parental consent there, so we went to all lengths to drive the distance and come up with the beach story. NOONE to this day ever knew what happened. We made a pact to take to our grave. So, the point is: Good people and people with integrity and coming from respectable families do have abortions and will go to great lengths to hide it as it is morally degrading really and something you do NOT want anyone to know. Thus, the AF/military most likely would respect at least that and NEVER say it was an abortion. Plus, the folks at any clinic in Kryg. would be under Confidentiality laws and rules and would not speak to the media/public about it….

Deb, Even if some of us are not posting, we are listening. I decided not to post anymore (this will be an exception) because I didn’t like how some people were coming here making threats to military personnel and stuff. Even though I don’t think we are doing anything wrong, I just decided that I didn’t want to deal with it, so for now on, I’m just a “lurker”. I will still come here to see what is going on, and if I do find out some info, I will post it. I guess, I’m writing this to let you know that you are not alone today, and to let the others know why I’m not here anymore. I think all of you are a great group of very intelligent people. Maybe later, I will change my mind, but for now, I will just be “watching”. Take care you all!

Small correction: I was informed via email by lads in Kyrgyzstan that Jill M. had an abortion.

The doctor who made an abortion made a statement.
I have also bunch of alternative theories. They are flawed in certain extent.
To be honest, for me, the Abortion Theory is the best. Explains a lot of things. No need to use Occam’s razor to cut off excessive bits.
Explains why when she reappeared or disappeared:
– Jill was wearing expensive wedding ring with diamond (excludes robbery)
– She had baggy clothes on her
– She had large shoulder bag
– She did no want to see her husband
– She had a blood on her feet
– She appeared to be drunk but no smell of alcohol
– She did not run a marathon
– etc.
Kuba: I’m with ya. Was there really a doctor who said he performed the abortion though? I thought they were under strict patient/doctor confidentiality rules/laws, etc…I guess in order to save his country, gov. citizens from the backlash of possible riots, perhaps he did speak.
To see your above facts in simple form makes perfect sense. The not wanting to see her husband got me too. My friend who had her abortion wanted NOTHING to do with her boyfriend following this procedure. It was extremely emotional for her and she felt terribly guilty for what she had done….

Actually, Sickening, if you had even negligible emotional and intellectual intelligence you would have noticed his post was sarcastically asking you to find yourself another blog. In a previous post, you asked if we even knew what reality around us…wasn’t it YOU who referenced Arsenio Hall? Um, hello circa 1990 are you listening to MC Hammer as you post as well? Perhaps this is where you find your infatuation with Jill – you are now in love with her bi-level mullet and are hoping that her celebrity status will make it the “it” cut. Is this what you wanted? Did you want a personal attack as you personally attacked me simply because of an opinion? Please remember as you keep transgressing from the topic at hand (Jill) neither Deb nor myself are the subject here. Neither of us has called international attention resulting in the demoralizing and (to you) offensive posts in bloggosphere.

What exactly about my posts (or Deb’s) have made you come to the conclusion that we are “slutty” or “scorned”? I have given you examples of why I know Jill to be promiscuous, the expample was not from hearsay it was my own personal experience. Which, btw, I could prove with photos and emails she herself sent me but if my written posts offended you those would surely send you over the edge. Now you have labeled me as a slut. Okay, based on what? Let me assure you I have never and will never be disloyal or unfaithful – both in my relationship and in relationships with others. I assure you that I CONFIRM that anyone I start an intimate relationship with is SINGLE, it is pretty easy really! Then again, it is easy for me because I have never been in the situation where a guy does not want to be in a relationship with me; must be my redeeming qualities and the fact that I ,b>keep my panties on. I have been lucky enough never to “come second” to anyone because I am of the “long-term” classification, not a one-night beer goggle fling. I will let Deb defend herself in the “slutty” accusation if she wishes – but she has thus far proven herself to me as an intelligent woman with strong convictions. Her only “sin” on this blog is having an opinion which you yourself do not hold.
You have also come to the conclusion that both Deb and I are scorned past friends of Jill? Have you read any of my posts? I knew Jill, yes, but she is hardly the type of girl I would ever befriend. Different personalities and interests, I guess. I am fairly selective with the company I keep. I demand a bit of class. As far as thinking that I am “scorned” – not sure how I would prove I am not. I would be willing to post my picture and profile online and let folks take a poll as to whether or not they think I look “scorned”. I could put on my web camera at home so you could make sure it is me. I have nothing to hide. It might be worth it simply to hush you so that we may get on to the subject at hand. Kyrgyz TV broadcasted that Jill was cheating on her husband, got pregnant and had to do an abortion. Remember, that only 2 days were left at that point of time before joining her husband.
The doctor from Issyk-Ata district clinic gave testaments about abortion surgery performed on Jill Metzger. This was broadcasted by NTS TV channel in Kyrgyzstan.

The police in Kyrgyzstan aren’t the only ones who question U.S. Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger’s story that she was kidnapped at a store, held three days, and then escaped.
U.S. defense officials tell ABC News that serious inconsistencies have emerged in the investigation of the strange disappearance of Air Force Major Jill Metzger. Maj. Metzger vanished without a trace while shopping at a store in Kyrgyzstan on Sept. 5 until she just as mysteriously reappeared three days later.
Sources tell ABC News that surveillance video taken in the store contradict the Major’s story that she was abducted after someone put a hard object in her back pocket along with a note saying that it was an explosive. The video indicates that she left the store of her own free will, and alone, according to sources who have seen the video.
As investigators gather all the facts surrounding the case, they are exploring the possibility that she was attempting to flee a recent marriage, according to one source close to the investigation. When she was found, her hair had been cropped short and dyed.
Happy to be free? Meanwhile, Metzger yesterday released an incredibly vague statement. What’s missing from the statement? Any mention that she is happy to be “free.” Maybe she doesn’t feel especially thrilled to be free because she never was captive.
“Right now I’m trying to focus on healing myself mentally and physically,” Metzger said in a news release from U.S. Air Forces in Europe. “I’m healthy and recovering, and looking very forward to heading back to the states to see my family. I appreciate everyone’s understanding in respecting my privacy while I rest and try to get through this.”
Perhaps she’s another “runaway bride.” This is the most likely explanation. On April 8, she married Air Force Capt. Joshua Mayo, but the two have been apart for all but 10 days since then because of their military careers. He is based in Florida. When she disappeared Sept. 5, she was three days from the end of her four-month deployment in Kyrgyzstan. They had scheduled a honeymoon in Jamaica for Sept. 24.
No questions, please. She disappeared from her taxpayer-paid job for three days, and now she asks us to respect her privacy. In other words, don’t ask questions because I might have to tell you I ran off on my own to avoid going home to the husband I hardly know. Don’t ask questions because I might have to tell you I sent a lot of people on an expensive wild goose chase.
Jill Metzger’s father, John Metzger, says she really was kidnapped, but:
He said she has not yet provided him with details of her ordeal.
“We haven’t really pushed that button yet,” he said.
Obviously, her father doesn’t want to make her lie, so he’s avoiding the big questions. My guess is, she’ll eventually tell the truth. She’ll have to.

For someone who’s not desparate and lonely she sure seems to spend A LOT of time on this site talking to anyone who will listen (which as far as I can tell is mostly her…and I guess me since I’m typing this.
