Airforce Major Jill Metzger, stationed at Manas Air Base, was shopping in a Kyrgyzstan mall with friends when she disappeared.
From CNN:
(CNN) — A U.S. Air Force officer is missing after a trip to a shopping mall in Kyrgyzstan, a U.S. military statement said Wednesday.
Maj. Jill Metzger, with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing, was last seen shopping at the Zum Shopping Center with others from the Manas Air Base when she disappeared on Tuesday, the statement said.
“Major Metzger was last seen wearing a green sweater and blue jeans,” the statement said.
“She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is in excellent athletic condition.”
Military Web sites describe Metzger as a top-flight marathoner.
Both the Kyrgyz police and the US military are searching for her:
BISHKEK, September 6, 2006 (RFE/RL) — Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry and National Security Service say they have launched a joint operation to locate the U.S. air servicewoman who disappeared on September 5 in Bishkek.
The woman, who has been identified as Major Jill Metzger, is working at the U.S. Manas military air base, near Bishkek.
Manas air base public affairs officer Ann Carpenter told RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service that Metzger disappeared while shopping at Bishkek’s main department store (TsUM) with other U.S. base members.
“The [U.S.] 376th Air Expeditionary Wing base officials are working with the U.S. Embassy and local officials to locate the servicemember as soon as possible,” Carpenter added.
The U.S. Embassy in Bishkek has issued pictures of a blonde woman as part of the search operation.
Let’s hope she’s found quickly.
Update: Maj. Metzger was supposed to return home on Thursday and went to the mall to buy souvenirs for her family.

Well with that added wikithings ought to get right interesting now!

You should know by now that internet is full of liars and “coulda, woulda, shoulda” beens with a few legit players mixed in. If what you are saying about yourself is true (I personally accept your story), there is no way to prove it on the forum and it just leads to more bickering and ‘one-ups-man-ship’. (“oh yeah, well I’m a SEAL… oh yeah, well I’m a super SEAL/ CCT combo..etc).
I’m sure I could name drop and verify that you are a member of that community but for all the folks not associated with the operations world, the legit operators just blend in with the x-box warriors who get off on playing Rainbox Six eight hours a day.
Bottom line: don’t worry too much about defending yourself… none of us deserve it if its true and none of us want it if it isn’t.
Here’s a name: did you know Paul Soomsawasdi? (CCT).
oops, old news and a repeat. Sorry Kuba- but I found the last statement really interesting. I didn’t realize that it had been circulated in the news over there.

yes, that bit in wiki was added just a few hours ago
🙂
I wonder if it was someone from here that did it (ip = 207.162.9.2)
Posted by: lurker at September 20, 2006 01:50 AM
Well, if it was posted by someone from here… it ranks right up there with a Jill Metzger move… know what I mean?
I’m not sure what you mean… a hoax? You think the entry is bogus (no local abortion story reported)?
I guess we’ll have to wait for a local confirmation
Kuba: Any substance to this?
BTW, the IP is Canadian.
IP is from Universite du Quebec UQUEBEC-CA

“Kuba- but I found the last statement really interesting. I didn’t realize that it had been circulated in the news over there.”
I was communicated via email that abortion story was broadcasted on Kyrgyz TV, which turned out to be NTS Bishkek TV station. http://www.nts.kg
I am currently working abroad, and not in Kyrgyzstan. (BTW not in Canada 🙂 )
I asked Gogi to get a videotape from NTS onto the web. Gogi seems to be disappearing from this blog.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jill_Metzger
“Subsequent news reported in the Kyrgyz Republic but not in the U.S. claimed that Metzger was pregnant at the time of her disappearance and that her disappearance was related somehow to hiding her pregnancy from her fiance or husband”
Well, the statement seems to have been removed. Sorry, don’t know how to tell who removed it. Guess it was bogus. Thought we were on to something.
Well off to Moody for the day. Can’t wait to see if anyone is talking yet.
Are there medical experts out there?
Some doctor has made a claim that Jill is not alright, looking at her photo on the top of this blog. Her face seems to be yellowishly tainted, especially areas on forehead, chin and neck.
The doctor said to me that this might be a symptom of her:
1) Being poisoned
2) Being a drug addict
3) Hepatitis
4) Being pregnant
What do you reckon?
Kuba:
I’ve seen this same photo with reddish tints. I think it’s just a funny coloring on the photo.
The main reason for a person’s skin to turn yellow is if they’re very jaundiced from liver failure. That could occur with hepatitis, but before the skin turns yellow the whites of the eyes get VERY yellow. The whites of her eyes look normal. She’s not jaundiced. You can actually tint your skin yellow/orangish by eating too many carrots. This happens to some vegetarians. It’s not a bad thing.
She’s not a drug addict. The military does random urine drug testing and would catch a drug ADDICT without too much problem, particularly if they were addicted enough to show changes in their face.
Pregnancy can sometimes make the face look “fuller”, but I’ve never heard of pregnancy making the face look yellow.
The only thing I’d say about her photo was already mentioned here. She’s a distance runner and very thin. Her cheeks are sunken in because of her thinness. You can also make out quite a bit of hair on her cheeks, which may also be from hormonal changes due to very low body fat.
The yellowish taint seen on forehead in photo is very inconclusive. The discoloration could be lighting or printing process, or even result of applying dye to hair and the subsequent washing of the dye out of the hair.
Practicing medicine from a photograph is like playing Russian roulette, you don’t know where you don’t know for sure the cause of the skin discoloration is from a medical condition.
I seemed to have missed some great posts. Wiz, I always smile, even smirk when I read your posts.
It would be a pretty simple explanation: Metzger leaves mall to go to abortion clinic, abortion perforates uterus, she is still in what seems like a drunken stupor from valium (which they do, in fact, give some pretty potent drugs for an abortion). She KNOWS she cannot call base for help (her career would be gone instantly), she leaves clinic, walks to a house (blood on feet could be from perforated uterus), asks for help, WANTS TO CONTACT EMBASSSY and not Manas. Potent drugs given during abortion and after CAN induce some pretty strange words (like being under laughing gas and anesthesia pre and post surgery). She is whisked away to Landstuhl for immediate help with a perforated uterus, bingo, end of story……large bag seen with her in mall contains change of clothes (she was in clothes too large for her, which, from what I know, they tell you to wear so that you may be comfortable following an abortion as you will BLEED heavy for a few days, and dyed her hair to make it look like a kidnapping….anyone, including herself, could have bought hair dye…..In my opinion, she obviously had so much going for her, there would be NO reason for her to risk leaving the Tsum to visit a friend, someone could have come to the Tsum, rather than her risking the consequences. She HAD to leave to seek an abortion though, they don’t come to you. This would be a HUGE reason for her to go AWOL, to protect her career, her marriage, her reputation, her family from being embarrassed and giving her a difficult time….for a woman with her type A personality and need to compete, an abortion would be the perfect reason for her to go AWOL…..she did NOT want her husband in Germany because she was embarrassed and just wanted to be alone. They sent him anyway knowing he should be there. If there was something between the two of them, they would NOT have sent him……A newly married woman who was just abducted or in a bad situation WOULD TRULY AND SINCERELY WANT HER HUSBAND WITH HER FOLLOWING AN INCIDENT LIKE THAT. She would NOT, however, following an abortion…..just the female psyche of guilt and stay away from me following such a shameful situation.
Anemia can cause yellowing of the skin. Pernicious Anemia as well and Uremia. All of these conditions can cause “mental confusion”.
Uremia can be caused by a high protein diet (pre race goal) an increase in protein, drugs such as tetracycline (which might have been given following an abortion). Also, I have read on several sites that abortion itself can causse Uremia and Anemia……Yes, sticking with the abortion theory….

Very true but there has only been about 4000 PJs since 1947 and the data base is 99% accurate. There are means to verify such claims. I do not know Paul Soomsawdai, however if you want verification that he is or isn’t I can get it. I could get verification if you asked if he was a SEAL too, but it would take a bit longer.
Those wanting verification of my identity and background need only e-mail the USAF Pararescue Association with a cut and paste of any of my posts and ask the writer be identified and the verification will be provided or you can always go to the PJ school and ask the same.
Johca—
You are right! And I’m glad that these elite communities have collectively created a process to filter out the frauds… and hopefully expose them. I’ve got no reason to suspect anything other than you are legit…so thanks for being there for guys like me.
No need to verify Paul Soomsawasdi: he was my roommate in college. We both initially lost our pilot slots in college and both got interested in CCT. I got my slot back and lost interest (but certainly not the respect) but Paul was born for that job. He also did CIOR and CISM… I trained with him for a while but just didn’t have “it” in me to train enough to be able to compete at that level. Paul was killed in the MC-130 crash in Puerto Rico in ’02. At his funeral in Arlington, there was a “sea” of Red and Maroon berets… didn’t know if you were one of them.
vr
Took this out of a medical site:
This fact was especially true in a case where extreme septic absorption after a badly conducted abortion caused acute nephritis and suppression of the urine. Uremia supervened, with delirium and mild convulsions.
Uremia could have caused Jill’s confusion, thus, incoherent and obvious bull oney story….as well as yellowing of her skin….
IKJ:
Sorry to hear about your friend, Paul. I recall the story of the crash in 02′.
Johca: Thanks for being around…..
Deb:
Good points but I think that photo was taken before the whole trance, bomb, combat, escape ordeal… aka desert, abort, return & lie.
IKJ:
Sorry to hear about your friend, Paul. I recall the story of the crash in 02′.

Deb G: Thanks.
Well guys and gals, this has been fun. It will be interesting to hear the final outcome, if we ever do. We’ve spun a lot of theories. The ones that seem to me to fit what we’ve heard the best:
1. AWOL for unclear reason, snatched and held, escape, confused/panicky story
2. AWOL for abortion, complication, return & lie
If #2 she came up with the lamest story EVER.
Our mission now should be to talk this news feature up to anyone who will listen. Write to the newspapers, write to Leila Saralayeva (the local Bishkek reporter, can be reached via info@ap.org), write to the Daily Dispatch (an on-line newspaper from the Metzgers’ local area, can be reached here: http://www.hendersondispatch.com/), put stuff back in Wikipedia if possible (that was a BRILLIANT idea, whoever did that), write to Air Force publications, just get public interest going in this story. We aren’t going to figure it out on this blog, and we aren’t going to hear about it if the story is allowed to die.
VR–
You nailed it… I think the AF would prefer this story just fade away (as would Jill). I’ll be happy to press the issue.
“She KNOWS she cannot call base for help (her career would be gone instantly)” Unfortunately this speculation of calling the U.S. Embassy rather than the base not the only reason or even the better reason for calling the Embassy rather than the Base. Had she been found by local law enforcement unconscious or dead that agency would most likely call the Embassy rather than the base. The base commander and the military lacks jurisdiction outside of the installation unless a designated area of military operations is declared. Jurisdiction for responsibility for dealing with situations is the U.S. Ambassador and Embassy in country. Military jurisdiction and authority to act is limited by Status of Forces Agreement (If one is in place) or other agreements, or declaration of area and period of military operations (this typical means combat operations of some sort, but here can be other reasons, but I also doubt the Major’s adduction was sufficient).
In similar situation in this particular country, presuming the abduction and escape is true, I would be calling the Embassy and not the base. Heck, with the disorientation it can be argued the Major couldn’t even know if she was in the same country anymore.
Regarding the need to get her out of country fast I can make a great speculative argument that it was done so AF and OSI would be doing the inquiry rather than the U.S. Embassy, State Department, and some other Federal Law Enforcement agency.
IKJ: Not sure of the pic you are referring to. I think I just assumed it was the pic of her getting off the plane where her mother half handedly attempting to hand roses to her (which, she literally just held her arm up for Jill to take them as in complete disgust of her actions – she did not actually HAND them to her). She looked pretty well, ill looking in that photo with yellowy skin….I thought that was the one being referred to….
IKJ:
Sorry to hear about your friend, Paul. I recall the crash in 02′ and others. If I was on active duty at the time or at the funeral I would have recalled the name.
Johca: What you just relayed puts an alert to me that she was, in fact, COHERENT enough and intelligent enough to KNOW to ask for the embassy and not the base. So, all the speculations about confusion and being disoriented might not even be true then, was she acting and pretending to be confused – probably, if she was making up an abduction story. Perhaps her false story was relayed exactly the way folks over there are portraying it and Jill did, indeed, make up the facts (bomb in pocket, trance, note, etc…). Why would the people who found her and took her in make up a story and lie? They have no reason to….Now, I know I know, people can get a story wrong and facts twisted, but that is some severely twisted facts. I could not evem pull those facts out of my hat if I wanted to….
yup, sticking to the abortion gone bad theory and trying to cover her ars…..let’s face it, if you NEEDED to make up an abduction story to save your career, marriage, character, you would certainly not just show up at someone’s door, unscathed and say I have been kidnapped and escaped….you would go through some extreme to make it look that way – like the Runaway Bride did, even cutting her own hair to make it look like she was abducted….
You guys, that photo was taken months ago. You are going down yet another rabbit hole.
laughing lurker: If you had any clue as to what you are talking about – there was a photo printed – in newspapers, of Jill coming back from Germany last week and her mother handing her flowers….perhaps you have some info. to offer and not just “sit in YOUR rabbit hole”……
I call bullshit on this one:
You’re the same guy that put out the unlinked, unattributed and non-verified “pregnancy” rumor, aren’t you? And look at all the fun gossip that got squeezed out of that one! Yeehaw!
But Debbie dear, if you read for comprehension, you’d know that Kuba was referring to the photo at the top of this blog.
Deb G: My mistake, I was referring to the pic at the top of this post.
Johca: copy that… I’ve probably worked w/ some folks you know (if not you personally)… problem is, I don’t usually get to the “let’s get to know each other” stage when we are working (JFX, real world etc).
it’s bed time… see ya later.
Copied from mil discussion board:
OK Boys and Girls, here is an update to this story:
I ran into a fella on 9/18 that had just returned from his deployment to Manas. Of course I casually asked “do you know what happened to that major that disappeared?”
Incredulously, this fella actually knew her and was deployed with her. This is HIS story (and I can neither confirm nor deny these details):
Female major went out on the town shopping with approx. 3-4 other companions. All were wearing civies, and she was wearing large amounts of flashy jewelry to include large necklace, ring, bracelet, etc., and a large purse. During the shopping trip, she got separated from the rest of the group. At this time she was nabbed by a group of people and kidnapped.
Apaprently (fella quoted ongoing OSI investigation) the kidnappers were in cahoots with local organized crime and keyed in on her apparent wealth (not knowing she was AF) and upon realizing they had inadvertently kidnapped an AF Officer, they realized how serious this now was. At that time they tried to alter her identity with a haircut and a hair dying. As they realized that this would bring about a large beat-down by the government, they released her.
She is a marathon runner and claims that her marathon training discipline helped her get through this ordeal.
One last detail – now, no one is allowed off-base EVER. Punish the masses!
Enjoy!
Yo!! LURKER
The whole thing about the pregnacy bit is not intended to be a rumor.. IF YOU READ FOR CONTENT and CONTEXT.. you would realize that these are Theories being thrown out to see which one of the theories holds to the litmus test.
So far… I still hold to the abortion theory.. We’ll see.
more gossip———-
That I don’t believe… SIMPLE REASON… everyone is told not to be flashing jewelery, money, or anything that would attract the petty thieves..
But I would be interested in reading the piece where you got it…
johca, you said-
No but you got my 2002/2003 location nailed. I do perhaps know who you are talking about (a former team mate who took a 50 cal round to the right arm) if it was a civilian run course.

**********
Sounds like might be your friend, it was a civ. course and he had something wrong with arm. He didn’t give any personal info, basically said:
you want to learn how to stay alive, then listen, if not, GTFO….He did say he had bagged the BIG 8 while in AK….
He did know what he was talking about . While it wasn’t part of the course, I don’t think there was weapon invented that he didn’t have the specs on inside that head…
True nice guy….most of that type I’ve met were truly nice guys until called upon to do their job…antithesis of the Rainbow 6 ‘heros’…
He used the term “P&S boys” (point and shoot) in reference to some of the lesser trained military types…
Sound like your friend?
more gossip:
Fascinating. It sort of makes weird sense. One WOULDN’T know she was an AF officer if one saw her on the street, she’d just look like a very petite, cute turista (or whatever they call them there, turistyeva). Once her AF ID was discovered, there would be consternation on the part of the kidnapper. Maybe THEY dyed her hair to try to make it look like a bridenapping, throw the police off the trail…
If this guy from Manas is talking, where are all the other stories from Manas? C’mon, they may not be able to get off base but they all have e-mail accounts. Military people with friends who know friends in Manas or recently returned from Manas: what are they all saying???
Supposedly there’s video footage of Jill getting into a cab by herself, but perhaps the video camera in the store foyer was all there was. You couldn’t tell what happened once she got outside, other than Santa Claus waiting to greet her. PErhaps she just stepped out to get some fresh air and get a glimpse of scenic Bishkek? And was “assisted” into a cab?
V “ketamine” R
Have we all forgotten that Jill made a statement that her necklace was stolen, but oddly not her ring? Wouldn’t “organized crime” steal a diamond ring? Hmmmmm. Not making sense.
In addition, remember the HBA theory I had about her hair dye??? The same holds true with accessories. In addition, the original “missing” announcement showed her wearing a green sweater set holding an oakleaf – (let me know if you need the link to the pic)they said she had been wearing the SAME outfit the day of the abduction. She was not wearing a necklace or flashy accessories of any type in the picture. I don’t think she would have added the accessories for a shopping trip…unless of course she turned into “sporty spice” overnight. Hardly unlikely.
As far as the drugs/yellow skin picture – read up in my post about exercise “Amenorrhea”. She shows signs of the physical features of someone having amenorrhea – the excess hair, the sallow skin which is one of the reasons I don’t think she was pregnant. I am sticking with the blood doping theory. She was given a homologous transfusion and had a bad reaction – it can send you into shock. She had to stay at the clinic or wherever and when she was well enough to come back she died her hair. Maybe one of the blood bags broke on her feet a voila! Bloody feet. Mystery solved : )
“Sounds like might be your friend, it was a civ. course and he had something wrong with arm. He didn’t give any personal info, basically said:

Deb G., Happy and others. What little I know about you, I find sickening.
You know nothing about the individuals in this situation. You know nothing about the investigation that has been completed. In essence you know nothing, and your weak attempts at logical thought only make you come off as warped.
Is it really that hard to follow? Abduction. Loud response including closing the border. Trafficking no longer easy so they let her go. She’s found in bad shape.
BTW–> Anyone ever tried to run over 20 miles when you can hardly walk? Anyone? Didn’t think so.

A reasonable explanation except the means, technique, and process to isolate and gain control of a crime victim of opportunity does discredit it. I also doubt anybody not being in the OSI or key leader in the wing being able to quote an OSI investigation where there is no official news releases being made. For moral purposes some explanation would, however, would be made to justify the no longer being able to go off base for MWR purposes’. The individual also just returned from Manas, considering travel time from Manas to wherever in CONUS it is highly probable he knows nothing factual of what the inquiry is discovering or not discovering.
Sickening:
That wasn’t YOU just now, on a blog, THEORIZING, without knowning any facts, was it? Say it ain’t so.
————–Sickening
I went to see my doctor the other day for chest pain. I told him that every time I raise my right arm I get chest pain…. Know what he said… don’t raise the arm…
It may serve you well to just not be lurking in here.. Then you wouldn’t get that sickening feeling.
Aside from that… and again.. I’m falling into redundancy…
1.. she did something she wasn’t supposed to do – Separate from the group
2. She is captured on camera leaving the store by herself
3. Taxi driver IDs her as a fare.
4. She tells a Whopper of a story Bomb, Note, Trance, Escape, Evasion.. etc
5. Military swoops her out of country within a couple of hours (THAT ALONE SHOULD SPEAK VOLUMES to anyone familiar with protocol on evac out of a theater)
6. Investigation by local police is thwarted by her premature departure..
NOW… there are others here who may wish to add to this list based on knowledge and logic of military ops and SOP.. When that is compiled, read it and commit it to memory…. It’s kinda’ like a puzzle – the picture says one thing… but the pieces say something completely different…
Your emotional thoughts on this have very little bearing on the PUZZLE and the PIECES…
Thank you….
Meeting at 1400… Poll to be taken!!!!
VR – couldn’t have said it better myself!
Sickening,
Because you are apparently the first to have access to the said “closed investigation” could you please enlighten us with some of the facts that led to our warped theories:
– Are the kidnappers gypsies and how did they get the trance-letter and mini-bomb into Jill’s pocket?
– Was it the kidnappers wanting Jill to use the payphone and did they give her the change to use it, or did she have to pay?
– What were they hoping to get from their traffic attempts? Didn’t know there was a large demand for 33 year old mullet wearing American women…
JMRO… Joint Medical Regulating Office.
This office is responsible of coordinating MedEvac from/to/or within any theater of operations.
Somebody downrange has a MedEvac (going to the hospital is a MedEvac.. folks), they must contact JMRO for coordination between AE Squadron and the accepting hospital. Facility wanting to evac a person must contact the appropriate medical POC, POC contacts JMRO with details on patient, JMRO contacts hospital and accepting physician, Hospital says “OK” send em up… AE Squadron is notified by JMRO of patient to be picked up….
You see…. you don’t just decide… “AHhhh, well, lemme see here, we could send her to XYZ hosp”.. It’s not a simple task.. .
The fact that it took place within hours is SIGNIFICANT!!! You get that?!!!? Significant! In other words… IT MEANS SOMETHING. She was wisked away for a reason!!!
Here’s another clue……
Psych patients DO NOT —– repeat —— DO NOT fall under the category of URGENT Air Evac…
If this Major was suffering from BiPolar disorder and Major Depression… with suicidal tendencies… she would have to wait till the next ROUTINE flight going out… THIS WAS AN URGENT A/E….
Any Questions??
OK… please have a seat…
PREPARE for poll!
Wiz,
Could you give us some examples of who would qualify for URGENT Air EVAC?
– Someone w/blisters from running 20 miles?
– A trance-like zombie?
– Someone traumatized by a bad haircut?
– Someone making a false official statement to a host nation police investigation?
**Is the poll 1400 Eastern Time Zone?
Quoted… straight out of the manual!!

Over-classification must be avoided to prevent unnecessary hardship to patients on flights that might be diverted. Proper evaluation can also avoid unnecessary, costly, hazardous, or special flights
a. Urgent. For an emergency case which must be moved as soon as possible to save life or limb, or to prevent complication of a serious illness. Psychiatric or terminal cases with a very short life expectancy are not considered urgent
b. Priority. For patients requiring prompt medical care not available locally. Such patients must be evacuated within 24 hours and delivered with the least possible delay
c. Routine. For patients who should be evacuated up within 72 hours and moved on routine or scheduled flights

Why would ANYONE want to come on here and put down or comment against someone blogging here – it’s a blog for goodness sake. Go fight horse slaughter or save the whales or try lurking around the serial killer sites or pedophile sites, but why come here and tell people they are sickening?? I would think there are a million and one other sites to call people sickening (like the ones mentioned earlier, but if you need some more, I can send you a list to keep you busy)
Take your hypocrite attitude and shooooeee
Wiz, VR, Warped Person #1: LOL I can see a new blog now: “Why do bloggers blog about others whose actions are pretty crappy”
Well then, abortion gone bad and perforated uterus would be reason to EVAC out immediately then – so she would not bleed to death or die from potential infections…..
Maybe she hurt her hand when she attacked and beat her kidnapper, errr, one of them – while the others were watching T.V. and did not hear the scuffle or see her leave or see her incoherent and in a state of confusion, bleeding, etc….thus, they had to take her out immediately for a limb injury 🙂
sorry, I am not warped person 2, that would make me warped person 3… 🙂
So… My Warped friend.. hope that answers the question…
Blisters, ingrown toenails, bunions.. do not qualify
Trance-like zombies.. falls under psych problems
Bad hair cuts… unless performed by Geronimo.. NO!
Incoherent, false, imaginary, or gibberish statements…NO!
Abortions gone bad… Hmmmmm… lemme see.. check back with me on that!! I’ll have to do some research!!!
Just a FYI fact:
Jessica Lynch was flown to Germany (landstuhl) 24 HRS after they rescued her. She had two broken legs.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/02/sprj.irq.lynch.rescue/index.html
Strange how the article does not state “alleged prisoner” or that Jessica “just wants her privacy”
