Airforce Major Jill Metzger, stationed at Manas Air Base, was shopping in a Kyrgyzstan mall with friends when she disappeared.
From CNN:
(CNN) — A U.S. Air Force officer is missing after a trip to a shopping mall in Kyrgyzstan, a U.S. military statement said Wednesday.
Maj. Jill Metzger, with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing, was last seen shopping at the Zum Shopping Center with others from the Manas Air Base when she disappeared on Tuesday, the statement said.
“Major Metzger was last seen wearing a green sweater and blue jeans,” the statement said.
“She has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is in excellent athletic condition.”
Military Web sites describe Metzger as a top-flight marathoner.
Both the Kyrgyz police and the US military are searching for her:
BISHKEK, September 6, 2006 (RFE/RL) — Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry and National Security Service say they have launched a joint operation to locate the U.S. air servicewoman who disappeared on September 5 in Bishkek.
The woman, who has been identified as Major Jill Metzger, is working at the U.S. Manas military air base, near Bishkek.
Manas air base public affairs officer Ann Carpenter told RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service that Metzger disappeared while shopping at Bishkek’s main department store (TsUM) with other U.S. base members.
“The [U.S.] 376th Air Expeditionary Wing base officials are working with the U.S. Embassy and local officials to locate the servicemember as soon as possible,” Carpenter added.
The U.S. Embassy in Bishkek has issued pictures of a blonde woman as part of the search operation.
Let’s hope she’s found quickly.
Update: Maj. Metzger was supposed to return home on Thursday and went to the mall to buy souvenirs for her family.

Actually as a matter of fact, it does matter (from a legal stand point). Just because it’s available to the public doesn’t make it a public forum. As for promotion boards, you’ve got to be kidding; not even going to touch that one. And as for your soap box, it’s time to get down. Neither I nor anyone here who wears a uniform needs a lecture about what we have chosen to defend. I know it well and have been doing so since the Reagan administration. I have chosen to leave my own opinions with regard to this case to myself but have seen nothing that crosses any lines from anyone who has presented themselves as troop. The only ones, aside from me, who have taken issue with you, have told you that they are either not in the military or are former.
OIG: I basically agree with your point, but also think your point has now been somewhat overstated — I doubt you are going to make any more progress with the “moral high ground” dialog. Those that care have heard you, but the pit-bulls in here are going to keep chewing as long as you keep responding/ defending (hey man, go find another bar, you don’t belong).
Just my two…
lurker: good point, was starting to sort of feel that way to me as well. i’m done with that line….
This “something really did happen” theory also makes sense of a comment her father-in-law (the OSI officer) made that struck me as odd. He commented during the interview AFTER she’d been found and taken to Germany that she was a “very naive 33 year old woman”, “very trusting”, “never saw bad in anyone”. This didn’t seem like a statement I expected about
a.) a person who was truly kidnapped in the way she said (bomb, trance, 4 people). I would have expected a “she’s very strong” kind of description.
NOR did it make sense for:
b.) a person who had just fouled up in the biggest way possible, lied her way out of trouble when nothing at all bad had really happened. I would have expected an OSI officer to steer clear of that whole situation entirely, not even make a statement.
If something had gone bad, and she was truly kidnapped in any way fashione or form, why would the AF not say a word??? You would think SOMETHING would be offered to the public, the media, someone if she was, in fact, caused harm following a just a bad call on her part…..
I’m thinking abortion gone bad, bad doctors, not truly credentialed or REAL doctors, but taking money for abortions even though they are not qualified….just a theory…..the whole hair dyed thing just makes no sense unless she was trying to cover herself as an abduction victim….
I think the AF hasn’t said a word because they want to make absolutely sure they’re saying the right word when they say it. They probably had the same reaction we have had to her story– she obviously made up at least PART of the story, so the whole thing is suspect. And I still believe her initial personal covert operation was something quite embarrassing to her and the govt. All of us military types know that the wheels of justice turn very SSSSLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLYYYYYYY in the USAF. How many of you have known of scandals on your base that took well over a year to be resolved? Yup, I’m raising my hand.
It also becomes very tricky when (if) they DO announce that she was a victim of some kind, because then the Kyrgyz people are going to be furious that THEY weren’t warned there’s a kidnapper/rapist/whatever in their midst. Why weren’t their police allowed to conduct a proper investigation, etc? How dare the US cover this story up, putting Kyrgyz women at risk?
VR: “Why weren’t their police allowed to conduct a proper investigation, etc? How dare the US cover this story up, putting Kyrgyz women at risk?”
I think the fact the AF is not allowing Jill to assist in the investigation pretty much confirms they know there was no abduction.
I find it interesting the press initially jumped to the “runaway bride” theory. Perhaps they were given a tip right away that was suddenly hushed. Shrinks posting yesterday that Jill might have been fleeing harassment made me start connecting the dots between bits of information stated from press as well as what we have theorized here. What if Jill had done something unprofessional which would have resulted in damage to her military career and someone was blackmailing her? Perhaps Jill’s indiscretions were documented (cough…pictures/emails) and were used against her? Maybe she was disciplining an Airman and they retaliated with proof of her own imprudence? Jill would have had punitive authority as a Commander. Just a thought
VR: I agree. If ANY of her story were true – the AF would make it a point to WARN others of possible abductions, kidnappings, etc…they KNOW it is NOT true. I have a feeling, as you said, they are piecing it all together, viewing video cameras, going over cell phone records, her computer at Manas, people who might have seen or talked to her, etc….then, and maybe only then, will we know anything or something at all….
I still don’t think though, even if she did have an abortion, that the AF will EVER come out and say that. That is, as I have said before, a VERY personal situation which could lead to severe protesting and rioting of the abortion part, killing of a fetus, military base Officer getting pregnant, etc…..I just wish we knew SOMETHING….Alicia, from that newspaper, said she would email me if she hears of anything legitimate….not sure why she would want to email me that, but I will certainly welcome the info!
Had a thought about the AF sending her husband to Landstuhl w/o her consent.
Initially, IF they weren’t sure she was going to be able to competently consent to treatment it might have been a factor. It could at least be a CYA for the medical/psych folks. He’s her next of kin from the minute they said “I do.”
I realize you can’t sue the USAF for malpractice, but with her disappearance out there in the press, they may have wanted to have the “i’s” dotted, “t’s” crossed. Also, it may have been easier to “control the story” with both of them in the same place.
Hypothetically, if I had a patient I thought might be suicidal that I wasn’t familiar with, I’d want someone who might have some insight into him/her where I could talk face to face if at all possible. That is, IF I was pretty sure it wasn’t a “problem” relationship. Haven’t seen anyone claiming anything was an issue between the two of them.
Anyone know how soon after they flew her out of Manas they got him on a flight to Germany?
BTW, if anyone cares, civilian, currently self employed, although much FORMER association with the USAF, although never in uniform myself.
OK, I have jumped on the “something bad really happened” bandwagon today. It makes everything fit for me EXCEPT the video of her parents taken right after she was reported missing. (Why weren’t they more obviously worried? Does her Dad deserve an Academy Award?)
I now think the very implausibility of her story makes it likely she “wasn’t in her right mind” when the police interviewed her. My 8-yr-old could have come up with a better story. I think she was panicked and therefore somewhat incoherent, and I also think there was a language barrier that made it very difficult for everyone there. It’s hard enough to understand an incoherent person when you speak their language.
Furthermore, she may have been drugged, if in fact she had been held against her will. A common drug a criminal might be able to get his hands on is ketamine. It has veterinary uses and is probably fairly easily available there. It’s used recreationally here. It can be injected intramuscularly, so doesn’t require any special medical knowledge. If you give enough, it renders someone unconscious. It’s hard to kill someone with ketamine, so you don’t have to be too exact with the doses. Here’s a description from the web about how ketamine works:
“Ketamine puts the user in a dissociated state, meaning that they are less connected to both a sense of self and the reality around them. If a large enough amount is taken, the user may go into or through a “K-hole”, a state of wildly dissociated experience in which other worlds or dimensions that are difficult to describe with language are said to be perceived, all the while being completely unaware of one’s individual identity or the outside world. A user may feel as though his or her perception is located so deep inside the mind that the real world seems distant (hence the use of a “hole” to describe the experience). Some users may not remember this part of the experience after regaining consciousness, in the same way that a person may forget a dream. The “re-integration” process is slow, and the user gradually becomes aware of surroundings. At first, a user may not remember his or her own name, or even know that they are human, or what that means. Movement is extremely difficult, and a user may not be aware that they have a body at all.”
Tomorrow, another theory.
VR
How would that explain her leaving the TSUM alone and without force?
Also, if movement is extremely difficult I doubt she would be able to run to safety.
I still think the AF would have made it clear there WAS an abduction.
VR: lol, tom. another theory….
I can’t help but think the AF would openly relay a true kidnapping or any type of abduction to the media – especially at this point. Every story thus far has been displayed on news screens around the world – even graphic pics when soldiers or civilians are killed, even giving exact locations via maps drawn out in detail, pictures, etc…. Jessica Lynch and her story were public immediately and so on…. The AF would most likely have had any part on the news by now ESPECIALLY warning women in that area of possible additional abductions.
Would fly her husband out immediately as they know the story is false and at the time, she is not in her right mind. Also, to have him answer questions and take questions on her behalf so she DOES NOT FURTHER DAMAGE HER CHARACTER, STORY, ETC…as well as AF knows she was drilled to tears by military investigators, etc….she needed some type of backup to STOP the drilling….
Perhaps the AF was as clueless about what went on as everyone else. They’re just now figuring it out. All they would have had to go on was her freaky story, and if she had ketamine she wouldn’t even remember things correctly. The Kyrgyz officials concluded that she was FOS, so didn’t look any further.
They would have drug=tested her in Landstuhl, but ketamine won’t show up on the usual urine tests. Those just test for common drug of abuse, like cocaine and marijuana and opiates. It would take several days to find ketamine in the blood, and her blood would have been sent to the AF Institute of Pathology back in the US for that.
She left the Tsum on her own for something dumb. I don’t know, she was going to get a case of Stoli, cheap, at that square where the hospital is. Or a babushka doll for Mom. Meet up with some Russian pilot friends for one last beer or whatever. They never showed, but they called her on her cell. She was afraid to answer the cell, but wrote down the number and tried to call on the payphone (thinking if she used her cell it could be traced, and she knew she was AWOL). Got back into another cab to head back to the mall, at which point everything went bad. Friends tried again to call on her cell, which alerted her captor to the fact that she had one and he made her turn it off.
The ketamine would have had to wear off quite a bit before she could run. But if you’ve seen idiots at a rave on ketamine (I work in an ER; I’ve seen them) they still have plenty of physical activity going on even though the synapses are not firing too well in the logical thought part of the cerebral cortex.
I’m leaning to “something happened” either before or after she left the base.
It seems obvious she left the store of her own accord. The question is WHY?
Did she just go to meet someone, not get back in time and make up the whopper of the year? Or did SOMETHING bad happen?
Perhaps this had been brewing for a while. IF she was assaulted on base, didn’t report it, pregnant or not going back home to new husband could be traumatic. She holds everything inside for a couple of months, but returning home to everyday reality is too much for her.
IF this happened, I can see the AF sweeping it under the rug for the benefit of all concerned. The military has not exactly been open and above board in these matters. Giving Major Jill a pass for going a round the bend and taking off for a few days might be a small price to pay not to open up that can of worms in the press.
No clue if I’m right or not, but the pieces pretty much fit, including grim looking dad, husband, brother.
I like it, I like it…more pieces…..
The Jill Metzger Puzzle – coming soon to a Walmart near you……
…and recall that the person at the farmhouse in Kant where she wound up described Jill as someone they first thought was severely drunk. She may have been staggering around and confused because of lingering intoxication from a drug.
If she DID make this whole story up to cover up some bad deed (abortion, affair), she sure went to GREAT LENGTHS: hair dye and chop, new baggy clothes, bruised face, cut feet, sobbing incoherence at farmhouse. Surely such a well-planned ruse would have included a more believable story. She had several days to think about it.
The Pentagon of Polygon
September 19, 2006
Word has leaked that the Major Jill Metzger was the subject in a new experimental weapon to be used by the armed forces against terrorists. According to sources who insisted on anonymity, a note is given to the subject which is written in code. The sequence of the code works like a combination lock which after being read, puts the subject into a ‘trance like state’. Once the trance is induced, any instructions written on the note will be followed in detail.
The source also stated that the reason Major Jill Metzger was selected for this trial was obvious. She was an excellent subject. Her conduct and behavior has always been above reproach. She is a model Officer, daughter of Model Parents, model wife, with a clean record. “We knew that we could depend on Major Metzger to perform under any conditions.
The experimental weapon will not be released until November of 2075… According to the source, “there are a couple of minor glitches we need to work out”.
For participating in the experiment, Major Metzger will be receiving a promotion, she will also be awarded 5 medals, and given a years supply of hair dye.
Ah Wiz…..always count on wiz…now that is a theory I can believe….
VR: Folks at farm said blood on her feet, not cut feet – perhaps bleeding from abortion gone bad. I know that during an abortion, even following one, they give a variety of drugs, a big one is VALIUM, which most certainly can induce a drunk like stupor. During an abortion, they even give valium and high doses of this to perform the procedure. Given her type A personality and statements such as “noone will come second to me”, I can actually see her going through GREAT LENGTHS of hair dying, feet bleeding, etc….in order to avoid losing her entire military career, husband, life really….
Simple Theory: She goes to say goodbye to friend somewhere. Cab driver drops her off at wrong location following this meeting, she runs (Jill likes to run) trying to desperately find way back to Tsum, falls and hits her head on curb, causing drunken stupor and proceeds to run (bloody feet now), falls, locals dye her hair and laugh at what they think is well, simply a drunk girl on side of road so playing a prank they dye her hair. She wakes up after hitting her head, tells story of bomb in pocket and note because she has watched the news too often of serial bombings and bombs bombs bombs (not sure where the note thing comes in though), AF picks her up, whisks her to Landstuhl for medical help because they think Jill has suffered a severe beating when it reality, she simply fell and hit her head!!! AF is too embarrassed to relay this story so are just laying low hoping it GOES AWAY….
The End
I’m in the same boat as everybody else posting on opinion of the causes that resulted in Major Jill Metzger unauthorized absence and unknown whereabouts for 3 to 4 days, totally clueless. However, my military service experience does give me good cause to doubt her explanation.
The apologists and boundless compassionate offer explanation of direct causes being out of lacking ability to deal with or cope with are overlooking the unauthorized absence and unknown where-about of Major Metzger is peculiar for a career officer having served more than ten years of active duty and being described as being independent, competitive, savvy, smart, and totally committed to her AF career.
The conspiracy theorists offer explanations of being caught in some planned operation but if so these scenarios avoid or omit acknowledging this would require advanced knowledge of the shopping trip and who would be in the group shopping. Consequently this suggests somebody, either the Major herself or somebody else told the abductors where and when she would be shopping not to mention giving positive identification of the person to snatch. If it was an unplanned operation of opportunity then explanation needs to be provided on why her rather than somebody else. The lack of any person or group stepping forward making any demands or claims puts significant questions that this was targeting of a military service member for political or criminal purpose. The question is simple, why her and why on that day and that location.
If purposely drugged to the degree of having the appearance of being severely drunk when she knocked on the door of a strange house after running or walking sever miles it is reasonable to expect the drugs incapacities on coordinated action and purposeful behavior needed to overpower her abductor/guard would be much more debilitating at the time of her escape then after (of course we can also argue route drug was administered, Orally, Rectally, Subcutaneous, IM, or IV and dosage). She then had the where-with-all to run or walk a considerable distance from an unknown location in an unknown direction at night to arrive at the home of complete strangers. No evidence is provided she had any previous self-defense or hand-to-hand fighting training. This escape and evasion is a very great accomplishment for a military member having minimal if any Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape (SERE) training.
The bomb with note being placed in pocket indicates a small bomb and the likelihood she pulled both out of the pocket, a very peculiar method of abduction as it would require dependence on the victim being compliant and also the victim not throwing the bomb and running at the first opportunity.
Yes a very strange event of many peculiar situations and circumstances and these are few of the many reasons the claimed abduction needs inquiry and full disclosure of the truth the inquiry discovers.

About TIME YOU CHIMED IN!!!!!!!!! HoooYaaa!!
Folks… Johca … KNOWS of what he speaks!!
Thanks …
Just a little piece of remember those who are “Over There”.
http://objflickscom/GladiatorAmericanStyle.htm
Speakers “On”
Johca: Good evidentiary points but go easy on the thesaurus. Jill did not have SERE training, but was an avid competitor in CIOR (Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers). It’s a military pentathlon of sorts.
Mostly a recap of everything we already know, but slightly conflicting info in following article:
http://www.axisglobe.com/article.asp?article=1062
“Metzger, according to witnesses, seemed dazed when she reappeared, but showed no visible signs of physical abuse…”
Intersting reading all the other Kyrgyz and geographical neigborhood “goings on” reported on that page. I’m definitely bookmarking that site.
Jocha: I like it. What about the dyed hair???? If drugged to that extent, how could she recall anything never mind remember how she HIT HER KIDNAPPER who was bringing her food. Nice of them to bring her food, but dye her hair….???????????
I can’t imagine them dying her hair and then feeding her, especially that late at night….hmmmmmm, let’s dye he hair and then feed her and call it a night. Her hands were full of that dye, WHY?
If this was covert or some type of intel collecting gone bad – would they dye her hair? for what purpose? Embarrassment???????
Another theory: Maybe they (whoever they is) took Jill Metzger’s REAL being and body and returned a fake one in her place with a duplicate facial imprint as hers. She was in excellent physical shape, a military Officer. Perhaps they are doing experiments on her brain activity and physical constitution to see if they can come up with similar military officers of her stature for their own use….oh my, perhaps the real Jill is not, in fact, the real Jill…..
oh boy, too many theories…..
I don’t think many of us who are posting here at this point have much doubt she left TSUM of her own will.
The question is WHY?
Did she plan to be gone for an extended time?
Was it just a “minor” breaking of the rules to do something simple, and she got into a situation she couldn’t handle?
Had there been something wrong (depression, illness, instability, harrassing behavior, assault, whatever) that she didn’t feel she could report and she felt desperate?
I’m not buying a personnel officer being sent on some covert op, to me that makes the least amount of sense.
I’m going with “something” happened (either materially or psychologically) that caused aberrant behavior in someone who otherwise was fairly together, at least in her professional life. But I’ve got to admit, it’s a puzzle.
Shrink – I am with you with the obsession of “why”.
A few things to consider about her leaving TSUM:
– The large bag (enough space for a good supply of clothing/food/HBA’s) to be gone for an extended period.
– The fact that she was never to leave her “buddy” yet they both seemed to “get lost” on purpose
– Her cell phone calls made during her shopping trip
Another thing that keeps bothering me is Josh’s statement immediately after she was listed as missing. He said “we discussed family matters and then talked about all the things we would do when she got home.” Something about this made me wonder if the “family matters” upset her. I spoke before about the deployments I had experienced – the way I explain it to my friends is that every part of your personality is doubled during deployment. Nobody is their normal “self” – you see a lot of bad (affairs, harassment, etc.) and it makes your own problems magnified. I think the last phone call was either her breaking point or her resolution to solve whatever she had done while deployed. She hung up that phone and thought “I have to fix this…I am going home soon”. Whatever “this” was is the mystery. If she WAS being harassed by someone that knew something about her – I can say from EXPERIENCE this is by far the worst form of harassment and I can see why she would want to escape. However, I can’t see where she would be going or what she would be accomplishing in Kant that would make the harassment go away.
I’m with you on the ‘discussed family matters.’
It always seemed an odd way to phrase things. Maybe a little stilted. Like whatever they were discussing was not of the “Happy, happy, joy, joy, you are coming home” sort.
Coming from the other side of the issue, I will say that having a spouse returning from a long deployment or remote tour is very stressful.
If you’ve experienced it in the past, you KNOW after the initial, “I’m so happy you’re home!” you’re going to end up in a battle of wills. Of course, they were newlyweds, so it’s not like they really had any experience living together.
A lot of questions, a lot of theories, no answers.
“Johca: Good evidentiary points but go easy on the thesaurus. Jill did not have SERE training, but was an avid competitor in CIOR (Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers). It’s a military pentathlon of sorts.
Posted by: Buster at September 19, 2006 05:49 PM “
And being an avid competitor gives what special qualification or personal readiness to do what? Taking out a guard requires a viciousness and willingness to purposefully hurt, maim and kill. Under the Geneva conventions a PW doesn’t have the right or privilege to take such action to escape. There is no indication that she was in such duress to cause such motivation to be so vicious and the tale was she overpowered or knocked the guard unconscious which is quite difficult to do silently and not arousing attention of others. If she over powered and didn’t kill or knockout with a technique that would keep the guard out of it for several minutes or more than she had to secure and gag to prevent rising of alarm she had escaped.
How much are you trying to make me laugh with this suggestion of competing in a military pentathlon of sorts gives the personal knowledge, skills, and readiness to go hand-to-hand and win quietly and silently while also being drugged.
The “Eurasian Secret Services Review” article referenced above is interesting. It makes me think they’re still looking into this story in Bishkek, and don’t know what to make of it either. Surely if she’d had an abortion the Kyrgyz officials would be trumpeting it by now, or if they found out she’d been “visiting” a friend in Kant.
A witness said a foreign woman was speaking Russian and got into a cab during that time: maybe just enough Russian to give directions to an intersection.
I think they don’t know either, she dropped off the map after her taxi ride, which makes the “something bad did happen” theory more likely.
I don’t think anyone believes she was a POW with a military guard, lamenting her lack of SERE training and the tenets of the Geneva convention. I’m postulating she was held captive by a regular doodad bad guy. The story we heard was that she whacked her captor when he brought her food. Perhaps she did, if he was a small, non-professional guy. Or perhaps she stumbled out of the house when he went in the crapper. The story she told was relayed through the Kyrgyz police; it may have been hard to understand for various reasons and they may not have gotten her words right. Or she may not have said them right.
VR–I do not disagree with your perspective. It is possible the lack of common language confused the account reported. The reference to PW is to make it clear training to kill guards or to take them out is not a skill taught to military members who are not doing infantry or other direct action combat activities. Even then taking out a guard is not something that is encouraged or taught to many military members. Taking out a sentry differs in taking out a guard as there is greater probability of surprising the sentry than a guard.
I have difficulty accepting any confrontation where she overpowered and not because she is a woman, but knowing the difficulty in doing so even when the guard is not expecting it. The human body is quite resilient and element of surprise is fleeting once the first attempt fails. It was the tale of confrontation and overpowering I was addressing not other possibilities.
I certainly can accept the possibility she stumbled out of the house undetected, but then there is the element of deciding direction of route of travel and the arrival at final destination being nothing but luck and chance.
johca: Alrighty then; first off I never said anything about her being drugged nor did I insinuated that a military pentathlon qualified her for anything. For that matter I haven’t even hypothesized what may or may not have happened to Jill. At least not here. But on that note you obviously don’t know what such a military pentathlon is or what it takes to compete at the world class level so I’ll leave that alone for now.
As for your Geneva Convention diatribe, sign up for SERE now. Be sure to tell your instructors that you’re not allowed to hurt, maim, nor kill anyone while trying to escape. Or better yet, follow in her footsteps and take a trip out to Manas AB and wonder off post and see if you can get yourself “captured”.
I don’t have to sign up for SERE I have gone through both Air Force and Army level-C SERE courses and have a few other course completed backing up my legitimacy to discuss SERE. I also have 23 years experience doing combat rescue and special operations as a combatant/operator.
I’m also very familiar of the Air Force having served 23 years active duty in the Air Force. I addressed the tales in the public domain and the opinion rendered were from professional qualifications dealing with personal recovery, special operations. I certainly have not made any person attack of person and have limited to published accounts. So your need to attack person is?
Like I said…. johco knows of what he speaks…
It’s indeed unlikely that Jill could have done what she claimed to have done. AND ….. IF… she was that well qualified in all the physical aspects of all this Rambo stuff that some may want to ascribe to her… she could have broken away from a ragtag group with no problem…
SERE training is some tough stuff. Mentally and Physically. As a personnel Officer, I am sure Jill did not have SERE training. Regardless, how could she be drugged and battle her way out of a dark room? I still say “the kidnappers who would have planted a bomb and note and put her in a trance and planned this elaborate abduction, would certainly have planned to have an American military Officer’s HANDS TIED so she could not escape…..(now Wiz and I could have gotten out of that though) 🙂
I think I’ll stick to the abortion theory. She would not have come back to the states to do that as her family, her husband, people would just find out and/or know. That would be something she would want to hide for many reasons – sex while deployed, affair, she is married – all would render her OUT….
To johco:
Off topic, but you sound like someone I met once…
Were you by chance teaching a survival course in Alaska in 02-03?
I hate to be redundant… but here goes..
1. Bldg..Tsum is smack dab in the middle of town. It is, by far, the busiest place (aside from osh market) in the city. It is teeming with security. Uniformed and not.
2. Kidnapping – random.. is highly unlikely for there are dozens if not hundreds of other Americans/foreigners in Bishkek. This would be THE LAST place to attempt a random kidnapping.
3. Kidnapping – Targeted.. The amount of planning and coordingation EXCLUDES this option. People would have to know too much… too far in advance… and have well trained people in place to accomplish it.
The entire premise of her story falls apart because this is probably the most outlandish thing she could have come up with… Major Jill Metzger was not KIDNAPPED.
4. Add to that… The NOTE.
5. Trance like state.
6. Bomb in pants (or elsewhere)
7. Walking out of Tsum on her own..
GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!! THINK people …. THINK!!!
Wiz:
still thinking. The bomb in pocket story is ridiculous, outlandish, bull-oney, we all agree.
1.) Maybe she didn’t really say it. The Kyrgyz police said she was “confused in her story”. Maybe she said all kinds of wacky, slurred things and that was the only part they could piece together. We are getting information 2nd or 3rd hand, and we don’t know what really happened.
2.) Maybe the parts of her supposed story came out oddly. “It was like I was in a trance” may have been said in reference to something else (e.g. running away from bad guy) but the police interpreted it to be part of her bomb story. The word “trance” would be an odd word for a non-native-English-speaker to even recognize, in my opinion. We don’t know her mental state during the time of the police interview, we don’t know what kind of interview tactics they used, we don’t know how well they speak English. She may not have said anything like what was reported.
Think this AP reporter Leila Saralayeva, would want to find this farm house where Jill was found and interview this Svetlana Ishchenko, who gave the details of Jill knocking on the door.
By all accounts I read the police are source of this story and giving it to the press through 24 kg. Report, whatever that is.
I like that ketamine theory! Makes for a good story! Reading those stories from the link in lurkers post means there are more drug deals going down there then in East LA!
Does anybody know if the wedded couple is still going on their honeymoon? Or even if the AF will let her go yet?

No but you got my 2002/2003 location nailed. I do perhaps know who you are talking about (a former team mate who took a 50 cal round to the right arm) if it was a civilian run course.
At this point, all of our debating is of little consequence. Unless the media picks up on something that really rocks the socks off the Military.. It will be dealt with in a very quiet and private way.
I, for one, have my doubts regarding the entire story. If you want my personal opinion as to what will happen from this point forward… Major Jill will have her day in court with the people at Moody… she will have her wrist slapped a couple of times… she will probably be divorced before the entire thing is resolved.. But.. that’s just my prognosis on the situation.
I like to take situations like this, extrapolate and later on… see how close I was to the situation as it unfolded. Unfortunately, I may never know all the results. I do, however, believe I can find out.
Nevertheless… When I lay out all the ‘facts’ before me, I get a puzzle that just doesn’t ‘click’ to similar situations and how it should have been handled. In this case, there are far too many contradictions to what, in my experience, should have happened.
I’ll continue to post any headlines from around the world as they unfold. There are reports of many “copy cat” crimes being committed now that people believe that it is a good “out” if they get caught.
Till then…
I remain your poster at large..

Heidelberg University is rumored to be opening a new field of research based upon the story of Major Jill -the Butcher- Metzger (as you know Metzger means Butcher in German). Her kidnapping was all that Herr Dr. Wilhelm Luftkopf needed to proceed with convincing the Department of Psychiatry his theory that “normal” people are not normal, and that “insane” people are normal.
Unfortunately, Dr. Luftkopf could not be reached for comment. However, the Psychiatry Department stated that Dr. Luftkopf is resting comfortably in one of the “residential apartments” until the medication wears off, at which time he will be transferred to a ‘Kur House” in Austria. No word on the new research department. University officials refused to comment.

A rash of ‘copy cat’ crimes, which are being termed “Mock Metzger Manipulation” are beginning to surface throughout the country. Children, teenagers, and adults alike are turning the Metzger story from Bishkek in which Major Jill Metzger claimed to have been abducted from a mall by means of a HAND WRITTEN NOTE and falling into a trance.
Among the most bizarre, a woman claiming to have ‘special connection’ to the Bishkek underground, was arrested selling “Trance Notes” in the red light district. Claiming that the notes would work on the prostitutes working in the area. Local hospitals have treated over 78 men who were beaten unconscious while attempting to ‘cash in’ on the notes.
Should there be doubt or confusion of my military background, this is the specialty description of the job I did for 23 years:
Performs, plans, leads, supervises, instructs, and evaluates pararescue activities. Performs as the essential surface, air link in personnel recovery (PR) and materiel recovery by functioning as the rescue and recovery specialist on flying status as mission crew or as surface elements. Provides rapid response capability and operates in the six geographic disciplines: mountain, desert, arctic, urban, jungle and water, day or night, to include friendly, denied, hostile, or sensitive areas. Provides assistance in and performs survival, evasion, resistance, and escape (SERE). Provides emergency trauma and field
medical care, and security. Moves recovered personnel and materiel to safety or friendly control when recovery by aircraft is not possible. Related DoD Occupational Subgroup: 105000.
Should somebody or anybody care to discuss if I know what a military pentathlon is (five events: 1, shooting, 2. cross country run, 3. throwing, 4. Obstacle run, and 5. Obstacle swimming) or what it takes to compete in one we can discuss it. I’m very capable of talking about myself and what I have and have not done. BTW, I must have done something as my highest awarded military decoration gives me an extra 10% in retired pay for heroism every month. Look up what is needed to be done for eligibility for that entitlement. Better yet look up how few get this entitlement.
SO….
Any further questions???
Now.. to the matter at hand….
We will now conduct a poll, as is customary…
All those who believe that Maj Metzgers story stinks say: Aye!
Opposed:
Like I thought! Ayes have it.. Please have a seat.

“Subsequent news reported in the Kyrgyz Republic but not in the U.S. claimed that Metzger was pregnant at the time of her disappearance and that her disappearance was related somehow to hiding her pregnancy from her fiance or husband”

I wonder if it was someone from here that did it (ip = 207.162.9.2)
