Will Franklin, of willisms.com, has been notably absent of late from his excellent site. His colleague, Ken McCracken, has been doing yeoman’s work keeping things going over there, but there’s no denying that the site (and, by extension, the blogosphere) has been diminished as a consequence.
Thanks to my in-depth investigation (consisting of e-mailing Will directly and reading this post), I have learned that Will has a new job, a political one, that requires him to do a great deal of travel and gives him access to all kinds of wonderful material for blogging — with the caveat that he keep it all to himself. He says things should be better after November, but that is a long, long way away.
In the meantime, he’s managed to recruit some temporary help. I’ve read this new person’s first entry, and I have to say I like it. I don’t know how well this new author will fit in with the overall tone and high standards Will’s readers have (justly) come to expect, but it’s Will’s site and Will’s decision.
Will is one of the better “big thinkers” of the blogosphere, as one of the classiest, and we were honored here at Wizbang! to have his services as a guest poster in the past. Here’s hoping he finds the time to get back into the game — but it’s easy to understand if reality has to intrude.
Jay, you sly dog, you!
Perhaps with a little work, you, too, can become certifiably classy!
“They see themselves not only as a superpower, but the logical and rightful heir to America’s title as “hyperpower”.”
To what purpose?
You sound like you think that the Chinesse are prompting NK to stir the pot in order to weaken the US. A weaker US economy means less imports from China. Seams a bit foolish to me for anyone espiring to be a “hyperpower”.
As the Soviet Union learned, the only way to superpower status is through economic developement, not militarily. As long as we are sitting on a couple of thousand nuclear wepons, everyones military option is out.
China? Economics? USMC pilot, I didn’t mention either of those topics above. Maybe you ought to bring up those points to the author directly, over on that piece at Willisms.

Jay:
I don’t normally (actually never before) visit that site, so thought comment here would be appropriate, since the subject is one of importance. Your tone of writing is more than a little condescending, and not appreciated.
Pilot, sir, I’ll take credit for any of Mr Tea’s condescension. I’m one of the folks who couldn’t post here last night, and things not working that I don’t understand the mechanics of is Nth degree frustrating for me. I was short with them and they were short with me, and I may have put everyone in a bad mood.
Unintentionally, this time. …as opposed to my normal, deliberate attempts where I’d, e.g., call you a jarhead and you’d reply about me being a pansy Air Force desk jockey and we’d glower at each other until they served the beer at the V.
Like that.
So instead of that, let’s just get to the beer.

As long as it’s good English Ale!
