According to the New York Daily News, a new Bin Laden tape will be released to correspond with the anniversary of the 7/7 London bombings:
Osama bin Laden’s publicity machine announced plans yesterday to release a video that strongly suggests a link between Al Qaeda and the bombing of London’s transit system nearly one year ago.
The development came as Britons prepared to mark the first anniversary tomorrow of the attacks on three subway trains and a double-decker bus that killed 56 people, including the four homegrown bombers.
Rita Katz, director of the SITE Institute, said the tape is expected to include statements by Bin Laden’s deputy Ayman Al-Zawahiri and a videotaped last statement by Shehzad Tanweer, who blew himself up on a subway train at Aldgate station. The British government has said it has no hard proof that “Al Qaeda Central” – meaning Bin Laden and Zawahiri – was behind the July 7, 2005, blasts.
But Katz said the bombers visited Pakistan, trained in Al Qaeda’s Afghan training camps and now Al Qaeda’s media wing As Sahab (The Cloud) is posting another bomber’s video will on the Internet. “It’s all an indication that Al Qaeda was involved,” Katz said.
Update: Counterterrorism blog has a lot of analysis on the tape and its significance
