While poring through my reference books for yesterday’s fiction about the Battle of Midway, I came across this remarkable photograph.
Why is it so remarkable? Because the fair-haired guy in the center is someone I’ve written about in the last few weeks. He was a veteran and a gifted athlete (obviously), but he also had a remarkable political career.
Can anyone name this guy, and tell us where and when (roughly) this photo was taken?
(There. I think I finally found a trivia question that might last longer than an hour!!!!!)
(And to any readers who appreciate the “beefcake” element, I’d like to apologize in advance for any reactions you may have when his identity is revealed.)
Gerry Ford
What was that, less than 10 minutes?
heh
ironman, I loathe you.
J.
sorry. Feeling not mutual.
Ford almost was swept off the deck of an aircraft carrier in WWII. BTW, he lived in my town while attending law school
Another refugee from polipundit did it again…
Wait, wait, hold on just a dadburn second. If that was Ford would he not be banging his head on the rim?
He probably twisted His ankle on the way down.
It’s interesting,Ford was a U-Michigan undergrad,Yale Law grad,All American footbaall player, yet the perception of him is dull and clumsy.By contrast Bill Bradley,Prirnceton grad and Rhodes’ scholar, with SAT’s in the lower half of the country is considered an intellectual.(Bradley and the late Sen Wellstone were the two senators known to have low SAT’s.Yet I don’t recall them being ridiculed as dimwits)

Easy answer to this I think Corwin.
MSM does most of the print reporting and they seldom print anything that just might make a Democrat look not-so-bright.
Yes, but Wellstone was a wrestler! Breakfast club flashback again. In Wellstones case, He overcame obvious shortcomings (pun intended)to rise to the lofty lefty MN senator seat. must take some intelligence?
Bradleys just a lib. cut Him some slack.
Shaggy and Scooby!
Oh, wait a second.
I thought you said “Mystery Van.”
Want another scooby snack shaggy? ha ha
He looks a little like Murtha, actually…minus the jowls.
Dolf Lundgren
Gerald Ford served on the U.S.S. Monterey (CVL-26)

WWII story is even better. 10,000 lost in just six months. Time to set a time table to get the hell out. Of course, we HAD broken the codes before Midway and were waiting in ambush for the Japs. Think you could get this dis-information printed in the NY Times now? And there would be hell to pay, when they found out they’ve been had. Oh, I guess then they wanted us to win, I forgot we had a Democrat president. To bad for the Japs. Kemp
I think Murtha too.
As for the where, it’s in the elevator well on his carrier. The railing around the top is a dead giveaway; it popped up out of the deck as soon as the elevator started its trip down.
Aparently it *was* Ford. I was going to guess Murtha as well. (But I NEVER get stuff like this right, so…)
