"I Don't Understand the Necessity for Patriotism"

Updated

The Dixie Chicks are still whining about how people were mad at them for the nasty comments they made about President Bush. They didn’t help themselves with their new comments:

The Chicks can’t hide their disgust at the lack of support they received from other country performers. “A lot of artists cashed in on being against what we said or what we stood for because that was promoting their career, which was a horrible thing to do,” says Robison.

“A lot of pandering started going on, and you’d see soldiers and the American flag in every video. It became a sickening display of ultra-patriotism.”

“The entire country may disagree with me, but I don’t understand the necessity for patriotism,” Maines resumes, through gritted teeth. “Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country… I don’t see why people care about patriotism.”

The Dixie Chicks should be thanking their lucky stars that they live in America. This country has given these women the opportunity to achieve the success and wealth that most people in this world could only dream of. They have the freedom to speak their minds about anything they want, including their dislike of the president and their lack of interest in patriotism. Why is it that they can’t muster even a little respect or appreciation for the country that has given them such great opportunities?

Update: Michelle Malkin has a great photo roundup of soldiers and the American flag – the really sickening, ultra-patriotic stuff the Dixie Chicks hate.
