For some time, Home Depot has been a boon to illegal aliens. Seeking day work, they hang out in and around their parking lots, hoping a contractor will pick them up for a quick day’s pay, under the table. Home Depot hasn’t been an entirely willing participant. They post no-soliciting signs and, occasionally, have called the police to clear out loiterers.
Now, though, law enforcement is finally paying attention to this phenomenon. In Massachusetts, police are starting to patrol Home Depot parking lots, “encouraging” day laborers from hanging out. It’s a far cry from actually arresting and deporting illegal aliens, but as the Chinese say, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
And with Massachusetts, even a single step in the right direction is to be applauded.
It’s likely that the police are there to be certain that those poor folks are being provided with refreshments and clean restrooms. Oh, and a shady place with safe seating.
