When I was growing up in the 70’s, Rod Stewart was a bit of a “bad boy.” “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” “Hot Legs,” and the like.
Then Rod grew a bit older, and his music aged with him. Instead of keeping up with the times, he moved backwards. During the late 80’s and 90’s, he dove headlong into the Motown sound, even recording one called “The Motown Song.”
Time went on, and Rod’s music went back even further. He’s now doing REAL Oldies, stuff from the 40’s and 50’s.
I fully expect that before Rod dies, he will record at least one album of Ragtime classics.

I like Rod’s stuff before he did the “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” crap. His first few solo albums are great, and it’s painful to listen the most of the stuff he has done since then. Maybe this new phase is an attempt to get back to his romantic songwriter side.
I wouldn’t say Rod has totally lost his bad boy image. I read somewhere that the song Rhythm of My Heart, which I believe came out in the early nineties, was originally about rimjobs. His producer made him change it quite a bit to make it more marketable, but if you read the lyrics you can certainly tell where it came from.
