Jewel has always seemed somewhat of a flake, but the other night she lost it.
HAMPTON – Gloria Dion wants her money back after being subjected to what she calls the worst Jewel concert ever.
Dion, along with her two daughters Nicole and Kaitlin, went to last Saturday’s 8 p.m. Jewel concert at the Hampton Beach Ballroom Casino. The singer performed two concerts that evening at the Casino. People who saw the first said Jewel was at the top of her game and said it was a “rocking show.”
Those who had tickets to the second show saw something quite different, according to Dion.
“People were literally walking out of the show,” she said. “As soon as she came out, she began to insult us. We thought she was joking at first because it was kind of weird.”
Witnesses said Jewel went on a tirade of insults from poking fun at fat people to others with no teeth. At one point, she asked the audience to yell requests and then told them to “shut the hell up.”
“I saw her live in Boston and it was the greatest show I’ve ever been to,” Dion said. “I don’t know if she was having a nervous breakdown or what. She told everyone to stop looking at her teeth and look at her breasts.”She’s the celebrity, so her wish is our command…
Mesmerizing, no?
Anyway, the craziness continued as Jewel went off on a 10 minute rant about Zoloft and Paxil, then for an encore yodeled for a minute and then left the stage.
“The worst Jewel concert ever” is the oxymoron of the day…
The yodelling thing goes way back with her. I used to go see her in a coffee shop in San Diego (shortly before she got her record deal) and she used to complain because she got asked to yodel at almost every show. But she would do it sometimes – and she’s quite good at it.
Her pictures in various media always amuse me. I had the pleasure to be within a few feet of her on more than one occasion when she was 10 years younger than she is now and, while she’s quite attractive, she never looked as good as that picture, I can assure you.

Oh, what to say, what to say? Decisions, decisions…
Oxymoron?
No, it’s straight from the Department of Redundancy Department.
You beat me to it, Aaron. I was about to say the same thing.
I’ve never really understood the attraction so many have for Jewel. Of course, I can’t understand the interest in C&W and rap, either. Go figure.
I just saw Joey McIntyre (one of the New Kids on the Block) perform for free at my local shopping center on Saturday.
Perhaps this will soon be Jewel’s fate.
What I experienced on Saturday was like the flipside of this Jewel performance. Unlike Jewel, nobody really wants to hear McIntyre perform anymore. Those like me who paused for a moment to listen discovered that they were trapped in front of the tiny stage, not wanting to be rude by making a quick exit. It was like what happens in a small comedy club when the comic is too pathetic to walk out on.
When I finally bolted for Macy’s, I felt a twinge of guilt. Here was a guy who filled stadiums not too long ago and he couldn’t even draw a crowd at a smalltown mall. Maybe he and Jewel can team up in the near future — performing in skidrow bars or worse yet Branson.
