It’s desperation time for Martha Stewart’s lawyers. Since their hands are pretty much tied as far as recasting Martha as a sympathetic victim or a lover of fuzzy bunnies and puppies, the lawyers plan to use the little people in their request for leniency – whether they like it or not.
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Lawyers for Martha Stewart plan to say that a prison sentence for the domestic trendsetter could harm her company and lead to lay-offs of some of its 500 employees, the Wall Street Journal said on Monday.
Stewart’s lawyers will cite a 1995 decision that avoided jail time for a corporate executive because he was considered a crucial figure in his company, the Journal said, citing a person familiar with the matter. Now that she’s been forced out as a directory at MSO, it would be shocking if the judge reduces her sentence for economic reasons. Her power and influence is what got her into this mess; it hardly seems fitting that she be rewarded at sentencing for her position.
In case you were planning on sending Martha a going away present, Amazon has a handy shopping list for the future prisoner.
Out of fun curiousity, aren’t you supposed to be ending the HAC debate?
Whenever I hear about Marth, I always wonder about Ken Lay, Enron, World Com, Halliburton.
