Xrlq took a spill on the 405 yesterday and had to spend the night in the hospital.
Today he wants you to know exactly why he is alive today. Without his helmet, it would have been a very dark day in the blogosphere.
There people who complain about mandatory seatbelt and helmet laws as government nannying. If the threat of a traffic ticket is what it takes to get you to make the choice to wear a seatbelt or helmet how is that so different that the threat of a ticket to keep you from speeding. You have to choose to speed or buckle up or put on your helmet every time you take to the road. Please make that choice.
For those of you who don’t know Xrlq, he is one of the real good guys of the blogosphere. He’s been helping people move off of BlogSpot as long as anyone and I’m proud to have him helping folks who are moving to free 1and1 accounts.
Get better soon bud.
Thanks.

Because if you speed, or drive drunk or whatever, you put others directly at risk.
As far as seatbelts and helmets, it’s indirectly at best — higher risk of a loss for those who care about you, and potentially higher medical bills/lawsuits.
I don’t get bent out of shape about government “nannying” to this degree, but I do think there’s a meaningful difference.
“at best” should be “at most” or “at worst” … I’m not wishing bad on anyone … I’m just splitting hairs. 🙂
