Colorado lawmakers are weighing the possibility of eliminating 12th grade. From the Boulder Daily Camera:
That’s the idea being floated by some lawmakers, who contend many seniors spend the year marking time because they already have enough credits to graduate.
They asked top education leaders on Monday to consider eliminating the 12th grade and establish a year of preschool instead. They said it would better prepare students for college by giving them an early start and possibly save some tax money.I’m not sure that they will actually get anywhere with this, even though the second semester of your senior year is for the most part totally irrelevant…
I’m a senior and i think it would be great but i think it would just make juniors slack at school.
I think this is the sweetest but most stupid thing i have ever heard and i am now dummer for hearing it.
As a senior, I understand where the’re coming from. But I don’t believe it will ever happen. I can’t believe they are even proposing this, it sounds like it’s coming from a high school student rather than educated lawmakers.
Keep the senior year, but make it “practically” educational. Give seminars and courses that will better prepare the students for life, whether college or the real world. Get them involved in the community, making community service part of the school day. Get them working at real jobs during part of the school day. Get motivational speakers in who will get the kids fired up about living, doing, giving, about who they are.
I like the idea but my boy Harrison wants to play ping pong so peace!
I think that the comment posted by Gail was a great idea. If students had to do more with the community, work part time job as a school course. I dont think it would be great idea if they knocked off the senior year. but instead of making it school courses make it as orientations of job working, community service. i think that would be a great idea.
You’ve got to have your senior year. If for nothing else, just plain memories. Doing away with the year is not going to solve anything.

Are the people in Colorado morons?
