In my neck of the woods a school girl was seriously injured today while standing at a school bus stop by a falling tree. This is from the Washington Post:
A cool, dry, forceful wind swept out of the Plains states and into the Washington region Thursday, bringing down trees and power lines and seriously injuring a Loudoun County girl who was hit by a heavy tree while waiting for her school bus.
The 14-year-old student at Dominion High School in Sterling was flown to Children’s Hospital in Washington. There was no immediate word on her condition.
I’m going to try to get more information on the girl and her condition.
Update: Here’s a story from the local paper.
This wind is crazy. I was nearly hit by a flying ATM machine today. Well, not the whole machine, but the front metal portion that came flying off.
Hope the girl will be ok.
