It's The Economy Stupid, Part II

As has been noted in quite a few spots (Balloon Juice, Outside The Beltway, and Suburban Blight to highlight a few), Bill Clinton weighs in on the State of the Union WMD debate. Confirming that WMD’s did exist and have yet to be fully accounted for, Clinton ended his comments on the Larry King show with. “We should be pulling for America on this. We should be pulling for the people of Iraq.”

Why the support for the president? My take is that Clinton realizes that the WMD angle is a sure path to election year failure. Anything he can do to end the debate and remove the issue from the campaign will benefit Democrats in the long run. I’m sure he is wondering why the current crop of candidates are not using his “It’s The Economy, Stupid” quote from 1992. Democrats have a great issue staring them right in the face, yet continue to try to split hairs on the State of the Union speech.

Note to Democratic candidates, “It’s Still The Economy, Stupid” is your ticket to the nomination. Don’t be a bonehead, run with it…
