No decision has been made on whether to change the current plan to hold the September 11 terrorist attack trial in a civilian court in lower Manhattan, White House officials said Sunday.
Last week, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other politicians expressed concern over the costs and disruption of holding the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four accomplices at a New York City courthouse.
David Axelrod, the senior adviser to President Obama, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Sunday that Obama believes the trial should take place in a criminal court instead of before a military commission, as permitted for some terrorism suspects.
However, Axelrod and Gibbs acknowledged that Obama and the Justice Department were considering moving the trial from New York City.
"We've made no decisions on that yet," Axelrod said on the NBC program "Meet the Press." Gibbs, speaking on CNN's "State of the Union," also said the location of the trial was under discussion, but he expressed certainty that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the September 11, 2001, attacks, "is going to meet justice and he's going to meet his maker."
No prejudicial statements there that would be problematic in a civil court.
The answer to this Obama made dilemma is simple... take the terrorist back to Gitmo, try him in a military court, find him guilty, shoot him, done.
Any questions?

Hell, it took The One 4 months to re-decide on Afghanistan. Figure at least that long for a decision on this. After all, it's a PRIORITY. Gotta have that Bush-Cheney "Show Trial". Or as Baghdad Bob likes to say 'first we'll try him, then we'll hang him, to show the world how fair we are.'

If you read the account of what FDR, one of "O"s heroes, did with the German saboteurs that were captured here in this country before they could complete their mission. He told the AG that he was not going to turn them over for prosecution in criminal court but, they were going to be tried by military tribunal. The rest is history. "O" being the exceptional student of history that he is, must have been sleeping in class that day.

recoverd liberal democrat, congratulations on your return to good (mental) health.
Actually, the FDR story is more apposite even than that. FDR, being an American, essentially told the AG (Francis Biddle) that he wanted the German would-be saboteurs to fry. Which they did, as Biddle complied. Kenyans are a lot softer, apparently.

I cannot get my mind around the fact that they haven't finalized a venue for this circus (because that's what it's gonna be if it takes place anywhere in the US 50) and yet at the same time they have already pronounced a verdict and sentence. It is such a drag to hear or see these people for any reason anymore. I can't wait until these guys are outta office so I can quote Gerald Ford.

Barry One-Trick can't back down now. Gitmo isn't closed, and it looks like it will be some time before it is (if ever). When Barry has a failure, he walks away from it....hoping no one will notice in the rush of new and exciting things he wants to get involved in (take over). Barry and Holder have to have their "Show Trial" somewhere.
I've sent him suggestions but so far, no response:
Dover, Delaware
San Francisco, Ca
Chicago, Ill.
Carson City, Nv
Figure Barry would buy right into that, seeing as he's all about 'spreading the wealth'.

On second thought? He's too busy bowing and redistributing others wealth too care..

For being an alleged Constitutional scholar, Obama seems to be confused by the fact that until a criminal court finds the defendent guilty, then a sentence cannot be passed.
Does this Constitutional scholar-in-chief not understand that by allowing these terrorists to be tried in criminal court that perhaps all their previous testimony (non-Mirandized!) might be inadmissable? That the court could actually find them not guilty? That the President has no say in the sentencing? That by claiming they will never be set free and that they will be executed it is Obama himself that is making a mockery of US law?

I'm starting to think Obama's a 'Constitutional Scholar' the same way I'm a master carpenter. If I can get it from IKEA, I'm good. If I need a bookcase on the cheap - Home Depot's got bricks and boards. If I had to actually MAKE something from plans, I'd be a hell of a lot better off buying something ready-made.
But HE (and the media...) sold himself as being able to do everything from cutting down the trees to putting the finishing touches on a 5-bedroom, 3-bath home furnished with finely crafted heirloom oak furniture.
All whittled out by his own hands using a dull Swiss Army knife.
I think we're really seeing just how capable and competent he is. Frankly, I think he'd have trouble stacking boards and bricks to get a usable bookcase...
