The plot to blow up an American passenger jet over Detroit was organized and launched by al Qaeda leaders in Yemen who apparently sewed bomb materials into the suspect's underwear before sending him on his mission, federal authorities tell ABC News.Investigators say the suspect had more than 80 grams of PETN, a compound related to nitro-glycerin used by the military. The so-called shoe bomber, Richard Reid, had only about 50 grams kin his failed attempt in 2001 to blow up a U.S.-bound jet. Yesterday's bomb failed because the detonator may have been too small or was not in "proper contact" with the explosive material, investigators told ABC News.
Because Richard Reid tried to detonate explosives that were hidden in his shoes, passengers now have to remove their shoes during security checks. Does this mean all passengers will now have to take off their underwear before boarding a plane? I'm not trying to make light of this situation because it's dangerous and scary, but it seems our security methods are formulated to respond to specific tactical terror attempts. The question is warranted.
The suspect was charged with trying to destroy an aircraft. I certainly hope he will also be charged with attempted murder and terrorism. Will this be considered a hate crime? And where will he be housed as the case against him is prepared? Hopefully somewhere far, far away from southern Michigan.

Our 'security methods' are a farce. Until we start focusing on PEOPLE, instead of METHOD, we are still asking for another attack.
But we don't focus on PEOPLE. We don't want to hurt anyone's FEELINGS.
In other words, WE ARE FOOLS!

The federal government is focused on people.
New rules put out today require passengers to remain seated for the last hour of the flight.
You see, the real problem is not the terrorist. The terrorist is not a threat to the Obama administration. He can kill a couple of hundred people on the plane or even a few thousand like on 9/11, but he poses no threat to the government. In fact the terrorist is beneficial in the liberal mind because he is creating a crisis by which the government can gain more power and control over the public.
No the real threat here is the private citizen, who took initiative to save his own life and the lives of everyone else on the plane. The liberals believe that the government alone has the right to protect us from harm and therefore the real threat is this man who took the power away from the government and acted on his own.
Liberals seek power and control over the rest of us. That is what they are currently doing in DC, passing laws to amass more control over us and the daily details of our lives.
This man by stopping the terrorist encourages others to act on their own and not to be mindlessly dependent upon the government.
Logically then the government has acted to restrain the law-abiding individual and actually aiding the terrorist in the future.
If you needed any evidence that Obama believes that we are the enemy and that the terrorist is not a threat here it is.

Nothing explains the actions of this administration other than they wish to render people defenseless and that they fear the citizen who can think for himself and protect himself.
Again the first act is to take freedom from the individual and assist the terrorist. You can't even ascribe this to political correctness, this is solely about controlling people.

I always wonder, with disgust, why any sane person would offer an observation like this to the command element of such an episode. Perhaps it's worthless speculation. Perhaps it helps certain readers of the article inclined to correct engineering errors. I don't know, but journalists continue to reveal their weaknesses to all who have eyes to see.

It's rather obvious to everyone involved except for the TSA that terrorists have figured out how to bring down airliners with a minimal amount of explosives and the only variation is the delivery method.
I predict the next pass will involve a bomb inside a terrorist's body and that it will not fail...

Yeah, Let's not consider things like looking at young islamic men. But, of course, that's profiling and that's RACIST!!!!
Which makes me wonder: The FBI uses profiling for finding serial killers. Does that profiling become OK simply because the profile says that the suspect is a middle aged white male? Is profiling only racist when it concludes that the suspect is a minority?
