Barack Obama and his piece of shit chief of staff Rahm Emanuel have sunk so low that they are now trying to extort a vote from Nebraska's Ben Nelson for health care. Michael Goldfarb at the Weekly Standard has the details from a source on Capitol Hill:
Nelson's demand that taxpayer money not be used to fund abortion has still not been met. According to a Senate aide, the White House is now threatening to put Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Nelson doesn't fall into line.Offutt Air Force Base employs some 10,000 military and federal employees in Southeastern Nebraska. As our source put it, this is a "naked effort by Rahm Emanuel and the White House to extort Nelson's vote." They are "threatening to close a base vital to national security for what?" asked the Senate staffer.
Indeed, Offutt is the headquarters for US Strategic Command, the successor to Strategic Air Command, and not by accident. STRATCOM was located in the middle of the country for strategic reasons. Its closure would be a massive blow to the economy of the state of Nebraska, but it would also be another example of this administration playing politics with our national security.
This administration is a piece work, isn't it. Barack Obama and his band of ugly thugs are utterly soulless. They are willing to risk national security for a win on health care. Needless to say, Barack Obama's Nobel prize speech about defeating the evil in this world meant nothing.
Nelson needs to go on offense. He should hold a press conference and call Obama and Emanuel on the carpet publicly for threatening our country's national security and Nebraska's economy in an attempt to force him to vote for the Senate health care bill.

Proudly American,
Thanks for the link, I read it and it does appear that the rumor is being denied by the Nelson camp.
And you are right, it would not be the first claim proven false. However, it would not be the first denied claim that eventually is proven true. Look at it this way. There have been several times in the past nine months where the health care bill has been deemed finally dead. Yet it seems to have more lives than a cat. If the Democrats are pushing to pass a healthcare bill despite a majority level of unpopular opinion about it in its current form then I believe the president/ congressional leadership will offer/ threaten anything. This has preoccupied the whole first year of this president's administration. This is crunch time. If they pass it early in this administration they are merely unpopular and hope the majority of attention deficient Americans forget by next November when - maybe - the economy is doing OK. If the president loses, he is "wounded" for the next three years of his administration on getting anything done, especially so if the supermajority is lost in the 2010 elections. If this threat was true it is not the type of thing a relatively loyal Democrat goes off about at least at this early point. The morality of almost all politicians can be compromised if the price is right and I have a feeling that Nelson deep, deep down can be bought.

Oh - and by the way - who was in charge when all that de-regulation and lazy oversight came to fruition? Good old George W.
And how many hospitals have closed due to lower Medicare or Medicaid payments? Maybe a few here and there, but I don't see Kaiser Permanente, who lives on those subsidies, collapsing any time soon.
Your logic is faulty. Always has been. Yet you stick to it. Isn't that the definition of an idiot?

So throw more money at uneconomical institutions? Yeah, that's smart spending, SteveP! AmTrak's not making a profit - and the Post Office is down about $2 billion a year (pocket change for DC any more, to be sure, but in the REAL wold that's a hell of a lot of money!)
And that $300 billion in Medicare fraud? Obama's pledged to eliminate it - just as soon as everyone's covered under governmental health care! You think that amount won't balloon?
News Flash - WE'RE OUT OF MONEY! We're $12 TRILLION in the hole, and there's no telling just how high the defict will run THIS year. The CBO is looking at trillion dollar deficits in a few years - how long can we keep doing this?
And tax revenues have DROPPED.
When do we start paying it back? Or do you believe we can keep on running trillion dollar deficits continually?
If so, kindly explain how 2+2=500 - because that's the sort of math they're using in Washington, and it's not playing well in the real world!

Add to that the same Patriot Act as Bush, same Predator Drones as Bush, same Generals and War Strategy as Bush ...
Your worldview is so undermined as to be nothing more than a complete fantasy at this point ...

The only one's telling you that spending to get us out of a recession is a bad thing are the same idiots you listened to who told you every other lie of the last eight years.
Regarding the debt:
http://zfacts.com/p/318.html
It's really very simple. A gorilla could understand it.
If you have three dogs who are starving - three dogs who work for you pulling your sled - how do you get them to recover?
Republicans - Give them little to nothing. The strongest will survive. We don't need the weaker ones.
Democrats - Feed them. Make them well. When all three are well, your investment will be made back.
Once again, your logic is faulty. This country will not collapse. The only thing that will is the small residue of credibility (if there's any left at all) of the republican right.
Personally, I don't really think all of you truly believe what idiots like Beck and Hannity tell you. Instead, I believe you just hate (or severely dislike) Obama, look at this all as a game with teams (and not an issue of the greater good), and you want your team to win at all costs, even if your mother has her investments in the other team. Country be damned. It's all a schoolyard game to you folks - and it's pathetic.
At least that's the way it looks to the rest of us.

steveP "You know what collapsed the economy? Wall Street guys selling unregulated products that Standard & Poor supported. Greed - not the government. Idiots who bought houses that were far more expensive than they could afford? Why? Well, mortgage brokers and banks let them - no oversight. Unregulated greed.
Partially agree, dumb asses that bought houses, among other things, they couldn't afford is PART of the problem.
IT's hadly surprising you overlook [on purpose?] the despicable hand of barney frank had in the fanny mae, fanny mac debacle. That in LARGE PART lead directly to the meltdown.
You also overlook [on purpose?] the fact Bush and some in congress tried to reform the disaster barney frank caused but were stymied by those on the take by BIG BANKERS.
On your link. the first para reads: "Here we go again: Hoover got us in, and WWII got us out. Bush got us in, and to his credit, started trying to get us out. Though, mostly he threw money at bankers.
Gee where have I heard that before, oh its what obama has been doing and at thios point the largss bestowed on the banks has done next to nothing. Credit is still tight as obama's own "econ summit" suggested.
To say WWII got us out of the depression is nonsense. Tens of millions on Americans suddenly found jobs, military jobs carrying rifles and riding on warships, and AFTER war's end had a butt load of saved cash PLUS bene's given for their service that kick started the economy.
steveP "Democrats - Feed them. Make them well. When all three are well, your investment will be made back."
How has that investment in Chrystler and GM working, obama admion admitted the tax payer will take a big lose and never recover all theat was given them.
Same is true of other "bailouts" given in the last 11 months.

Innoculated from everyday struggles? Who are you describing here? Let me tell you. How about your frat-boy President who grew up with parents worth multimillons and a father who - upon graduating college - entered the oil business with a $250,000 investment from daddy's friends at Brown Brothers Harriman (remember - this is back in 1953 - shitload of money for someone with no experience in that business). A man who fooled people like you into believing he was one of you, when in actuality he was a terminal failure who had daddy and friends bail him out of everything.
Is that the person you're talking about? I don't think it's Obama, a middle class guy who paid his way through school and lived a pretty normal life up until entering the Senate.
The problem with lemmings like you, 914, is you never know when someone's giving it to you. Instead, you smile and ask for more.
I'll take an intelligent, down-to-earth 47-year-old over a spoiled, drunk late 40's(when elected) failure any day. You obviously wouldn't.

No SteveP,
Your analogy is flawed, if only because the dogs only thrive or suffer based on the choices made by Master. Not a shock that you would think this way :)
BUT, if you insist
Republican's would take some of the load off the sled, so the dogs would expend fewer calories to pull it, while investing in better feed for the dogs. Only a fool starves his productive force on purpose. Oddly enough, it's folks like Stalin and Hitler (communists and socialists) that are famous for this, not Henry Ford, Edison etc.
Democrat's would take some of their kibble and give it to the freeloader (being government)riding the sled, so that his whipping arm would have the energy to motivate them better, while also putting on weight and further loading down the sled.
