Professional golfer Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car accident early this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol just reported.
Woods, 33, pulled out of his driveway in the Isleworth community about 2:25 a.m. when he struck a fire hydrant, and then drove into a tree at his neighbor's property, FHP reported.
Woods was transported to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee in serious condition, FHP said. No other information about his condition has been released.
A Health Central hospital employee said at 2:30 p.m. that Woods was not a patient. A hospital operator would not say if Woods had been treated and released.
FHP said the airbags in Woods' Cadillac Escalade did not deploy, which means the vehicle was traveling under 33 mph.Orange County Fire Rescue received the call for aid at 2:28 a.m. Woods was transported from his Windermere-area neighborhood by the hospital's own ambulance.
The tabloids have been rife with rumors of late (I'll not link) about the man and this, I think, will fuel the fires.
Time will tell.

UPDATE: Tiger has released a statement:
As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week, and sustained some injuries. I have some cuts, bruising and right now I'm pretty sore. This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again.
This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible.
The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false.
This incident has been stressful and very difficult for Elin, our family and me. I appreciate all the concern and well wishes that we have received. But, I would also ask for some understanding that my family and I deserve some privacy no matter how intrusive some people can be.

Curiously enough the FHP said "It was not alcohol related."
But at 2:35 AM backing out of his driveway first finding a fire hydrant and then having a tree jump out in front of him just way outside the realm of not being in, ahem, shall we say, an altered state of mind.....

I hope so.. He was just backing out of the driveway. Unless He has a driveway with center lines and roadsigns/speed limits? If He hit His head I can see how He might have been knocked for a loop and than decided to prune a tree. But beyond that, it had to be alcohol, drugs or a medical condition or maybe a combination of any or all?

Treated and released, so the injuries could not have been all that serious. More likely the reports of "facial lacerations" are true - they can generate a lot of blood which can make things look more serious, but often a few stitches will take care of it.
The tabloids will undoubtedly fill us in on where Tiger was going in a hurry at 2:25 a.m.

It seems booze was not a factor.
I'm not aware of any medical condition or medication he's taking that would impair his driving.
Fatigue, texting?

IIRC, in most states DUI does not apply if you are on private property.

Leaving at 2:28 am? A fight with Mrs. Woods? Catch a flight to an early morning meeting somewhere?
One PGA pro said, "Knowing him, he was probably leaving for an early-morning workout."
I don't buy that. He's probably got a gym in his home.
The time is very strange.

I think he and his wife had a fight, and he left in a fit of temper and lost control coming out of the driveway. A later story said she broke out the back window with a golf club to help him get out. I'm just picturing her chasing him out of the house with it, and then having it handy to use it to rescue him!

He is bringing all of the rumor and speculation on himself by NOT talking to the police, thereby, practically admitting he has something to hide. Innocent people do not refuse to speak to the police about a single car accident unless they have something to hide that would be worse than the speculation, white, black, purple or green!
