In what has to be one of the most dramatic examples of the global elitist genuflection and obsequiousness before the presence of The One, it was announced today the President Barrack Obama has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced Friday. The committee cited Obama's "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
The committee said Obama had created "a new climate in international politics."
"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the committee said, in a news release. "His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."
When this item showed up in my email this morning the first thought was that it was a joke. But then I remembered that the Nobel committee's judgment has been routinely dynamited before such as when they chose AlGore(2007), Jimmy Carter (2002) and, the pièce de résistance, Arafat (1994).
The news release by the Nobel committee could easily read as satire.
Note: The New York Times calls it a stunning surprise. Well, it was for most everyone else, but a cynic might suspect the Times has been pushing hard on this for months.

Remember when the Nobel Prize was awarded for achievement and not for simply appearing to care? The Nobel became undeone entirely when Al Gore beat out Irena Sendler. It is nothing but a mockery of the original intent.
Obama will create great fanfare but the Nobel Prize casts no shadow.

I understand the cutoff date was February 1st.
He'd been in office less than two weeks.
Oh, what WONDERS is he going to perform given 4 years to work his magic on the world?
(Come to think of it, this explains his 'reluctance' to make a hard decision regarding Afghanistan - after all, how would it appear if he got a Peace Prize right after authorizing troops to another country? Not that he's overly concerned about his image or anything...)
I really am seriously wondering just how this is going to affect his already over-inflated ego. All his life he's gotten something for nothing, just for being slicker than vaseline on a doorknob. Now he's gotten a Nobel Peace Prize for simply existing and making promises.
Sigh. Nobody would think it even credible if it were in a novel. Real life, however, is much, MUCH stranger than fiction - and rarely comes to a satisfying resolution with all the plot threads neatly tied up.

Now however it's obvious obama is Carter II given the same nutty economic and diplomatic policies.
And BTW, you you hadn't noticed, gallivanting around the globe being critical of every American policy of the last 8 years is now officially worth a cool million dollars plus.

The Europeans sense that the stronger Obama is domestically, the more likely it is that Europe's world power will increase and America's decrease, relative to each other. They will continue to praise him to the skies so long as they sense that his tenure in office increases their power relative to ours.
Or, to put it another way, the European intellectual class senses that Obama cares more to earn their good opinion than he cares to earn the good opinion of any other group -- a sentiment also shared by many wealthy & well-educated Americans. To get that good opinion, he and they allow the attitudes and preferences of the European leadership to be a major factor in deciding what policies America will implement. And in return, the European elite praise him.

I am sickened by this travesty of an European cabal once again interfering in the political life of our nation. The witless ones preceding Obamao in receipt of this politicized trophy were as divorced from the core reality of the American people as he constantly demonstrates that he is. They have behaved with a contempt quite similar to his for those Americans whose beliefs and politics demand another way than the one being shoved down our throats, now publicly abetted by the agendized cabal of the Nobel Committee.
It has become clear in the short time since January 19th, that if events continue to unfold in the same pattern here in the United States, we will throw this bum and his cohorts from office in due course. And thus, today is fired a preemptive shot across the bow of our country's internal struggle.

My immediate reaction was shock. Then I realized this is a tacit admission by the left (worldwide) that the Obama administration is failing and needs to be propped up.
The following is from the Nobel Prize site, on their nomination process:
"February - Deadline for submission. The Committee bases its assessment on nominations that must be postmarked no later than 1 February each year. Nominations postmarked and received after this date are included in the following year's discussions. In recent years, the Committee has received close to 200 different nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The number of nominating letters is much higher, as many are for the same candidates.
February-March - Short list. The Committee assesses the candidates' work and prepares a short list.
March-August - Adviser review. The short list is reviewed by permanent advisers and advisers specially recruited for their knowledge of specific candidates. The advisers do not directly evaluate nominations nor give explicit recommendations."
So yes, as JLawson pointed out, nominations do close on February 1 of each year.
February and March are used to review each candidate's body of work so that a short list of nominees can be created. (Snark comment: looks like a short list of "work" went pretty far for Obama).
Then from March through August the committee reviews the short list.
Ok, so when did the stuff happen that allowed the committee to speak of Obama's "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" in their announcement?
Given the information above, I cannot find Obama's path to Nobel Peace Prize recipient. That tells me information is missing. A person or persons with influence with the prize committee and "invested" some way in Obama would fill a lot of the gaps in this story line.
Bottom line for me, this is direct evidence of panic by the political/social left in the face of failure and defeat. It's an all out effort to try and save the Obama presidency.

His comment on ABC News this morning on hearing the news of Obama's prize award, was "This isn't April First, is it?" This could only be an April Fools' joke, and George gained a little more credibility in my book for this statement. And the Nobel organization gained less.
Go figure.

I am totally in shock about this. I would actually be happy for Obama if he actually had a tangible accomplishment to hang this on. But seriously, what has he done to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?
Jimmy Carter worked his butt off to get a peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. He has spent decades on the world stage working for peace. I have great disagreements with Jimmy in how he goes about it, but I don't deny his commitment and sincerity. There is tangible proof of his work.
Ronald Reagan ended the Cold War. There is tangible proof of that.
George H.W. Bush freed the Kuwaiti people from Saddam Hussein. That is tangible proof of the torture, rape and horrors that Saddam inflicted on the Kuwaitis.
Bill Clinton worked hard for peace between Israel and Palestine. You can't question his commitment and sincerity in trying to accomplish peace. Under his administration the country and world benefitted from un-precedented prosperity. That is tangible proof.
George W. Bush freed the Iraqi people from Saddam Hussein, the Afghani people from the Taliban, took on international terrorism, greatly reduced AIDS in Africa. You can disagree with how he went about it, but Saddam Hussein is no longer a brutal dictator, the Taliban is no longer in power, and another 9/11 has not happened.
Compared to all of that what has Barack Obama done to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize after 2 weeks in office. The committee credits his commitment to reducing the world of nuclear weapons. The world has not been reduced by a single nuclear weapon since he became Senator. How does that make him worthy? In fact, Bush has an actual record of reducing nuclear weapons.
