In addition to the health care fiasco, just look at the items President Obama wants action on before the mid-term elections:
- More federal stimulus (if required)
Global warming (cap and trade)
Immigration reform
Repeal of Defense of Marriage Act
Voting to open the border, guarantee homosexual marriage, effectively raise taxes, continue to massively increase the deficit, and supporting a federal takeover of the health care system really can't be an enticing prospect to Democrats who turned Republican seats in the last two elections.
Obama won't have to answer for, in many cases, wildly unpopular votes, Congressional Democrats will.
Republican prospects just keep getting rosier...

You have to look at it from the perspective of the Democratic leadership...
1 - Most of them are from (extremely) safe districts and are immune from any backlash for pursuing a liberal agenda. They'll still be around in 2011, raking in campaign cash, pushing earmarks and taking junkets at taxpayer expense.
2- Not being realists, they believe the country actually likes what they're pushing; they can't fathom that voters may turn on the Democrats for doing what is oh-so-necessary.
3 - Even if they did realize they might lose their majority, they know that given GOP ineptitude, it's likely to be only temporary and, in any event, with Obama still in the White House, the GOP would never be able to rescind the Democratic-passed legislation.
So why not go ahead and push the liberal agenda? Lots of upside, little downside.

Not only that but generic polls don't translate well to individual races. Politics is local and local politics are often really stupid. People do not keep informed and they vote based on name recognition. Too often people espouse beliefs that are 180 degrees out of phase with the candidate they vote for. Just as often as that the GOP puts up a candidate that looks just like the Dem and voters say "why vote for someone new when I already have that?"

Think So? These are the ones that are pushing the hardest for the Obama agenda. Take Ding Dong, for example, calling the majority of the American people Nazis and KKK members, made more than one of his constituents sit up and take notice.
San Fran Nan is another one that has raised the ire of most of the people, even the folks that voted her in her home district. By saying that the town hall participants are astroturfing and waving signs with swastikas at these gathering, when she knows damn well that it was the ACORN and union thugs that were doing that. The there are the Congressional jets that the Pentagon did not order and did not want.
Ah yes, who can forget Dingy Harry Reid. He has a line of gaffes that makes Joe Biden look like an amateur. According to what I have read and got first hand, ole Harry is really sweating things out down in Nevada. Even his cronies in Clark County (Las Vegas) Nevada may not be able to pull the fat out of the fire this time. Seems like these safe seats may be going the way of the Dodo bird for the Dems.

We need enough Republican gains to make Obama a lame duck but we want Congress to remain in Democratic hands. Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House makes Obama's reelection impossible. I'm guessing after a bout of hyperinflation and $200 a gallon gas, voters will walk to the polls and dump the exotic Kenyan for an American.

Yeah, like the GOP could catch a clue and actually stand for limited government. They could stop going after conservatives as though they were a contagion and not the base of support for the party.
They could maybe even raise up leadership that actually had convictions other than wielding party power for personal gain and attempting to curry the favor of the MSM.
If they fail to do these things they will continue to marginalize themselves and deservedly so.
So far they have benefited from Democrat missteps not from their own ability.

Something most folks don't consider is that Congressional Redistricting occurs every 10 years.. with the national census. Your STATE legislators and governors re-draw (Gerrymandering) the Federal districts. SO.. Who controls your State government in 2010 is CRITICAL to who controls the Federal Government in 2012.
The FEDERAL Justice Department gets into and reviews what the STATE Legislatures do about the FEDERAL COngressional districts..so, lots of luck with that.
UNLESS YOU get the people into your STATE government that you want in 2010, you are out of luck in 2012. Seems a little strange, but that's how it works! http://tinyurl.com/2eo76y

The "majority maker" conservatives the dems elected when the Reps stayed home last election will be expected to take one for the party between now and 2010. They may well lose their seats, but even if the Reps get majorities in both houses, they would need the impossible combination of a 60-vote majority in the Senate, and a new set of spines to actually think about repealing ANY of the stuff that has been or may be passed between now and then.
Best plan is to keep the heat on to prevent passage of any more of this between now and January of 2011.

As a registered Democrat, who supported Obama in 2008, I can tell you, he and the extreme right 'no common sense' democrats will not get my vote in 2010 and 2012. I may not be willing to waste my time going to a townhall, I'll just put my vote in a different place, since I don't like what's going on. Obama wanted to RUSH this through Congress, that tells me I misjudged him when I voted for him. He has eloquent speeches and No Common Sense!
