President Obama acknowledged in his Montana appearance today that a tax increase would be necessary to fund ObamaCare.
One (question) came from a man who called himself "a proud NRA member," referring to the National Rifle Association, and said he got most of his news from cable TV."You can't tell us how you're going to pay for this," the man said. "The only way you're going to get that money is raise our taxes."
"You are absolutely right. I can't cover another 47 million people for free. I can't do that. We're going to have to find money from somewhere," Obama said.
For the ninety five percenters out there still clinging to Candidate Obama's promise of a tax cut this should be the point of departure in their dalliance with Hope and Change. If not persuaded by their own lying eyes, these ninety five percenters should consider that this promise of a tax increase comes with news today that fully one third of all mortgage loans in the U S are under water.
More than 15.2 million U.S. mortgages, or 32.2% of all mortgaged properties, were in a negative-equity position on June 30, edging down from 32.5% at the end of March, according to the real-estate information company, which tracks data on about 90% of mortgage loans nationwide.
The largest bank failure of the year was announced today and there are more to come as the unwind in commercial real estate sector and collapsing consumer confidence take a devastating toll on the consumer consumption which represents 70% of U S GDP.
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. consumer sentiment index unexpectedly declined in early August to 63.2 from 66.0 in July, according to media reports on Friday of the Reuters/University of Michigan index. It's the lowest reading since March, and is significantly worse than the 69.0 that was expected by economists surveyed by MarketWatch. Sentiment has fallen two months in a row.
Consumers are still facing several challenges, including large job losses, weak income growth, falling house prices, rising energy prices, and too much debt.
Only a fully self absorbed politician like Barack Obama could pitch a tax increase in such an economic climate. And only a politician like Barrack Obama would tell a taxpayer that "we're going to have to find the money from somewhere", knowing full well that the "somewhere" is that same taxpayer's pocket.

Hugh,I'm sure the usual detractors will weigh in and say you're over-reacting. Obamanomics will find the money "somewhere". Only problem is that all the suggestions so far have been rejected. There's still the teaser "those earning over $250K". What they refuse to acknowledge is that all the states with budget problems also want to tap into the "250K" market. There was one estimate where "millionaires' in some states (like New York) would be looking at a tax burden of 57% when Federal, State and Local Taxes were factored in. Just how much blood can you siphon off before the donor dies? Health care costs are going to continue to rise - thanks to the baby boomers. Yet Barry is going 'to cut costs', 'increase efficiency' and 'cover more people' while 'saving money'. I guess anything is possible under Obamanomics. It's worked wonders "Stimulating" our economy so far. Let's face it, Barry ain't got a clue in that socialist mind of his. "Tax the rich" only works to the point when they're not "rich" anymore. I'd like to paraphrase an old observation: "First they came for the millionaires, but I wasn't a millionaire; then they came for the $250K crowd, but I wasn't one of them; then they came for the $60K wage earner....and there was NO ONE THERE TO DEFEND ME." So if you don't think Barry will raise your taxes, I'd like to sell you some prime 'oceanfront property in Las Vegas'. Trust me.

I find it interesting that he immediately jumps to taxation and never thinks that perhaps the way is to have a strong economy with lower tax rates generate more tax revenue.

There is something wrong with what Obama intends to do. I don't get it. Obama says that Medicare and Medicaid don't pay health care bills, private insurance pays 130% to make up for the other two. So why wouldn't Obama want tons of privately insured people to help pay for the expanding uninsured and underinsured?
Today he talked about giving more help to people on Medicaid, using Medicare savings to do it, plus not allowing "giving" to be a tax deduction at the same rate.
Suppose he is misrepresenting what his real intentions are. Suppose he really only wants to expand Medicaid to cover the working poor to say 400% of poverty, disguised as reforming Health Care for all. If it is true, his words make alot more sense, and still very expensive.
It would also fit with his other programs of putting a ton of money into underachieving schools, and the stimulus of which 2/3's is going to the poor or lower middle class. And the jobs part of the stimulus is going to many poor areas as well.
I may be way off base, but things just don't jive.

Want to see your Congressman Squirm - even if you oppose healthcare - make your congressman go on record that he doesn't believe what he says:
Please make the following request of your congressman:
I am hoping you will lend your support to several statements the president has made about healthcare reform by committing to us right now that you will vote against any health related bill that does not include the
following wording:
1. "There is nothing in this bill that will prevent Americans from keeping their current doctors and current health care plans at any time. If any other wording in this bill is found to conflict with this commitment than
any and all rules, regulations, and stipulations set forth in this bill automatically expire 30 days after said finding. The federal government may only set a minimum on health insurance requirements. Neither the federal government nor the state governments may prohibit or tax health insurance that provides coverage above the minimum requirements. An enrollment period will be held at least once a year during which all covered Americans will be allowed to switch between the government run and privately plans. "
2. If at any time the General Budget Office determines this bill is not deficit neutral over a rolling three year period then all rules, regulations, and stipulations set forth in this bill automatically expire 30 days after said finding.
3. No monies for funding this bill shall be obtained by raising taxes on families with a taxable icome less than $250,000.
I am also hoping you will support the democratic statements that the government run option will not be unfairly subsidized by requiring the following language:
4. If at anytime the public health insurance option is subsidized either in the form of taxes, surplus equipment, loans, or any other form then the language in this bill providing for a public option will automatically expire. If this clause is overturned by the courts then this entire bill and all rules, regulations, and stipulations based on it will automatically expire 30 days after the courts decision.
This proposed wording basically puts on paper the statements being made by those already in favor of the healthcare bill.
Item 1 is based on President Obamas remarks on Health Care at N.H. Town Hall Meeting on Aug. 11, 2009 shown at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/11/AR2009081102461.html

If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan. You will not be waiting in any lines. This is not about putting the government in charge of your health insurance.
I don't believe anyone should be in charge of your health- insurance decisions but you and your doctor."

Back to that 47 million number of "uninsured".
Barry's "Health Care Reform" has morphed into "Health Care Insurance Reform". So insurance has to be MANDATORY? Why? There are young people who'd rather spend their money on something else. Isn't that their choice? There are others moving from one job (insurance company) to another (insurance company). Using the governments own (and unverified) number. There are 12 million ILLEGAL's in this country. When did "health care" become a "right" for them? No one refuses them emergency care at hospitals (FREE of charge). But when did we become responsible to provide them with health care? Barry too fucking lazy to bill Mexico? What is the REAL NUMBER of uninsured in this country because they are TOO POOR to provide for their own health insurance? I've been to POOR countries. I've seen POOR people. I've also seen the data on who is considered POOR in the US. The POOR own cars, air conditioners, television sets, cell phones, have on-line internet service, get subsidized housing, get food stamps, the list goes on. Just who are the people who honestly cannot afford coverage? NOT BY CHOICE ('cause I just gotta get that new HD wide-screen TV) but by circumstance? I'll wager the total number isn't anywhere near freakin' 47 million.

My guess, because it's not about health care or insurance reform. I do believe their switching to the term "insurance reform" got us closer to the actual goal however. Social Security receipts soon will not cover disbursements. Medicare has the same problem, only it happens a lot sooner. There is no "trust fund" or "lock box", both programs have been pay as you go since their inception.
So, the Feds need money. Lots of money. And they need it real soon if they are going to be able to continue to spend money on all the things they want to spend money on.
If they could only get their hands on those 401Ks and IRAs, like they were talking about doing earlier this year, they'd get lots of money. Well, were is all that money going now?
Look at what this Administration did once they got their hands on GM, Chrysler, and the investment banks. Assets went where the Administration wanted them to go. Does anyone doubt they would do whatever they pleased if they got their hands on the insurance companies. And their plan for a"robust public option" would damage those insurance companies in a major way. Too big to fail, we bail them out and the Administration gets to have their way with them as well.
Do I know this to be true? No! But it fits the facts of what has happened is now happening a lot better than Barack's story does.

He noted a congressional estimate that legislation being considered in the Senate could cost $800 billion to $900 billion over ten years.
But he said there were ways to find money other than raising taxes, including streamlining the system and eliminating what he said were subsidies to insurance companies.
Other ways. He did not say their will be a tax increase. Of course I think he will anyway.

How do we "usher them off-stage"? Easy. Simply deny them care...or delay it (which for older folks is the same thing!).
If you watched the video of "older folks" from a DEEP BLUE District of Brooklyn getting in the face of their DEMOCRAT Congressman, you know that the "older folks" understand this math VERY well!!
For some reason the "Greatest Generation" isn't ready to be ushered off-stage...and we Baby Boomers aren't either. For some other reason those two demographics also have the highest percentage of gun ownership. Jus' sayin'.

Yes, it conflates saying "We've got to get the money from somewhere" with an imaginary announcement of a tax increase. It's out of the bill for now, so fairly irrelevant, but since you asked Bruce. Let's "connect the dots". Liberals like to "connect the dots".
The 'death panel' isn't spelled out in plain language. It actually started with an interview with Your Master. The question being dealt with was "cost reduction". Your Master responded:
"I mean, the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health care bill out here."
DAVID LEONHARDT: So how do you -- how do we deal with it?
"Well, I think that there is going to have to be a conversation that is guided by doctors, scientists, ethicists. And then there is going to have to be a very difficult democratic conversation that takes place. It is very difficult to imagine the country making those decisions just through the normal political channels. And that's part of why you have to have some independent group that can give you guidance. It's not determinative, but I think has to be able to give you some guidance. And that's part of what I suspect you'll see emerging out of the various health care conversations that are taking place on the Hill right now."
Now you're elderly and need an operation. Do you discuss with your doctor? Not according to Your Savior. You've got your doctor, a 'scientist' and an 'ethicist' - kinda like a "panel". They will make those 'difficult decisions'. They will provide "direction". HUH? IF IT'S MY OPERATION, I'LL MAKE THE DECISION.
So, Bruce, lets play some more "connect the dots". In the House Bill HR3200, there WAS mention of a 'panel' to 'discuss measures' related to reduction of health care costs.
Can you connect the dots?

#45 Retired Military - How right you are. All those promises, and all broken. promises mean nothing to a liar, schemer, a coward, an unAmerican, and a criminal. He has no principles, no morals, no conscience, and no class. He disses our military and snubs those who oppose him. When he said "I WON" he was disillusional. He didn't win. The office was bought for him by ACORN, SEIU, Code Pink, etc. He couldn't win a fair election if his life depended on it.
I am the proud wife and mother of a husband, son, and daughter who served proudly to protect our country. He served nada. The last 2 Republican presidents we had served our country, the last to Democratic presidents didn't serve a day between them.
Just my opinion

In every campaign speech promises are made. Usually, when the candidate wins, some promises are kept and some are broken. I can't think of a single one Obama made that he's kept, except he did say under his breath "I'll out tax, out lie, out deceive any past president, I swear to God." He did keep that promise.

#41 - If there was never a mention of a death panel to begin with which the Dems claimed there was not, how come after all the uproar, they now say they took it out. How can you take something out if it was never there? HUH? HUH?
Just asking

Now the Administration is signaling willingness to drop the "public option" from ObamaCare.
No one forget, incramentalism is everything to the Dems. As long as they get to stand up the Christmas tree, they can always hang the ornaments on it another time.
