Cash-strapped Cuba says toilet paper running short
Cuba, in the grip of a serious economic crisis, is running short of toilet paper and may not get sufficient supplies until the end of the year, officials with state-run companies said on Friday.Officials said they were lowering the prices of 24 basic goods to help Cubans get through the difficulties provoked in part by the global financial crisis and three destructive hurricanes that struck the island last year.
Cuba's financial reserves have been depleted by increased spending for imports and reduced export income, which has forced the communist-led government to take extraordinary measures to keep the economy afloat.
"The corporation has taken all the steps so that at the end of the year there will be an important importation of toilet paper," an official with state conglomerate Cimex said on state-run Radio Rebelde.
The shipment will enable the state-run company "to supply this demand that today is presenting problems," he said.
I'm sure the Cuban people are resting well tonight, secure in the knowledge that Havana's central planners have that whole "supply and demand" thing well under control. In a worker's paradise, it is a privilege to have funky butt for six months. Comrade Fidel expects nothing less from every patriotic Cuban.
But I'd bet that toilet paper is never in short supply in the Presidential Palace.

Everyone must sacrifice; time to get skin in the game; time to be part of the deal.
Wanna bet Fidel's wiping his ass just fine?

Hey when we run out of TP maybe we can use the constitution...that is if Obama hasn't already used it himself.

Why isn't Michael Moore over in Cuba "sharing the sacrifice"? Or have the Cubans figured that, with his fat ass, he'd use 4 times as much TP as one of their own people would?
I'm sure Fidel could hit up Sean Penn for a donation to buy some TP at Walmart for him.
Yep, got them a real "Worker's Paradise" over there.

You obviously do not know this but in Cuba the poop comes out clean and hard. There is no annoying protein and junkfood, ( or food of any kind for that matter) to get in the way of a clean bowel movement. Now pass me my Pina Colada and Bottoms UP!

I have friends that traveled to E.Europe when it was still behind the Iron Curtain. They always took lots of toilet paper to give to their friends and to bribe government officials but, mostly for their own use. Something about us Americans taking showers every day and keeping our fanny clean that truly separates from the rest of the world. If Obamalala has his way there won't be much separating us from the rest of the world.
ODA315, In a repressive socialist state like Cuba Castro wouldn't think of depriving a "worker" the benefit of a job paid for by the state. He has someone else wipe his butt.

Please delete this thread before Congress starts thinking of ways to put a consumption tax on toilet paper. You never know if they read Wizbang for ideas.

This gets back to how people will tell you how wonderful things are in the Communist and Socialist countries. Things are always great there according to the statistics. Which are handed out by the same people who run the country, and which are not, by any stretch, available for honest review.
It's when you find out things like "no toilet paper," or see photos of an average "hospital," that you get a real idea of how things are really going there.
Ditto for many of the statistics from the less-socialist countries - you hear about how Europe has all of that wonderful free health care, but you start to get an idea of how un-wonderful it is when you notice the large number of well-off Europeans who come to the US for treatment of even minor ailments.
