Today's winner is San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. He gets the award for the following-
This week, the City Insider spotted an almost empty case of bottled water in the back of Mayor Gavin Newsom's hybrid sport utility vehicle as it was parked in front of City Hall. At least one full bottle of Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water remained under the plastic covering.Hypocritical politicians are nothing new, but I'm not going to give this one a break. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom you are today's Knucklehead of the Day.This from the mayor who in June 2007 issued an executive order directing city government to no longer purchase bottled water, saying the containers clog landfills while the city owns a pristine reservoir in the Sierra Nevada that produces some of the country's best-rated tap water.
Newsom, a former restaurateur, last year called on the restaurant industry to stop selling bottled water to customers and start serving local tap water instead.
Because of that, the mayor generally declines bottled water at any event or meeting, lest he be photographed with an offending bottle.
The mayor sometimes slips, said his spokesman, Nathan Ballard. But in this case, the bottled water belonged to the mayor's security detail and wasn't purchased with city funds, Ballard said.
"The mayor will be the first to admit that he occasionally indulges in bottled water," Ballard said. "It's not something he's proud of."

I sincerely doubt the mayor hauls water in his SUV for the security detail. Besides, haven't they heard of canteens or camelback resevoir in San Francisco?
I find no problem with bottled water. In fact even though my tap-water is excellent, I keep several cases around the house. Tap water doesn't always run and bottled water stores very conveniently.
Water bottles are highly recyclable. Instead of demonizing them and their users the green-groups and local governments could just make it easier to recycle them. Place an rycycle bin that is easy to access and easy to use at aevery major store that sells bottled water and many, many more woud be recycled instead of dumped in the land-fill. As far as bottles taking up to much space in land fills, they could be ground (as well as most trash) or flattened to take up less space. Trash that has been ground, pulverized, reduced etc takes up a lot less space since it can be packed down.

Wouldn't say he was a knucklehead, rather, he's your typical liberal Democrat. Do as they say, not as they do. You know, like these bottles of water or paying your taxes...

He's the same hypocrite that had his re-election campaign manager resign after he confronted the mayor about an affair Newsom had with his wife while she worked in the mayor's office.
Yep, a real shining example of how the rest of his party behaves. Laws apply to thee but not to me is their motto.

As Matt insinuated, have these dopes not heard of recycling?
Recycling in this country should be touted as a giant success story of the environmentalist movement.

The shame of bottled water addicts is a burden made twice as heavy by the knowledge that starting or joining an actual Bottled Water Anonymous 12-step group would be laughable on its face and disturbing at its core.
