Once again those that cling to guns are showing bitterness in the change soon coming to the White House. Gun sales during the week Obama was elected jumped nearly 49% driven by fears that Obama and a Democrat run Congress will usher in stricter gun control laws.
On Sunday Obama tried to alleviate worries.
"I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment," Obama said at a news conference. "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word."
Gun-buyers find little reassurance in Obama's weekend statement.
But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words -- but his legislative track record -- that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores."Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold," Arulanandam said.
It is clear that to reassure gun-buyers Obama is going to have to do more than tell them he believes in the second amendment. His track record speaks volumes and when he tries to suggest that he is supportive of gun ownership, one only need to think about a statement he said on the campaign trail.
And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
It is understandable why gun-buyers can't seem to take President-elect Obama at his word.

AND you have his administration job questionnaire that asks if any member of the job seeker's family owns a firearm, what kind of firearm, is it "registered", for what purpose is it used, etc.
Anyone with balls SHOULD answer "None of your fucking business".

Gun Industry Profits Off NRA's Fearmongering About Obama Gun Policies
"The National Rifle Association plans to spend about $40 million on this year's campaign, with $15 million of that devoted to portraying Barack Obama as a threat to the Second Amendment rights. ... This fall, NRA members will get automated phone calls, mail pieces and pre-election editions of the group's three magazines making the case against Obama."

We are taking Obama at his word - that is why people like me are stocking up on firearms that look evil, accessories that will probably be baned, and other such things.
Oh, he means to take him at his current word... with liars and prevaricators like Obama, it is sometimes hard to figure out what he is talking about...

It is not hard to believe in the second amendment. It takes no faith to see that it is real, it was ratified, hell he can even look at the original document and touch it since he is going to be its protector.
Does he UNDERSTAND what it says? Does he Believe that it means what it says?
He sure doesn't act like he does when he also believes in "common-sense gun laws"!

Yeah, just so long as we all obey the new laws that are sure to be on their way from his freedom-hating comrades in Congress.
Obama believes in gun rights like Hitler believed in the freedom of religion.

Are you implying that a politician would lie about policy? I'm shocked! Shocked!
Has anyone started a list of policy reversals for President-Elect Obama? Off the top of my head I seem to recall that taxes on the rich were going to pay for health care, but the other day the Office of the President-Elect [giggle] announced that the taxes on the rich were being "delayed". He promised to go after Big Oil, but now he is backing off. When a guy gets elected President and the first order of business is to delete all of his campaign promises from his web site, you don't get that warm, fuzzy feeling.
There is a much better reasons why people are buying guns. People are looking at the future for this country and not liking what they see. That is why many people are selling off their holdings in the stock market and moving investments off-shore. I've been saying for years that the future for terrorism is in small collections of cells hitting soft targets - particularly hitting middle America. Recent events show that that idea is a realistic strategy. People are preparing for the possibility that the future will be chaos.
Hope for the best. Plan for the worst.

Interesting that the article has some tool stating that it is all current gun owners buying. Hmm. I just bought my first handgun, a little Walther P22. Been out shooting 5 times since I bought it. Fun!

One of my friendly neighborhood gun dealers prominently displays a large picture of Obama in his shop with the following caption underneath:
"FIREARMS SALESMAN OF THE YEAR."
Hey, His Majesty Barack the First hasn't even been anointed with oil yet, and he's already ensured the firearms and ammunition industry will be recession-proof. Is there nothing he can't do? ;)
