Most times, when you're deeply asleep and dreaming and you hear an odd noise, you can often integrate it into the dream and reconcile it with whatever is tickling your subconscious. I'm particularly good at that.
But when it's a wet-vac running in the next room, that tends to wake you up.
It turns out that a sprinkler head blew in the apartment above me, and about half my kitchen and living room turned into Niagara Falls while I was sawing wood.
I didn't want to disturb any of my friends at 2 in the morning on a Sunday, so I'm now at work, where I'm lucky enough to have a key and internet access. Oh, and a handy Denny's in case I get hungry.
Renter's insurance? What's that?

Oh man, Jay, that suuuuucks. I'm empathetic. I had a friend whose upstairs neighbor thought it would be a good idea to de-thaw their hamburger meat in the sink with the water running. Naturally the meat clogged the drain, they left the house to go to the hot tub, forgot about the sink, went out and had drinks...and many thousands of dollars later....
Ouch...
Hope none of your stuff got to badly damaged!!!

Lovely. Not! But your woes remind me of when I used to live in this apt near Wrigley Field. My upstairs neighbors were two party-hearty Loyola undergrads. One night around 1:30 am I awoke to water rushing down from the cieling fan. Turns out one of their "guests" had fallen down drunk whilst walking into the W.C. and shattered the tank. Being an old building, the floors were a bit sloped, meaning all the water went right down to me.
Good times!

Ouch, Jay, that sucks. I used to live in a basement apartement where every so often when the upstairs neighbors flushed their toilet, their piss and shit would somehow come up out of my toilet and shower drain. I feel your pain.

Oh man. I hope the damage to any of your personal belongings isn't too great. Water damage ain't no fun. Been there, done that.
Now go out and get renter's insurance. It isn't expensive.

Everybody sing! "Raindrops are fallin' on my head'...
Been there. Busted pipe on Christmas Eve soaked all the presents we had hidden in the linen closet in the bathroom. That was fun.

As a New Orleanian, I am going to tell you the same thing I got on these boards after my hometown was destroyed by floods. STOP YOUR WHINING! Pick yourself up by your bootstraps. Hey, your apartment should not exist anyway. How STUPID can you be to live in a place where sprinkler systems can break?
Of course, I don't agree with any of those statements. I am sorry for your problems. I hope your life is back to normal SOON! Good luck!
P.S. Insurance is a racket. Ask anyone in LA or MS.

My first thought at seeing that headline was a HALO flashback.
JT, sorry about the damage. Hope the loss isn't bad. But, dude, get some renter's insurance. If you need help paying, I'm in. Just ask.

Of course, if JT starts blaming FEMA or is still living in a .gov trailer 2 years from now, well then I'll wonder...
I don't agree with those statements either.
