He died of cancer yesterday. What was your favorite Crichton book? I admit not to reading all of them, The Andromeda Strain(Which BTW the 1971 version is on television as I type this post.) might be my choice. Disclosure would be at the other end. The AP article makes a goof and calls Crichton's 2004 novel State of Fear, State of Favor. Maybe Hillel Italie became unhinged due to the book's presentation of Global Warming. I doubt the error about how long a tsunami in the novel would take to reach the shore was caught by many people(besides me). The AP article did tell me Crichton was 6'9, something I didn't know.
Thank you for all the great books Michael Crichton and RIP.

My favorite book was Sphere, though State of Fear was very good as well. What a loss. Didn't he start "ER" too?

I remember my first book was 'Jurassic Park', and got so hooked, and went out and got 'The Terminal Man', 'Congo', 'Sphere', 'The Andromeda Strain', and later read 'Timeline', 'Disclosure', 'Airframe' and 'The Lost World'. I kinda fell off the wagon after that, but not for any reason other than I just wasn't keeping up.
Hard to saw which one I liked the best, they were all so fun.
Terrible news, RIP my friend, and thanks for the many hours of enjoyable entertainment.

Eaters of the Dead. By far his best. The 13th Warrior was a pale imitation of Crichton's novel (as were most of the movie adaptations of his novels, Congo being the worst).

I am very sorry to hear of Michael Crichton's death. I had not known he was fighting cancer. The most relevant production of his for me is "ER" for which he has ever been the executive producer. This is ER's 15th and last season. I will miss it when it's gone.
To me, 66 is a young age to die and I will always wonder what other captivating creation might have come forth from him. Rest in Peace Mr. Crichton and thanks for the superb entertainment over the years.

My apologies to the shade of Michael Crighton. 13th Warrior was a pale imitation of Eaters of the Dead. Brain was still whirling from his loss when I typed. Have to agree that the movie Congo had to have been about the worst possible.

Tall people don't live as long. (Neither do famous authors.)
As a tall person, this both saddens and chills me. I'm shelving the Next Great (North) American Novel.

I've read pretty much all of his books, and loved them all. I would be hard pressed to name a favorite.
But more than an author, the man was one of the most capable critical thinkers ever to live. He had a way of cutting through the BS right to the heart of a matter, which made him political enemies on both sides of the fence, but he loved cold hard facts.

He wrote some great books, but I can never forgive him for writing and or approving the 2000-2001 season of ER. My wife was pregnant at the time and it seemed like every Thursday night they were killing, maiming and hurting mothers, Mothers to be, or Babies. I would come home at 10:45 at night and my wife would be crying over some scene or plot, and I just wanted to meet him in a back alley somewhere.
