Yesterday we heard that John McCain appears to be pulling his campaign out of Michigan. Well, Sarah's not having any of that and she told Carl Cameron today that she shot off an email to the McCain camp saying that she and Todd are willing to go and campaign in Michigan together. This is what I love about her. She's a fighter. When things are not necessarily in her favor, she doesn't give up. She gets out there and goes on offense.
As a Michigander, I say You Go Girl! I love her fighting spirit. She and Todd both connect so well with those Reagan union Democrats and the more they hear from the real Sarah - not the edited, artificial Sarah the MSM tries to manufacture - the more they like her. Get her out there and try to make Michigan red.

Realistically, McCain will win 82 (of 83) counties in Michigan by several hundred thousand votes, but Obama will win Wayne County by several hundred thousand votes and most likely more then enough to overtake McCains lead in the entire rest of the state. (I wish we used an electoral college by county system in this state.)
Anyway, I was disappointed, but not surprised, by McCain's announcement yesterday. And with all the big money behind Obama it is wise for McCain to concentrate his limited resources where they will be most effective.
I do applaud Palin's williness to try. Reagan did win Michigan back in the day. Can Palin? Hard to say. If she did the MSM would go insane.

Having just left Michigan a few months ago, after living there for two years, I have to say that Detroit is a drain on the rest of the state in every imaginable way. That said, it would be a real tossup. The Democrats have a slight lead there in many ways, but if the McCain campaign could use Kwame Kilpatrick as an example of what is wrong, ideologically, with Obama, that might resonate enough in the rest of the state to drive up turnout enough to overcome Detroit and Ann Arbor. Hard to say. It's at least not an illogical decision on the campaign's part.

The McCain Campaign is wisely attempting to save resources for must win states like Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio, where a loss in any one of these states will spell defeat in November. Scott Elliot's Election Projection with it's highly accurate electoral college projection has McCain badly trailing Obama by 183 Electoral votes to 353 as of today.
Palin is certainly welcome to campaign anywhere she wants to. But likely the McCain Campaign wants to concentrate efforts where some hope remains and not waste valuable funds on lost causes like Michigan. The McCain Campaign needs to concentrate time and money in a base of states to prevent an electoral college landslide loss. But the Obama Campaign is spending as much as $40 million just to take critical states like Florida from McCain, so wasting time and funds on lost cause states like Michigan make little sense at this point.

Let Sarah and Todd load up the clan in the minivan and drive all around Michigan (it's next to a foreign country, you know) even though McCain isn't campaigning there anymore. Works for McCain: she can't do him any damage if nobody's paying her any attention. Works for me: I won't to have to hear her anymore. On November 6, she can just fill 'er up and keep on going straight back to Alaska (next to Russia, more or less). Just one thing, Caribou Barbie: tell Todd to stay away from Detroit. And Ann Arbor. Nah, wbgonne - I figure 4 years of Obama, if he gets elected, will be enough to kill the credibility of the Democratic party completely. It's almost at a critical level now - even with the media in the tank for them.
And it's really kind of odd, you thinking that just because the Republicans have been in the majority for 6 years, and the Democrats for 2, that there's no way the Democrats could have any effect on legislation while the Republicans were in the majority. If a supermajority is needed to pass something, it doesn't matter if you've got a simple majority of Republicans or Democrats - a stubborn few can stop legislation cold. If something never gets out of comittee - it doesn't matter if it's the best legislation in the world. And the partisan rancor in the last 8 years has likely kept some good stuff far from passing.
And Pelosi and Reid have been VERY partisan in the last couple of years.

And another thing: Bill O'Reilly was an absolute DISGRACE in how he treated Barney Frank on his show the other night. Whatever you think of him, Frank is a sitting U.S. Congressman, chair of the House Banking Committee and he's been working his ass off trying to pass legislation that the Bush Administration proposed. Regardless of how you feel about the bailout -- I have been unequivocally opposed to it -- to treat Congressamn Frank that way was repulsive. One last thing: If Keith Olbermann ever "hung up" on a Republican Congressman during a live interview, you all would be calling for a boycott of his show, if not for his banishment or lynching.
