Biden started out too lack a daze by laughing at the first question. Palin was a little nervous at first. Palin is really gung ho. I like her.

I think it was clear here that Sarah can hold her own with these blowhard senate veterans. She came out looking a little nervous, but hit her points and quickly eased into it. She had no problem sticking it to Biden/Obama. My only issues were the global warming nonsense and some of the maverick talk. I know she needs to support mccain and talk him up, but i think she spends a little bit too much time doing that. Other than that, she was fantastic. It seemed like Biden was making some fairly outrageous claims, like something about spain or whatever he was talking about... Bottom line, Biden held his discipline, no gaffes, but came off like a typical senate tool.

Biden was terrific: thoughtful, knowledgeable, avuncular, engaging. He could not have been better. I think he'll be a terrific VP.
Palin memorized 30 short speeches (or maybe they were implanted in her brain) and then presented them, sometimes queasily-folksy, other times like somebody who had just memorized the Gettysburg address and was praying that she didn't slip into the Pledge of Allegiance by mistake; sometimes when the speeches were appropriate, sometimes when they were complete non sequiturs. Palin was going through her speeches, one by one, gosh darnit, and the Mainstream Media could just try to stop her.
Gwen Ifill, unfortunately, was awful. She could have e-mailed her questions for all the interactivity and spontaneity she brought to the debate; I think there was only a single moment when she actually responded to one of Palin's inane remarks. I don't think that this will hurt Obama in any way, but it is yet another reminder that a lousy press corps does serious damage to the nation. Too bad Katie Couric didn't moderate. She recognized and called Palin on her BS. I think Palin would have folded under even moderate pressure, but she got none and muddled through.
But really, folks: The White House?

Biden did his usual fantastic job, if somewhat suspect on some of the facts. He is an experienced debater in the world's greatest deliberative body, the Senate. And Joe is one of the best at what he does. With the exception of playing fast and loose with some of the facts, which only a few undecideds will even care about, Joe was Joe.
What I did notice is that he started imitating Palin. The Home Depot crack was priceless and maybe even true. And a clear attempt to imitate Palin.
The reason he did it is because Joe is good at what he does and he knew he was in trouble.
His body language when he showed up was one of confidence. He thought he was in charge. And why not, Palin didn't exactly hit home runs with either Gibson or Cranky. She had not come up to speed on how it is done - see the Tony Snow link on another thread.
Palin is a fast learner. In other words, very, very bright.
And for wbgonne (please) nobody can memorize a bunch of talking points in the time she had; she knew her stuff and when she didn't, she played the game the way it is supposed to be played and Ifill let her; she changed the subject to something she wanted to say that was on topic.
Simply put, Biden was outclassed and he knew it. You could tell by his responses and body language as time passed. Palin is not only smart, she is a world class communicator. As Dick Morris said, she is another Reagan.
And she proved it tonight.
