The head Kossack has spoken: the way to help Obama win is to be as disgusting as possible.
I'm not about to revert to writing puff pieces about Obama thinking that his magic "new politics" bullshit will carry us to victory. He may or may not believe that crap, but I don't. We're going to win this thing the way campaigns are won -- by playing hardball. Politics is a blood sport. Republicans understand this and never flinch from flinging the shit. We won't win until we learn to fight back in kind. And I'm more than happy to get down in the mud with our friends on the Right so Obama doesn't have to.
So far, before this pronouncement, Daily Kos has managed to achieve the following:
- Sarah Palin's youngest son is her grandson -- Trig is actually her daughter's son, possibly by Palin's husband.
- Sarah Palin belonged to a radical Alaskan separatist group.
- Sarah Palin tried to ban books at the city library when she was mayor.
- Sarah Palin slashed funding for helping pregnant teens.
- Sarah Palin slashed funding for special needs students.
All these either started or were heavily pushed by diarists at Daily Kos, and spread around the internet at the speed of light. I'd link to each of the original articles, but Kos has a policy that when an article proves too embarrassing, they delete it, attempting to destroy any evidence that it ever happened. (In legal matters, this is known as "obstruction of justice." Historically, it's best exemplified by the Soviet Union's constant rewriting of its history -- a practice Orwell described brilliantly in "1984.")
Kos' honesty is refreshing, if nothing else. He admits that he's right down in the mud, flinging whatever he can and hoping that something will stick. And by his site's past performance, "truth" is utterly irrelevant.
When will Barack Obama choose to distance himself from this? When will he take down his diary at Kos?
I ain't holding my breath. But just keep this in mind -- if you hear any negative stories about McCain and Palin, and they can be traced back to Daily Kos, you're probably pretty safe in assuming that it's not only bullshit, but that the opposite of whatever it says is true.

I agree 100 percent Jay, and particularly love the "1984" reference to rewriting history! Hadn't thought of it that way, but it does fit.

Yeah the mudslinging is working SO well for them so far. It's almost too good to believe they intend to get worse. It hasn't worked, and more of it isn't going to start working.
It's actually galvanizing independents to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket.

This is just typical leftist thinking. If a government program proves to be a complete and utter failure the Democrats always want to dump even more money into it as if the only problem is that the failed program was underfunded.
In much the same way, so far the Kossack's attacks have only helped McCain-Palin and hurt their Messiah, so their solution: more and worse attacks.
You've got to admire their consistancy if not their narrow-mindedness.

If he really wanted to help Obama, he'd disemploy himself from the blogging business, which by it's very mean-spirited nature, has caused nothing but sympathy for McCain/Palin from "normal" people. But since he won't do that, he is a useful idiot to the GOP and just doesn't know it. That's a boon to us conservative-minded folk, so let him fling all the BS he wants.

This is the fallacy of blaming the whole, for the action of one of it's parts.

Yup, JC, it was one diary that pushed the "Trig is Bristo's son" lie.
And one diary that said Palin cut spending for pregnant teens.
And one diary that said Palin slashed funding for special needs students.
And one diary that said Palin tried to ban books, and fired the librarian for not going along.
And one diary that said Palin was a radical Alaskan separatist.
Each of those got promoted and linked to and quoted over and over and over, even after they were "voted down."
How many times does it have to happen for you to start wondering if these aren't aberrations, but intentional? If these aren't flaws, but design features?
I've come to the conclusion that this is the INTENT of the Kossacks. Because it happens just too damned often to be an accident.
If the folks who own Kos actually acted like responsible owners, then this shit would happen a lot less. The fact that it constantly happens, over and over and over and over again, is proof that -- at the very least -- they don't mind it.

I have a question...why hasn't anyone who served with Kos in the Army shown up in an interview, to either support him or speak about his (lack of) character? Or have they and I have just missed it? Not claiming a conspiracy of silence or anything, just curious for one of the mover and shakers on the left to have been such a non-entity during his time in the service.

Snark aside, so what?! Seems to me ObamaMessiah just a couple months ago was all "anti-drilling," now, not so much and it's in obvious response to steady polling that suggest 70% or more of the public is for drilling offshore.
If you hadn't noticed, in Palin's case, that's called doing the bidding of the people that elected her.
In Obamas case it can be argued the shift was for political reasons and if elected he will revert to form and do all he can to prevent offshore drilling.
