***Bumped and Updated***
Here they are folks, excerpts from Sarah Palin's speech tonight.
"I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn't need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."
Woot!
"I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."
Yes!
"Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines...build more nuclear plants...create jobs with clean coal...and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."
Go, Sarah, go!
"Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."
I can't wait to see this speech.
Update: I LOVE SARAH PALIN!!!! Her speech left me breathless! I can't believe how well she did with all the pressure and the scrutiny. She delivered in spades. And to those in the mainstream media who were trying to force her off the ticket: NOT A CHANCE! You're all chumps! She and McCain played you!! Ha ha ha! I'm so jazzed right now.
So Wizbang readers, let me know what you thought.

She grew up in the job. She was re-elected. Her current popularity rating in Alaska is 76% and has approached 90% at times.

Barack Obama's was first elected to office in the Illinois State Senate in 1997, he since went on to become a U.S. Senator in 2005. He has a total of 11 years of experience in politics and elected office. A community organizer is NOT a formally elected political position.
Going back to her time on the City Council, she has 16 years of experience in politics and increasing levels of responsibility in various elected offices; City Council, Mayor, Chair of a State Commission, and Governor.
With only 6 years of government service why was John Edwards a suitable person to be a heartbeat away from the President and Sarah Palin is not?

With that out of the way, name me one single candidate running for any major political office that hasn't had their speech written for them?
Secondly, what in the speech varied from what is known of Palin's beliefs and stance on issues?
And finally, grab your modem & mouse and trot yourself back over the northern border and lick your many wounds received over the ADSCAM scandal that resulted in the Liberal Party of Canada and then government of Prime Minister Paul Martin getting wiped off the political landscape because of corruption.

Willie, every single one of your posts supports my assertion that you are incapable of contributing an iota of substance to any discussion, heated argument, or apparently even post-speech hate-on-liberals high-five session. Here's your comment: "You're an idiot, I don't believe Obama wrote that speech (just because), and liberals are scared." I'm glad you shared that, it gives other people lots to think about and adds more depth to the debate on the qualifications of the politicians at the top of each ticket.
Anyway, Obama did write his famous speech on race. Nobody has ever asserted anything credible to the contrary, though you can show me links that prove otherwise and I'll read them. On the other hand, Rick Davis told reporters that her speech (written before she was even on the ticket) had to be reworked to make it less masculine. Good for her for being able to read, though. Good for her for convincing the conservative base that as a conservative she's a good Vice Presidential candidate. You guys like her so much that you're going to vote for the Republican presidential candidate--what a wizard that Sarah Palin is, getting the right wing to commit to the Republican Party! Geez, she just took the wind right out of Bob Barr and Ron Paul's sails.

Was Palin supposed to sway the right against her? There are also democrats voting for her. You're right there isn't much going on in your neck of the woods, so you have to come to an American blog just to state obvious truths as if they're enlightening, with a touch of sarcasm. As I flipped through the channels I kept hearing the same theme over and over "It was a good speech but she didn'nt write it" Finally, one of the CNN tlking heads asked why they kept repeating that charge but didn't make the same charge against any of the male speakers who also didn't write their own speech. The whole "she didn't write her speech" is a Dem Talking Point. The first official response out of the Obama campaign listed the fact that she didn't write the speech, immediately after the speech all of the various pundits on CNN, Fox and MSNBC commented about how she didn't write the speech. Amazing coincidence there.
I saw both Brit Hume on Fox and one of the CNN talking heads catch that and question why they were repeating that same phrase and why they only raised that as a concern about her and nobody else.
One of the talking heads read some of the Dem Talking Points right off his Blackberry, and one was that the speech was "snide". A few minutes later as I flipped through the channels I started hearing different reporters on different channels using the word "snide" to describe the speech, as if that was their own opinion.
Then Harry Reid sent in his response, and he called the speech "shrill". A few minutes later on different channels the word "shrill" started popping up.
The best exchange about the word "shrill" came between Campbell Brown and Paul Begala. Campbell Brown said that she and some of the other women took some offense at the word "shrill" because it is a derogatory word only used against women. Paul Begala started defending the word and started using it.
If that word had been used in connection with Hilary he would have been livid.

It was a great speech. I've read where liberals are saying it was "sarcastic", "snide", and "shrill". After what's been said about her since last Friday, and the accusations McCain didn't vet her well enough...well, what the hell did they expect? All sweetness and light? They got the snide right back at them, and rightfully so.
I also listened to a local FM light rock radio station here this morning with a couple of nitwit FM morning show talking heads on saying, "I don't know what to do, I didn't learn anything about her. I know she's a pit bull with lipstick." As if, in a 30 minute speech to the Republican National Convention, she's supposed to lay out everything she believes in so she can convince them she's the right choice? Yeah, right. That's what the debates are for...and so is the internet. I guess some people are too stupid to do their own research.

I am tired of hearing all the bickering and no one doing anything. Palin listens to the people, not the politicians. I want my voice heard and being from the midwest in a small town I'm pretty sure it won't be heard if the other ticket wins.
And Obama pretending to only raise taxes on the rich while creating a bunch of new business taxes seems sneaky. As someone recently said, that only matters if you buy from a business, work at a business, live near a business. Hey, I never said it was a bad speech. It was pointed and focused. Good for her for being able to read it with conviction. And judging by how pumped up everybody here is, seems it was exactly the political Viagra that McCain's campaign needed. It's a race again! (Well, we'll see after the 3-day rolling polls are in, but it's safe to say that Obama likely lost some or all of his 8 point margin.)
As to the comment about how I'm probably upset about the Liberal government in Canada losing power because of a (gasp!) hundred million dollar scam (stated in a Dr. Evil voice), that's a pretty stupid assumption. I don't like our Conservative Prime Minister but I'd prefer him to the Liberal and New Democrat who will be running against him. While he has a hate on for urban Ontario and Quebec, and has zero charisma, he is nevertheless a competent policy wonk, and in the States he'd be considered a socialist.
