John McCain says in an address to the nation that it's important to forget party politics and stand together as a nation, so he's canceling the majority of the RNC's opening night activities except those that are "absolutely necessary."
One of the activities that is absolutely necessary includes having a quorum to legally convene and constitute the convention. That process will begin at 3:00pm and last until 5:30pm, which means all nighttime activities such as speeches are canceled.
Keep in mind this change in agenda applies only to Monday night.

Folks, if the country gets to compare Dems celebrating themselves under a massive Superbowl-style storm of fireworks and confetti (which is exactly what it looked like, at a football stadium no less), and Repubs (the Govs of all three target states TX, LA, and MS are all Repubs) canceling their celebration to help people cope with a massive real storm, it is going to be inescapably obvious which party is the one dedicated to helping the people, and which is the one dedicated to using the people to make themselves feel like celebrities.

Damn, it's seeming like Chimpy and Cheney aren't going to show up at the Republican Convention! Had they appeared, that REALLY would have killed off McCain, right, conservatives?

I never have any doubt whatsoever of what party has the real compassion and concern. Dems only talk it, conservatives walk it. ww

Mr. Sisson,
Are you implying that the Dems should have called off their convention last week because there was a hurricane coming this week?
Do think the GOP wouldn't be partying just as hardy this week if it weren't for Gustav?

Yeah, that's why he's going to bring "a small pool of reporters" with him when he visits, and is considering giving his acceptance speech from the affected area.
Because nothing brings the nation together like using a disaster area as a prop for your convention.

It sure isn't impressing me much. It reeks of desperation, and the more they try it the less attractive the Democratic party line looks.
Frankly, I think they're eroding their base a hell of a lot faster than they're adding to it with the tactics they're using.

I don't get this reference. Maybe it is because I am far to intelligent to waste time on a movie made for cretins. I'm sure it's standard fare for you though.
