Hot Buttered Soul was an instant "Classic" for those who discovered music in the 1970's.

I loved his Chef character on SOUTH PARK and was deeply saddened when he left over a dispute over how his Scientologist religion was treated with humor on one show. Issac Hayes seemed like such a great guy who had a nice sense of humor despite his macho tough guy image he projected, and it was deeply surprising that he quit over just these jokes.
On Conan O'Brien's show, Issac Hayes was always a great guest and did one of the best versions of his classic SHAFT song ever on this show with a big string section.
Hayes had a successful radio show for years and was a popular radio fixture for years. His records were classic with his deep masculine voice compared to so many singers.
Hayes was a legend. He will be deeply missed by me. What a great life he had. He was the essence of cool.
