The media is just fawning over Barack Obama's "celebration" with his wife Michelle over the news that he clinched the nomination. They did the fist bump (followed by a little ass smacking)! That means Obama is hip! He's cool! He's authentic! He's in touch with the young voters!
Give me a freaking break. Here's the video. It is the most asinine thing for the press to get themselves worked up in a frenzy over, but of course, this is the Obamamessiah we're talking about here.
Yes... the press has nailed it. This is what we truly needed in a President... someone who can do the fist bump with his wife! Screw experience and knowledge. We'll take hipness and empty rhetoric over that any day!
Gag me.

Don't forget Bush had his own trademark hand gesture. The thumbs up gesture that the media gushed over.
Only he stopped doing it after many of the pictures of the Abu Ghraib showed soldiers emulating him as they were inflicting torture.

I dunno, I'm 26 years old and from what I can tell, touching fists has replaced the high-five as a more subtle and reserved congratulatory gesture amongst many athletes, artists, etc., albeit often in an ironic way amongst hipsters, (other) artists, etc.. Hey, my 60 year old British boss does it to be funny! Surely this was contrived--a PR person told them this would get lapped up--but that's the nature of the ugly political beast, isn't it? A handshake or hug would be too wooden; a kiss too ick; a high-five too loutish... This gesture is expressive of mutual respect and affection, with youthful flavour. Kind of fits their MO, doesn't it?
Where does it say in the job description that the President of the United States must be uncool, or anti-cool even? Who cares if the Brit Hume set is uncomfortable with all things remotely "urban" and/or contemporary?
I'm uncertain what about this bothers Cassie et al. Short of dropping out of the race or admitting he's a secret Muslim and apologizing for Stalin's war crimes, I don't think Barack Obama could do anything that wouldn't be subjected to ridicule in forums like this one. And frankly there are other things worth thinking about on a Friday afternoon. My office closes at 1:30 every Friday until Thanksgiving (Canadian), because my CEO is a man of the people (and owns a cottage two hours north, natch).

Say, microbrewed beer has got me rethinking intelligent design. Screw the complexity of the human eye, there is no way this is some mere cosmic accident. You might be happy to hear that American microbrews are all the rage in Toronto and Montreal (and probably Vancouver, but who cares). You beautiful people aren't afraid of hops.

Since when do you care about that cassy? You twice elected an ex-drunk, former coke addict, who ran two companies into the ground, and didn't know the difference between Shia and Sunni, because he was someone you'd most want to have a beer with.

And would do so again, were he running against Obama or Clinton.
