Your link about the navy coming to the rescue of the girl on the cruise reminded me of something that happened to us almost 30 years ago. When we lived in Key West my husband was in an accident that fractured his skull. That same night there was another accident on the 7 mile bridge that prevented and ambulance from transporting him to a hospital in Miami that was better equipped to care for him. The bridge was still out of commission ten hours later. As his condition deteriorated we were frantic and who came to the rescue? The United States Navy. They loaded him and I onto a helicopter without a second thought and had us there in 45 minutes.

Is he out of his god-forsaken mind?????
Poorly worded, in that it suggests that we actually engaged in the acts ourselves. We didn't, but we did allow it to happen.

In the minds of people like Brian, we (the US, that is) are omnipotent, and simultaneously incompetent.
It boggles the mind.

Brian, that's about as succinct a description of you and your comments I've seen.
Bravo.
You invite abuse, it's rude not to accept it.

See, this is what's wrong with America today. "Beverage of choice," indeed! We won WWII by drinking coffee, doggonit, not by sipping herbal teas or carbonated soft drinks.
;-)
Langtry ~ Yes, Moran is out of his mind. He has repeatedly demonstrated this over the years - not just with statements, but with actions which would get you or I locked up.

My little sister is stationed on the USS Ronald Reagan, and because one of her friends is one of the medical people, she was able to visit and meet the poor girl. She said she is very sweet, but could have been because she was quite doped up at the time, lol.

"Just how pale and insipid shoreside coffee is when compared with robust Navy joe is illustrated by an incident which occurred when a lady invited two hash-marked sailors to "tea." Having heard than Navy men like their coffee strong, she added an extra amount of coffee and allowed it to boil twice as long as normal. The visitors nodded approvingly when the beverage was served. When time came to leave, one turned gallantly to his hostess and remarked, "Ma'am, I wanna tell you that was the finest tea I've ever tasted." "
