Harry Ried officially bit off more than he can chew. He went after Rush Limbaugh saying he insulted the troops with his "phony soldiers" comments. That was a tactical mistake.
Reid has a long and storied history of insulting our troops, their commanders and being a lapdog of the anti-war left. His claims of support now don't ring true compared to past words and deeds.
Reid said the surge had failed and our troops had lost in Iraq. He said that by the way, before the surge even started. Reid called General Petraeus a liar. Which was very interesting considering he refused to meet with Petraeus for briefings on Iraq.
Harry Reid (the slimebag) himself supported the Moveon.org "Betray Us" ad.
When the anti-war left tells Reid to jump he asks, "How high?".
Reid even tried to cut funding for the troops he now claims he supports.
He claimed he supported the Moveon.org ad because it was "Free Speech". Reid believes in free speech so much He wants bloggers to be required to register with the Federal Government.
Ried is a Grade A Left-Wing Moonbat.
With all the other good news coming out of Iraq this month (see below) Reid has to change the subject. So he introduced a bill condemning Limbaugh in the Senate. Big mistake. The movone.org ad backfired on Democrats and so will this. The problem is Rush's comments where not egregious in any way. In fact, two days before Rush made his comments, ABC News used the same language and the same context to report on the Department of Justice crackdown called Operation Stolen Valor. -- As many people on the right know, there is a growing problem of "Phony Heroes." (Surprise! The Left has no idea what is important to our military!)
Adding to the Democrat's problem, the GOP has offered a resolution is support of Limbaugh, something nobody on the left could do with the moveon.org ad.
Mediamorons.org, the lefty freaks who started this are already hurting for the smackdown they got from Bill O'Reilly and FoxNews earlier this week from that phony controversy. They are now getting attention they don't want. And they are bringing Reid down with them.
Limbaugh, ever the showman and considerably smarter than the Democrats in the Senate, has issued an apology to the troops On behalf of Media Morons.org and Defeatist Democrats everywhere.
The last reason this will backfire for the Democrats, is now million of people will learn about anti-war poster child Jesse Macbeth and the embarrassment he was for the Democrats.
Two weeks from now Harry Reid and the Democrats in the Senate will be wishing this whole thing never happened and Rush's only regret is that it didn't happen during sweeps week.
For comparison, here is the ABC report 2 days BEFORE Rush's comments.
And Rush's comments

But when someone on the right says something stupid, you just can't admit it, and have to go dragging up every Harry Reid statement you can find to draw attention away. And then to have the actual US Congress, with all of the issues of the day, spend time on a resolution defending one of the most divisive personalities on the air? As I said, desperate.
Plus, guess what? None of this shit matters anyway. It's a fantasy if you think "millions of people will learn" about Jesse Macbeth, or that anyone will care about this in two weeks, much less regret it.

Jesse MacBeth
Maybe you should get out a little more Brian.
Maybe you should ask your Democrat congress people why they voted unanimously to pass the Stolen Valor Act of 2005 if they insist that what Rush ACTUALLY said was wrong?
http://www.homeofheroes.com/herobill/
In my eyes, condemning Jesse MacBeth, Scott Thomas Beauchamp and others just like them is a no-brainer. Maybe you side with people who come out with lies about the military and their service should be punished to the full extent of the law.
Maybe you don't agree with any of that. Maybe you do. Either way i have a feeling that if this were anyone else being smeared and taken out of context you would take issue with it. Just because it is Rush Limbaugh doesn't make it right to take him out of context and tell numerous lies in order to win an election in 2008.

Limbaugh called phoney soldiers "phoney soldiers" and noted how the left seems to embrace these people who embelish their war experiences (i.e lie) to disparage the troops. Jesse McBeth is the most obvious example.

Rush is a liar Paul, plain and simple. Your Link, is of him lying.
Any sane person can see it. Lets look at what happned:
Limbaugh had just finished arguing with a caller from Chicago who said he was an anti-war Republican who served in the military. Limbaugh said that was impossible -- Republicans aren't genuine unless they support Bush's Iraq policy. As for the caller's claim about military service, Limbaugh said, "Right. Right. Right, I know. And I, by the way, used to walk on the moon!" Limbaugh's argument wasn't subtle -- the caller couldn't have worn the uniform because he supports withdrawal.
The VERY NEXT caller also identified himself as currently serving in the military, and criticized those who disagree with Bush's policy.
The caller and Rush proceeded to agree how the left 's arguments make no sense to them before the following exchange:
CALLER 2: No, it's not, and what's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.
LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.
CALLER 2: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they're willing to sacrifice for their country.
LIMBAUGH: They joined to be in Iraq. They joined --
CALLER 2: A lot of them -- the new kids, yeah.
LIMBAUGH: Well, you know where you're going these days, the last four years, if you signed up. The odds are you're going there or Afghanistan or somewhere.
Look at the context of the calls. After basically saying one soldier can't be a soldier, because he supports withdrawl, Rush engages a second caller who says Real soldiers want to be in Iraq.
That sort of implies if you disagree with the the current policy you are not a real soldier. Rush agrees saying basicaly come on if you join you know where you are going.
Meaning Rush is lumping ALL Soldiers who critsize the current policy, who don't want to be in iraq as phony soldiers.
Hell, Rush doesn't even bring up jessie macbeth 'till like a minute and a half after the second exchange.
Rush smeared the troops, got in trouble and is trying to lie his way out of it. Since you will always support the right NO MATTER WHAT you are helping.

"BTW Hank, here is the transcript that proves that YOU are the liar."
Still waiting for you to prove anyhting that I have said is factually untrue... still waiting... anything...?
So uhm, to the unaddressed portion of my post, the point where I used logic based on evidence to demonstrate to any rational person (of which we now know to exclude Paul) that rush was clearly smearing veterans of war who disagree with current policy in iraq.
Call number one that immedietly preceded the phony soldiers comment.
CALLER 1: See, I -- I've used to be military, OK? And I am a Republican.
LIMBAUGH: Yeah. Yeah.
CALLER 1: And I do live [inaudible] but --
LIMBAUGH: Right. Right. Right, I know.
CALLER 1: -- you know, really -- I want you to be saying how long it's gonna take.
LIMBAUGH: And I, by the way, used to walk on the moon!
CALLER 1: How long do we have to stay there?
LIMBAUGH: You're not listening to what I say. You can't possibly be a Republican. I'm answering every question. That's not what you want to hear, so it's not even penetrating your little wall of armor you've got built up.
Now this demonstrates to any sane person, (again Paul don't count yourself in this category) That rush does not beleive the caller was millitary and if you look at the context of the call it was because he was not in favor of current Iraq policy.
In the next call where he makes the phony soldier comment the caller says that real soldiers in essance support the war. Rush agrees with this. Implying that you are not a real soldier if you don't (this is logic Paul don't worry if you don't get it you are not expected to)
So there we go. Rush certainly thinks Jesse is is a phony, but it is clear he is including anyone who disagrees with the president they are all jesse's in Rush's eyes.

We're fighting over words said by an entertainer. Think about it, folks. Rush does not make public policy, does not sway people over to his line of thinking, he is just there to entertain. Republicans listen to him because he fires them up, Democrats listen to him because he pisses them off. Ratings, folks, pure and simple.
Whether his statement was taken out of context, or this is just a case of back-peddling, Rush wins either way. Look at the buzz generated, and look at the spike in listeners he got out of it.
The fact that all of you are having a "I'm smarter than you" slug fest back and forth over three well placed words in a conversation just keeps that buzz going. For all we know, this was a carefully managed market strategy. And if it was, that's pure genius!

For all we know, this was a carefully managed market strategy. Riiiiiiiiight! Rush defends himself against a smear from OnlyHillary'sMediaMatters and it's clever marketing??? Hardly!

Man, I go away for a few days and you have an influx of people who downrate all your posts (including the short note to friend - dead giveaway that this is a Zerg-rush an not considered opinions), and Rush even manages to have John Sheridan moment. Wow.

Even before this assinine spouting of Harkins and Reid, I wouldn't trust the Democrats as far as I could spit. In my opinion they just proved themselves out to be the jerks they are.

Confirmation bias. There are good Democrats, even good Democrats who aren't DINOs.
