He'll be replaced by Dana Perino. Again, he's citing financial reasons for stepping down. He took a huge paycut when he accepted the position of White House Press Secretary. He was making more money as a radio talk show host but took the position anyway because he thought it was important. Here's the story from ABC News:
Tony Snow, the highly visible White House press secretary, will leave his job on Sept. 14 and be replaced by his deputy, Dana Perino, an administration official said Friday.President Bush was to announce the changes during an appearance in the White House briefing room.
Snow, ailing with cancer, had said recently he would leave before the end of Bush's presidency. The father of three children, Snow said he needs to make more than his White House salary of $168,000. He could earn far more money on the speechmaking circuit.
The 52-year-old Snow was a conservative pundit and syndicated talk-show host on Fox News Radio before he was named press secretary on April 26, 2006. He is the latest in a string of White House officials to head for the exits.
There's a string of officials heading for the exits because Chief of Staff Josh Bolten made it clear that if White House staff aren't able to make it all the way to the end of Bush's term then they are to exit by Labor Day.

There is one thing a Press Secretary MUST accomplish, above all else: NOT make things worse. Tony stepped in and performed exceptionally well - even better when compared to his predecessor.
Thanks and best wishes to Mr. Snow!

Tony just looks really bad even worst than when he first returned. I think that had more to to with it than the money.

I know! That pesky Democracy was a good enough reason for thousands of Americans to die during the Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, The Civil War, The Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, and The First gulf War, but this tears it!
Iraqis do not deserve freedom - especially not by our hand!

And what kind of idiot can't get by on 170K a year? That's his excuse, he doesn't have the money? And what kind of man, upon finding out he only has 6 months to live, decides to work instead of spending time with his family? How callous. If you knew you were going to die, you'd want to spend more time at work. Makes sense to me. Maybe he doesn't like his family very much.
What a good summer it has been overall.
Rove gone, Gonzo gone, Craig gone, now the Snow man will melt too.

I found this too funny (balloonjuice.com) and had to pass it along
By John Cole
I thought I would say goodbye in a song.
So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear?
You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that
grow around you
So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish
The world's about to be destroyed
There's no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve
Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your
pregnant women
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

Barney, that wasn't written by Cole, only posted by him.
If you can't recognize the source, or the inspiration for the source, you need to get to the bookstore.
But, it's nice to know what the source of your rhetoric is.
From now on, why don't you just link to Cole and save yourself the hassle of twisting his words to look like yours?

Nick's just mad that Tony did a great job.
Pay no attention to the idiot.
It's fun to read the dems all making a big deal out of the resignations that are very common in administrations. Clinton had 4 different spokespersons. That must have been the hardest job ever, to spin for the corruptor in chief Clinton.

WOW! I never knew Snow had his finger on, or even access to, the "military deployment button."
Who'd a thunk it!
NH, go somewhere else to use your talking points scraped from the DKos Kiddies.
And BTW Kevin (if you're listening), add NH to the list that includes freedomFRIED that should get the everlasting heave-ho.

This thread needs to be archived for posterity.
It's a shining example of just what kind of people lefties are to someone who is facing colon cancer.
And they call themselves "compassionate." They have shown by their own actions that they have no true comprehension of the term.

In fairness, some of the commenters did take them to task for their lack of compassion.
