The town of Merrimack, New Hampshire has a rather nice beach on Naticook Lake. Under the terms of its taking control of it from the state, it maintains it and keeps it open to the public.
That's becoming more and more difficult, though, as its popularity is bringing a lot of people to the beach -- including those who say they can't read the rules, because they're posted in English.
So the town looked into posting additional signs, with the rules in Spanish -- and the town's residents said "hell, no!"
I sympathize with the police. It must get pretty annoying, to tell people to put away the booze and keep their children under control and PICK UP YOUR GODDAMNED TRASH, but to hear again and again and again, "no habla Ingles."
But I don't think it's the town's place to cater to those who won't learn the common language at least well enough to obey simple rules of civility. If they decide to take their business elsewhere because Merrimack won't cater to their demands, good riddance.

I wonder if they can understand the word "DEPORTATION"?
The article I read stated that groups of mexicans coming up from MA were drinking alcohol (in excess) and being overtly loud. When has a cop ever needed a sign for that given situation? If they were banging sheep, would we have to post a sign for them to understand that they're not supposed to do it?

If there is ever any sort of "immigration reform" it should include proven fluency in English. If you don't want to learn, at minimum, the spoken language of this country, than you shouldn't be here. I appreciate that Chinese, Japanese and Koreans do not use the roman alphabet, so they need an allowance on that. But I am beyond sick and tired of the degree to which Mexicans and other Latin American nations refuse to speak or read English, and demand special accommodation for their willful ignorance.

If I was caught drinking in a Mexican park where it was posted, in Spanish, that no drinking was allowed and I couldn't read it and was subsequently arrested for it, I wonder how sympathetic some people would be for me. I also wonder how likely it would be for the local Mexican government to decide it would be a good idea to go to the extra expense of putting up new signs in English just for my benefit.
I'm just sayin'...

They don't need a fricken sign to tell them to wipe their ass do they? That trash can the drunk basturd stumbled into should give them a clue. Someone should put up a sign that reads "annual immigration dept party" and you'll see just how fast they can read English.

I wonder how rapidly some of those people who "no habla ingles" would move if the police showed up and planted a sign indicating that the beach is about to be searched for illegal immigrants, and said illegal immigrants would be immediately deported. Said sign would be in English, of course.
You have no idea how disturbing it was to move to Southern California and take the driving test, only to find out that there are two tests - one in Spanish, and one in English. I would point out that all of the street signs in California, while using a preponderance of Spanish names, are written in English.
America may not have a national language (though I wish it would), but it does have a commonly accepted language that is all-but necessary to operate on a day-to-day basis... at least if you are, at all interested in integrating into the American society. However, as is with a growing number of immigrants, illegal or otherwise, from south of the border, they are not in the teeniest, tiniest bit interested in that, and that lack of desire shows about as bright as the sun.
As always, if you desire to see the natural outcome of the liberals' wet dream of "multiculturalism", one only need look at Bosnia-Hertzegovina (sp?) from about fifty years back to now.

The town of Merrimack is very lucky there aren't any reps from al qeda complaining about their callousness because Lynn Stewart is still available to offer her services and no doubt, islamo-facist killers in this nation have already established a communications pipeline with the aclu and the dnc.

No one could speak english so after a half hour of trying to get someone on scene that spoke spanish the deputy announced over the radio that he was taking them all to jail. Suddenly he had 20+ criminals that could speak english. Miracles do happen.
