Tim Blair has compiled a brilliant list of life's little contradictions. Some are specific to Australia, but the concepts still apply. Here is a sampling.
2 The same people who want to restrict cigarette smoking are invariably inclined towards decriminalising marijuana.Read them all. Blair's list is pretty much focused on political issues. There is a whole 'nother set of these for family life. I could probably watch my kids for a day and come up with a complete list of my own.
...
14 The same people who believe the Howard/Bush/Blair governments encourage a climate of fear by exaggerating the threat of terrorism never complain about the climate of fear fostered by Australian of the Year Tim Flannery, who consistently exaggerates the threat of global warming.15 The same people who were offended by George W. Bush meddling in Australian politics are absolutely fine with Al Gore meddling in Australian politics.
16 The same people who thought anti-terror fridge magnets were a pointless tokenistic gesture nevertheless supported Earth Hour, during which they saved the planet by turning off their lights for 60 whole minutes.

Not necessarily. I think cigarette smoking restrictions are wrong and I support decriminalizing drugs.

Well, they're both a bit more alarmist than they need to be, but Tim Blair consistently distorts Flannery's positions, so pot, meet kettle.

Where's the due diligence on behalf of the bloggers of Wizbang.
The RNC is missing at least four years' worth of e-mail from White House senior adviser Karl Rove and not a peep form the right.
I suppose we couldn't call this a double standard right? If Clinton or his advisers had done such a thing this blog would be ALLOVER them. Yet, not a peep.
Not to mention the improper use of political e-mail accounts to conduct official government business. The Presidential Records Act IS a controlling legal authority. Violating it is a Federal crime.
If they've done nothing wrong they have no reason to keep it secret, right? Isn't that what Patriot Act supporters keep saying?
Yet the best Lorie can find to blog about while her party goes down in flames is Australian contradictions?
Your slip is showing.

I enjoyed Blair's list although I didn't get some of the Austrailia specific items.
Still, one has to wonder what it's like to be a leftist and have to constantly ignore the utter hypocracy of almost everything you believe.
No wonder they are so good at and accepting of fabricated news stories.

"The same people who want to restrict cigarette smoking are invariably inclined towards decriminalising marijuana."
That's just stupid. First of all, the restrictions on cigarette smoking being most discussed today are for public places, deciminalising marijuana would most definitely not include being allowed to smoke it in public places. Second, marijuana doesn't have the same ill effects as cigarette smoke.

No. 10 was priceless for this description if not for the whole quote: "scream like a goth in the sun".
I have GOT to remember to use that one at the first opportunity.

Sure, Civil Behavior. Get back to us when you hear from Al "no controlling leagal authority" Gore on this subject.
Why don't you get your own blog and you can talk about it all day long to your heart's content?

Blair isn't pointing out anyone's hypocritical positions though. He's complaining about the hypocricies he sees in the stereotypes in his head.
He says that people who are against smoking bans invariably also favour decriminalising pot. You aren't stupid to believe that or that this is even a contradiction.

31. Australian bloggers who devote half their blog posts to global warming anecdotes and every trivial US personality who comment on the matter who won't even mention the their own PM embracing the issue. Not a peep.
If you don't know who Peter Garrett is that's because the US blogs you read aren't obsessed with tracking the fortunes of a foreign politician who none of your readers give a toss about.
Tim Bliar's daily updates on what Al Gore is doing look just as obsessed to Australians.
