I was moved by this video of Former President Bush breaking down in tears as he spoke about his son Jeb, the governor of Florida.
Update: USAToday has the story:
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Former president George H.W. Bush broke down in tears as he cited his son, Gov. Jeb Bush, as an example of leadership.
Bush was addressing lawmakers, his son's top administrators, and state workers gathered in the House chamber Monday for the last of the governor's leadership forums. He said he was proud of how his son handled losing the 1994 governor's race to popular incumbent Democrat Lawton Chiles, and vaguely referred to dirty tricks in the campaign.
"He didn't whine about it. He didn't complain," the former president said before choking up. As he tried to continue, he let out a sob and put a handkerchief to his face. When he spoke again, his words were broken up by pauses as he tried to regain composure.
"A true measure of a man is how you handle victory and how you handle defeat, so in '94 Floridians chose to rehire the governor. They took note of his worthy opponent, who showed with not only words but with actions what decency he had," Bush said before again sobbing.
After his defeat, Jeb Bush formed a group called Foundation for Florida's Future which promoted education policy. He also helped open a charter school in a poor Miami neighborhood, helped the state Republican Party organize a convention and straw poll to have sway in the 1996 presidential election and lobbied for education and campaign finance reform bills. Bush won the first of his two terms in 1998.
"The moral of the story is to serve with honor and your governor has served with honor," the former president said.
"I'm the emotional one," Bush said later. "I don't enjoy breaking up, but when you talk about somebody you love, when you get older, you do it more."

Time to ship H off to the old folks home. We really don't need the former leader of the free world sinking into a pussified lullaby. Grow a sack or stay the hell off the tellie.

while i am a bush supporter and have great respect for the family, i couldn't help but be reminded of how respect for johnny sack was lost among members of his mob family when he was seen crying at his daughter's wedding. his crying was perceived as a reflection of his diminished manhood. which is exactly how i predict this display by bush senior will be perceived by his enemies.... (see the first post above for an example of what i mean....)

Not really, I would like my presidents and ex-presidents to act......Presidential. We have all seen the shenanigans of perennial Asshats Clinton and Carter. Part of the job requires an elevated sense of stature and bearing. I never voted against a Bush, junior or senior. This particular type of emotional bonding belongs in a private setting among friends and family. So before you all get your panties wadded up, think of what type of behavior you expect and demand of our president.

The great thing about Jeb Bush not winning in '94 is it allowed him to be in office in 2004 and 2005 when the state was hit with 6 major hurricanes (4 in 2004 and 2+ in 2005). The state was ready, emergency plans worked out, and recovery efforts worked well because the state and through state efforts, localities were prepared.
Very likely some of the problems with the Katrina aftermath was the contrast of having a state and localities grossly unprepared. They tried to "wing it", didn't follow their own emergency plans, and suffered the consequences.
Jeb is popular with both sides of the aisle. His graciousness in office is legend. He could have had the Republican nomination for the 2006 Senate race, but stepped aside for Katherine Harris, a sure loser. The Republican party here had promised not to oppose her in 2006 in exchange for her dropping out of the 2004 race. They didn't want her on the ticket then, as it would galvanize the Democrats and possibly cost GW Bush the state and the Presidential election. Jeb lived by his word.
Jeb is not only a great politician, he is great person. I would love to see him run in 2008, but I'm not sure the country is ready for another Bush. If the rest of the country knew him as well as Floridians do, they would elect him President.

You people seem to like the Bushes. Do you really know the Bushes? Do yourselves a favor and read up about them. You will be suprised. Did you know that they are decendents of King Henry the Eigth? Did you know Barbara is decended from President Franklin Pierce? There is much that is not know about this family, and most of it is not good. George H.W. helped to put together Enron. In the 60's GHWB's boat, named after a Communist Mexican maurader, was reflagged and used in part of the Bay of Pigs operation. Strange for an oilman. The Bush image is a mirage, a thin veneer over something ugly below. They are shady people. Do yourselves a favor and consult multiple sources and check it out.
