This morning, we have word that Israel, in full compliance with United Nations Resolution 1701, has pulled the last of its soldiers out of Lebanon, settling the fighting between Israel and Hamas Hezbollah in Lebanon.
At the same time, we have repeated declarations from Hamas Hezbollah that, despite the requirements of that resolution, they will NOT disarm and consider the settlement of the fighting a "victory."
The powers who have stepped up to "enforce" the Resolution have stated that they will not forcibly disarm Hamas Hezbollah.
Nor have the two Israeli soldiers whose kidnapping by Hamas Hezbollah, after invading Israel, been released.
Tell me again how wonderful the United Nations and its mighty "peace-keeping" powers are. I won't be listening, though -- I'm too busy working on a betting pool on the next Hezbollah attack on Israel, and how quickly Israel will be condemned by the UN for its inevitably "disproportionate" response, and not showing "restraint."
Update: Throughout much of the above piece, I said "Hamas" when I meant "Hezbollah." I confused one group of radical Islamic terrorist assholes who want to be seen as part of a legitimate government and kidnapped one Israeli soldier as part of their goal to obliterate Israel with an entirely different group of radical Islamic terrorist assholes who want to be seen as part of a legitimate government and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers as part of their goal to obliterate Israel. I apologize for the confusion, thank those who called me on the error, and invite them to continue to address this posting now that that matter has been clarified.

I can't...it would be a lie; but Lee and his ilk will soon be here to do it.

I'm so sorry for you, dude, but in the Lebanon war, the Israelis engaged Hizbollah, not Hamas. Hamas was at the other end of Israel, in the Gaza Strip.
It was Hizbollah that kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers. Hamas kidnapped one Israeli soldier. And, by the way, at least the CNN link got it correct.
I'm surprised you could get something this wrong.
Maybe you should forget that betting pool and concentrate on getting fundamental facts correct instead.

It's time we all started being more careful about using 'Hamas' when referring to Hezbollah, 'al Qaeda' when the topic is Iraqi Ba'athists, and 'Islamofascists' when talking about all Muslims.
This type of slip-up reveals to educated listeners our complete ignorance of history and the region, and while it doesn't damage our credibility with other nodding heads, party-liners and Instaparrots, it tends to isolate and exclude us from the larger, reality-based dialogue (except as an object of well-deserved ridicule, I mean.)
Failing that, we should at least fess up to our ignorance when it slips out, and avoid digging ourselves in deeper with transparent self-serving excuses like Jay Tea's here. It simply compounds the embarassment.

Hasty,
I have studied this region for years, both in school and out, and I am convinced that the only thing that labels accomplish is to give a little understanding of geography. Most common sense (as opposed to "reality-based) people don't give a rat's rear end about what label applies to what group. They are concerned with how to protect themselves from such vermin. On top of that, Israel has had to deal with ALL of them on their own soil. I for one look forward to the day when they unfetter themselves and wipe out the scum without caring what the "international community" thinks.
Oh, and stop using "we" and "us". "We" don't care to be lumped in with you.

Nice. Way to diagree with someone, especially since you couldn't seem to get right the difference between Hizbollah and Hamas. Especially when the link you cited got it right.
Yes, both Hizbollah and Hamas are murderous Moslem monsters. Yes, the UN is useless.
You need to invest a bit more energy getting your basic facts right, and to invest a bit less in underscoring that adolescent reaction at being criticized.
