Today, President expressed his sadness upon hearing of the death of former Texas Governor Ann Richards:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Thursday he was saddened by the death of one-time political rival and former Texas Gov. Ann Richards and that "Texas has lost one of its great daughters."
Richards, a blunt, silver-haired, motorcycle rider, died on Wednesday at 73 after suffering from esophageal cancer."Ann loved Texas, and Texans loved her. As a public servant she earned respect and admiration," Bush said in a statement. "Ann became a national role model, and her charm, wit, and candor brought a refreshing vitality to public life."
Richards, who was Texas governor from 1991 to 1995, described Bush as "some jerk" during the race for governor that she lost to him in 1994.
She jumped to national prominence at the 1988 Democratic National Conventional for her jibe about Bush's father, then-Vice President George H.W. Bush -- "Poor George, he can't help it ... He was born with a silver foot in his mouth."
White House spokesman Tony Snow did not know whether Bush would attend her funeral.
Governor Richards never seemed to have any public words of kindness or respect for President George W. Bush or former President George H.W. Bush. It says a lot about President Bush's character that he looks past Mrs. Richards' nastiness to express his condolences on her death in such a kind, respectful way. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if President Bush attends her funeral.
Update: A commenter at RightWingSparkle writes of Ann Richards' refusal to bash President Bush or his family while she was a guest on Air America's Morning Sedition talk show. I'm pleased to hear that.

Dear brother Kim,
This is what politics is all about. And I must say Bush is very good at it.
What do you assume Bush would say? "I hated her and I am happy she is dead?" Please do not make such assumptions, we all know as a President he will not say these things even though he feels such things.
Inshallah most people are smart and understand the true meaning of "Bush"

Heard an ABC radio news report earlier today, Ann Compton, I think.
She offered a news report about the statement President Bush issued about Ann Richards. It was actually a very nice report on her part except for the last sentence.
"President Bush did not mention he defeated Richards for governor."
Unlike the dems, President Bush does not turn death and funerals into political events.

Speaking of which, Eneils, care to give me odds on whether or not Richards' funeral will turn into a Wellstone rally?
And what's the over/under on St. Cindy of the Unimpeachable Moral Authority showing up?

cmd,
Got my money on hearing dem politicans bashing President Bush and the Republicans at her funeral, just like the Wellstone memorial and the Coretta King funeral.
And yes, the lovely Ms. Sheehan will probably be there with jeans and something obscene about President Bush on her t-shirt. Another classy event will be presented to us by the dems. Jerry Springer will be proud.

Compton's statement was useless and a bit of a Captain Obvious statement. Of course he's not going to mention it; most people already know it, and it would detract from the positive.

Don't you just hate that about Bush, wade? I mean, not responding to name-calling. How dare he not dignify the insults of his political opponents! And why, exactly, would you like to meet me in a dark alley? Is that a good place to talk? Or would you be the wino slumped against the wall?

1. What "on the money statements" specifically? She has said many things.
2. So "little neo-con pukes" = liberal democrats, then, because as already mentioned:
a) Paul Wellstone's funeral (a democrat) was highly politcally charged (by democrats) and
b) Corella Scott King's funeral included blatenly politcal (and personal attacks) from the likes of Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter...guess what politcal party they belong to?
3) What are you going to do in the dark alley? Remember, liberals are all peace-love and touchy feely, but conservatives carry firearms. You might want to rethink that idea, pahdner.

President Bush's greatness is viewed through the prism and of his sincere regard for Richards.
That "silver boot"was mischaracterized as being in George's mouth -- it was firmly applied to the ass of Texas democrats, and Richards knew this by experience. She was a fun democratic lady and will be sorely missed by sensible democrats who are appaled by the far left antics exemplified by screaming Howard Dena.

If the Democrats and Momma Moonbats handlers were smart they would keep that woman, her girlfriend Medea and all their Pinko friends at least 100 miles away from Gov. Ann's funeral with big chunks of duct tape over their mouths.
You see, the people of Texas will not tolerate any stupid LLL hijinx at Gov. Ann's funeral. Gov. Ann is too well liked by too many people here of all political stripes that any attempt to turn her funeral into a LLL freak show would go over like a big turd in the punch bowl. It would have ramifications both great and small.
