I watched the first hour of The Path to 9/11, but my kids want me to watch HGTV with them to see who won Design Star, so I am taking a break from the movie. It was actually pretty good timing because I was not getting into the superhero treatment Richard Clarke was getting. Sorry, but I have seen too much of the real Richard Clarke to buy that as an accurate depiction. The movie is pretty good so far though. Anyone watching who wants to comment can use this thread.
Update: Michelle Malkin has a post showing the disclaimer that ran at the beginning of the movie.
Update II: Watching the past 30 minutes of the movie (10 - 10:30) what I found most interesting is how many times viewers are reminded that the terrorists hated us years before W took office. There are scenes of Clinton being burned in effigy, being referred to as the Great Satan and having his likeness shot at on a big screen. There are also references from terrorists that when Clinton sent cruise missiles to hit Osama that is when the war began. I wonder if anyone watching will decide that Clinton's missile attacks were to blame for riling the terrorists. They shouldn't, and they won't. They hated us long before that. It is amazing though, how many will buy the line that Bush's action in Iraq is what really made the terrorists mad.

Great observations, Lorie. ... (Below threshold)1. Posted by Falcon | September 10, 2006 11:06 PM | Score: 0 (0 votes cast)
Great observations, Lorie. The point of the film, that is war started long before Bush took office, definitely came through.
But, you know libs, reality is far to painful a concept to ever accept.

The interesting thing to me, given the political warfare over this flick, was that as I watched it I realized that I was applying no political "filter" to what I was seeing and feeling. To me, the fact that Clinton was the occupant of the White House during the period shown was merely a side detail. I can close my eyes and invision all of the same FUBARs (real or dramatized) taking place regard less if it were GHW Bush, Dole, Clinton, or the Pre-9/11 version of W who was the guy that got to ride in Air Force One at the time.

Lorie, that's the same thing that was impressed on me--the reminder that the war on terror (or rather the terrorists' war on us) started long before 9/11. And it was kind of a shock to see Clinton being burned in effigy, and that the terrorists were just as angry with him then as they are with President Bush now. I had forgotten that. I found the show very riveting. (And I taped "Design Star." Just went downstairs and zipped to the end to see who won--not the one I wanted, darn it.)

You shouldn't be surprised...
Just remember that ABC is one of the largest employers of former Clinton administration officials and other assorted Democratic party hacks.

Any portrayal of Richard Clarke as anything other than an incompetent, ladder-climbing lying weasel is pure fiction.

Noone is saying that Iraq made the terrorists hate us. That would be demonstrably stupid as the war in Iraq was AFTER 9/11.
Iraq war opponnents argue that invading and occupying Iraq has:
1. Proved Osama's message correct to his followers (that the US wishes to invade and occupy muslim lands)
2. Created MORE terrorists that hate us for ADDITIONAL reasons which didn't exists pre-Iraq invasion.
No one can honestly argue that we are killing more terrorists than we are creating in Iraq. Furthermore, if it is true that Osama's immediate goal was to get the US caught in a quagmire (Soviets in Afghanistan redux, anyone?), then we have foolishly played into his hands.

I really like the movie. I know it's a "Movie" so I don't get all bent out of shape over it.
If it were a factual. Then we all would be very upset.
