The New York Daily News reports on a plot to flood the Holland Tunnel and flood lower Manhattan. Wasn't that sort of like the plot to the 1996 Sylvester Stallone movie Daylight?
The FBI has uncovered what officials consider a serious plot by jihadists to bomb the Holland Tunnel in hopes of causing a torrent of water to deluge lower Manhattan, the Daily News has learned. The terrorists sought to drown the Financial District as New Orleans was by Hurricane Katrina, sources said. They also wanted to attack subways and other tunnels.
Counterterrorism officials are alarmed by the "lone wolf" terror plot because they allegedly got a pledge of financial and tactical support from Jordanian associates of top terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi before he was killed in Iraq, a counterterrorism source told The News. It's not clear, however, if any cash or assistance was delivered.
...The plotters wanted to detonate a massive amount of explosives inside the Holland Tunnel to blast a hole that would destroy the tunnel, everyone in it, and send a devastating flood shooting through the streets of lower Manhattan.
While the plot may be serious, the the plotters would not have been able to flood lower Manhattan unless they could find a way to suspend the laws of physics.
They'd do better looking for ideas at the Movie-Plot Threat Contest.

This is old, stale news -- leaked now for political purposes.
From the New York Daily News article linked in Kevin's post (emphasis added):
Odd though, that the administration chose to leak it to the New York Daily News instead of the New York Times. LOL - It just makes this ploy even more obvious....
but media-savvy Wizbang! readers are too smart to fall for this Republican PR scam, right?
Cue the fools..

"It might flood the Holland Tunnel, but that's all it's going to flood," said Allan McDuffie, an Army Corps of Engineers expert on New York flood patterns. "It's not going to get any higher than the level of the surrounding water."
And when it comes to flooding cites can you get more expertise than the Corps of Engineers?

I think it's reasonable to demand paper trails, which these stupid things lack, and I think it's a bipartisan issue. Or at least it should be. Respecting democracy is supposed to be important for Repubs and Dems.

Everything that comes out of US media is right wing feed direct from the towers of power.
Nothing that comes out of US media is intended to inform or educate, it's all about PR control.
I notice as is so often the case, that the responses are invariably insults, slanders, ad homs or some other such right wing speciality in attacking the messenger, and ignoring the message.
Lee, my namesake, don't listen to these guys, they're probably being paid just over minimum wage to sit in little cubicles churning out hate mail and disinformation to various obscure websites and forums all over the world.(the Bush administration has ushered in the largest expansion of US gov't ever, and almost all of it comes from "security" hiring, ie Homeland security. They must be doing SOMETHING all day)
Until and unless they can come up with some facts instead of insults, they got nothin' but air, and it really shows in their responses.
Keep up the good fight.
