You certainly shouldn't take actions based on the opinions of others. You should do what (in your judgement) is right.
You probably SHOULD listen to the arguments of others--and either agree or disagree. I think awareness of what others think, and why, is useful. Completely ignoring others, as policy, would be willful ignorance.
