I don't get out much. It usually takes something pretty unusual to get me to travel. And two upcoming events are causing me to haul myself out of stately Tea Manor.
First up, in Concord, they're holding a midnight (well, 12:30) showing of Serenity. Yes, the movie came out almost a year ago, and I saw it three times since then, and of course I own the DVD, but this is a special event. Joss Whedon (creator of Firefly/Serenity, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and writer of Toy Story, among other credits) is a big supporter of Equality Now, and all proceeds from the showings are going to that group. Besides, we Browncoats are not quite ready to give up on the thought of more adventures of our Big Damn Heroes, and this just might help bring them back to some screen somewhere.
And next month is the 28th annual Shore Leave convention outside Baltimore. I went last year, and had a grand time. I've already bought my tickets (show and plane), and am insanely eager to get there.
As a side jaunt, since I'll be in the BWI area, I'm thinking of a day trip into DC on either Thursday or Friday, July 6 or 7. I've already spoken with Kevin and one other blogger, a former guest poster around here about possibly meeting up for lunch or just a chat. (I've also toyed with the notion of visiting the Belly Of The Beast, but I don't think I've had the right shots to safely do so.)
My only regret is that I'll have to leave The Shaggin' Wagon behind...

Hey, my housemates are going to the Serenity shindig down in Concord, too. They told me that is was supporting Equality Now and I kind of winced and thought "Oh Lord, what kind of lefty hootenanny is that?" because they're as left of center as I am right of center. But it turns out that they're actually a pretty good organization.
I, however, am staying home and watching my Venture Bros DVDs for the hundredth time.

You should check out a baseball game while in the Baltimore/DC area. I hated the movie Serenity - although I kept thinking about that Seinfeld episode - where George's father kept screaming SERENITY NOW!!!! - thats how I felt while watching the movie.

I would love to see Serenity on the big screen. I came late to the series and missed it in the theater.
I had a Firefly/Serenity-athon at my house last month, the geek-o-meter was pegged.
Morena Baccarin (Inara)has been on Stargate lately, having her and Claudia Black on one show is almost too much to bear.

I would have liked the opportunity to meet you while you're in the DC area, JT, but unfortunately, I'll also be on vacation while you're here.
Scratch that. Fortunately, I'll be on vacation. Unfortunately, it'll be while you're in the area.
You know what I mean.
