I'm proud of my abilities as a writer, but with that pride comes a sense of self-honesty. There are some things I do quite well, and some not so well.
One place I'm weak is in writing brief pieces, condensing and compressing what I have to say into fewer words. I tend to run and run with them instead, ending up with works that often surpass 1,000 or 1,500 words. I think I've even broken 2,000 on a few occasions.
But while I don't write pithy pieces very often, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate them. It takes a hell of a lot to get your meaning across in very few words.
Which is why nearly every morning, when I drive to work, I take a moment and pay silent tribute to a banner strung over Interstate 93 South just north of Exit 4:
THOUSANDS OF MILES BEHIND YOU ONE MORE TO GO SFC CAMERON

Don't understand what "SFC Cameron" means, but it's sure an impressive statement in efficiency...and obtuseness all at the same time, and thus, remarkable!
