This "indictment" will prove to be the worst disaster the Democrats have ever brought upon themselves. It could well be that what rescues the GOP's current majority from its Harriet Miers-induced troubles will be...Ronnie Earle.

Smiling for two reasons: 1) because he knows the charges are trumped up in this case and he will have the goods on them so bad he'll come out looking like a victim even if he was guilty of something.
2) By smiling for the mugshot he can use it in his campaign for re-election versus a dejected looking mugshot the Dems could use in theirs.

I agree. Everything Mr. Delay is charged with is committed by both partys. I, personally, do not like it, but it is not illegal. What chaps me is that there seems to be no recourse to the abuses of these types of prosecutors when they decide to go after you or anyone with bogus charges.

He's smiling to screw the Dimocrats, who had hoped to make use of the mugshot in next year's congressional race. Looks like a picture from a church directory.

Sun Tzu would be proud. Damn, this picture should scare the pee out of all the Democrats in Texas. They are playing wiffleball and he is playing in the big leagues.
Oh, BTW, he scares me, too. Someone this damn manipulative and power hungry is going to be a problem.
It's a shame the liberals in Texas are so dumb.

Well, if he was "going" to be a problem, I imagine he'd be one by now.
Oh -- he is. For the Democrats.

He's smiling because he, like most Wizbag readers, is a total asshole who has no concept of the notion of appropriate behavior.
We'll see if he's still smiling when he gets ass-fucked in prison. My guess? Yes.

edddie really wanted to reply profanely - so much so that he avoided the ban on his IP address and moved to a new machine.
edddie - In case you didn't get the message, you are banned. Changing addresses will just result in your network administrator (whose last name is Daher) being contacted. I'm sure CSU has a ToS clause in their network usage agreement.
Bye bye edddie...

Gee, edddie, it seems that you're losing confidence in your own baseless speculation over the course of the day.
Maybe by 3:00, you'll be saying something like, "Sure, the case against Delay may be dismissed and Earle forced to resign in shame, but Delay will never get a refund on the money he had to pay to his lawyer, by God!"
Did you happen to notice that, just the other day, the prosecution had to admit that they do not actually have the list of candidates mentioned in the indictment? You know the one -- it's the list on which the prosucution's entire case is based.

Hmmm.
" it's the list on which the prosucution's entire case is based."
I just about fell out of my chair at the office when I read this. I simply cannot believe any court in the entire country would allow a prosecutor to submit a list, as evidence of a crime, when that list isn't actually involved with said crime.
I cannot even begin to imagine what kind of insanity is going on in that office. But I definitely think there's going to be some serious penalties hitting Earle after this is over.

I thought much the same when Clinton had the same lawyer representing Elian Gonzalez and his father at the same time. After they let that slide, I don't really expect much of the legal profession, no offense.
